Review The Mint Lounge - Bromsgrove

Fern Berry
I wouldn’t routinely review takeaways on here however Mint Lounge deserve to be praised for their consistently tasty food, great portion sizes and incredibly quick delivery. We typically order around 8:30 on a weekend and food usually arrives long before the estimated delivery time. Really fresh, full of flavour. We don’t order from anywhere else now.

Me and my partner always visit the mint lounge when we're in Bromsgrove. We usually visit in the week so it's not very busy, which is perfect for us as I know from previous experience it's hard to get a table on a weekend. The food is very nice. A relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff.

Nobody inside. Also the fact they dont sell alcohol. Staff always great as is the food. They do more deliveries than eating in over the last few years which is a shame because it is nice inside.

4 of us went to the Mint Lounge for the first time last night. What a wonderful experience right from walking through the door where we were warmly greeted and shown to a table. Great food at a great price with wonderful service. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Went to the Mint Lounge with my partner for a meal last night, as the premises doesn't hold a alcohol licence I popped to Aldi and picked up a couole of bottles of wine to accompany our meal. We chose poppadoms with pickles, onion bhaji stater and prawn on puree starter, mains mixed tandoori grill and a chicken Jandani and wow the food was hiy, plentiful and so delicious! The only thing we would want changed is the stark decor, as it's very open, plain walls amd a bit dull if I am honest, however the food made up for this. We will come back soon and also try takeaway as we prefer the food to our previous Indian restaurant of choice in Bromsgrove. Thanks you!!

I do love this place! I go as often as I can with family. Unfortunately, haven't been able to due to the pandemic. But I recently got my dad and step mom a table for valentine's Day, which they really enjoyed. Will be looking forward to going again soon!

DISASTER AT THE MINT LOUNGE. Went thier with high expectations as their web sight and reviews were fab! Looking back at them after the event i wonder who actually writes them. Firstly we ordered the fish platter which was very chewy, dry and tasteless and just thrown together. There were no fresh ingredients, just frozen. We then ordered our mains with a keema cheese naan, it came with no keema meat, just a melted cheese square. My bhuna looked nothing like any iv had before, more like a regurgatated curry with a similar taste. . Both dishes were sent back, but were charged for. When my fiance argued this we were told to f off. The staff were rude and unhelpfull, like nothing id seen before.Perhaps we have been spoilt at the rajdoot in droitwich. The mint lounge is similarly priced to the rajdoot but they just just cant back it up in the kitchen. Came home angry and hungry. needless to say will not be going back. Just wish we found this websight first....BE ADVISED AND STAY WELL CLEAR!!!!!!

Girls night out. My three friends and I went along to this Restaurant for a chance to eat and talk in nice surroundings last night. Although we had booked the table there was the inevitable wait to get seated, but finally we were shown to our table. The restaurant is pleasant to look at and we were lucky to get a nice quiet position where we could talk and eat. When the menu came we were amazed at the choices on offer and a couple of us started with mashed potato balls in a mush of greasy fried mushrooms (potato balls were nice)then we had chicken cooked in 'supposed to be' bhuna sauce topped with a milder sauce and rice. I've had bhuna before but it was nothing like this, the meal was virtually inedible, far too sweet with a few pieces of tasteless chicken thrown in, we took a couple of mouthfulls and left it. My friend had a different dish that was far too salty so she left hers too. The popadoms were priced at £1.40 EACH (because of the small pots of dips served with them)basically chopped onions and various coloured yoghurt concoctions) I think the chef took more time over making the plate look pretty than getting his food edible. We felt the food was extremely overpriced and mostly inedible and would never go there again. The waiter didn't question us as for the reason we'd hardly ate any of the meal so we just put it down to experience and will continue going to Adils on the Ladypool Road for a decent curry.

The Mint Lounge experience. I have experienced eating various types of curry now for approximately 12 years, so it is safe to say that I know my Jalfrezi from my Dupiaza and I would describe myself as a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to a good curry. Before venturing to the delight that we believed to be the Mint Lounge we (my colleague Kate and myself) had tried to call and book throughout the day and hadn't managed to get through, we needed to book for a party of 12, so it was pretty important for us to make the booking. However, we hadn't managed to get through to them and took it upon us to take the risk and go there without booking. Upon arrival at the Mint Lounge, we struggled to find the free parking because it was not marked (even though they said it was on their website), hugely disappointed. We had a huge hassle to move cars and get soaked in the rain when they told us where we could park.

The next stage was to enter the restaurant, from the outset it looks like a charming little green curry house and the expectations were high and excitement built for the enjoyment of Naan bread and Bhaji's. The website had advised that we would feel like we had been transported to India once inside, however it felt more like it was a celebration of St. Patrick's day with the amount of green that is plastered over the walls. I had even worn my mint green jumper for the occasion, and this was copied by the gentleman that was later to sit next to me. Highly recommended to dress for the occasion if you do go, it is appreciated by the other guests. The staff were extremely impolite once we were inside. I let the waiter know that we had been trying to contact them to book the buffet option, but he replied by saying that his phones had been switched off and didn't seem to care. I then asked if they could put the buffet on, but he frowned and said it would take up to 45 minutes to do so we were better to take the menu option. Like a true entrepreneur, I asked if we could have the menu at the same price as the buffet, but he noticed that I was a man of many talents and declined my offer and said they'd put the buffet on. Noted; This restaurant does not rise to a haggler.

Our party of 12 was then left standing in the entrance for 15 minutes whilst we waited for them to arrange and organise the buffet and table. This left other guests who were coming in fighting with us to get past and speak to a waiter, one lady copied me and stated her disgust that they hadn't had their phones working, so I was pleased that I wasn't alone with my opinion, it made me feel warm. After 15 minutes of waiting, and just as guest from my party (Katie, Kate, Hannah and Nat) were about to all kick off, the waiter called us upstairs. We walked past a very 'flash' water feature and up into the Mint coloured upstairs area.

There to our happiness (and the only bit at this stage), was a table laid out for 12 hungry people. We were told to sit down, as the buffet wouldn't be ready for another 5 minutes. Not once had a waiter smiled or asked us if we wanted a drink whilst we waited, disappointing. After 5 minutes, we were told to get up and get our starters. To be fair, the selection was quite impressive. Salad, bhaji's and chicken bits were the selection in front of us with a touch of Mint Sauce to match the wall paper, it was met with approval from my group who settled down to enjoy the first course. The starter was impressive, and the option is there for those who want seconds if that is your preference. The waiter then collected our plates, not with much of a smile and let us know the main course was ready. He also brought us drinks over (finally) which cost £3 for a coke?!!?

We then got up to get our main course. There was a choice of 5 mains, 2 different naan bread and the option to return for a bit of the starter if needed. Most had lamb dupiaza and some chicken Tikka Masala, they settled very nicely and weren't that spicy, which meant we all avoided Delhi belly the next morning. The naan bread was acceptable and the rice too. It is noted that this restaurant would not suit a vegetarian, but they would be able to survive on just naan bread and rice.

Then came pudding; the Barfi, so called because it actually makes you want to be sick. It is not recommended to eat this, the taste is horrifying and it only provides humour to the other members of your party.

Overall, before my adventure began to the Mint Lounge I had high expectations. Through reading various reviews and from information on their website, I was expecting to be taken over to Bombay for an experience...instead I felt like I was taken to a St Paddy's day celebration with curry as the choice of food. One thing I would say is that the Mint Lounge is definitely value for money, but it doesn't win any Michelin Stars from me or would I refer to it as 'Flash'. The service is similar to Fawlty Towers, the food needs more work and the soft drinks are priced as if it was a London night club. If you do venture to the Mint Lounge, call them well in advance as they turn their phones off for some unknown reason and expect to be treated like a ghost...however you will get value for your money.
