Wow this place has just excelled my expectations the service was 10/10, the food was absolutely outstanding and just the general atmosphere of the place drags you in, must I say Rachel was the star of the show, from the hosting to the bar she was on the ball. 100% would recommend!!

Love the gate and the staff. This place just gets better each visit. The garden area is just beautiful now. I had sloppy Joe baguette with Cajun chips which were perfectly spiced.and shared some delicious pork belly bites.the quality and portions are spot on.

I really wanted to love this place, the food was really good and a decent price too. The one gripe was the service, it certainly didn't come with a smile, it actually felt like we were hassling them when asking for a drink because the response never felt warming.
No one checked on our food after it was brought out, we were wanting sauces but no one asked us about it so ended up without. When we were told they needed the table back, again the approach felt too serious and sudden, there was no friendliness about the service.
It could have been a 3/5 but there was a lot to like about it and I'm hoping we caught the waiter/waitress on an off-day.

Very nice little gastro pub, bit of a family favourite. On my first visit I had the nicest steak I'd ever had, second time round it wasn't quite so good, unsure if there was a change in chef or quality of the meat, but I'm not here to judge a whole place on a single "acceptable" experience and will continue to return here and try lots of different things from the menu! 😊

A really nice pub in a quiet area. I had the pulled pork burrito and my partner had the beef burger. Both were good but the burger was the clear winner and wasn't too greasy yet being packed with flavour. The only negative were there house fries weren't the best.

Decides to go to the gate after poor service at the swan fairfield. And what an amazing place this is we were welcomed and given a great table at the bar. After looking over thw menu I decided a steak was needed and my wife had gone for chilli. Thinking the portion size would have been not sufficient for both of us I ordered the a portion of chips as well. I was wrong to do so the portions were great and the food Cooked to perfection. Best steak I have had for a long time.
Go and find out yourself how great this place is. You wint be disappointed😄

Visited for Christmas get together with friends recently on Saturday lunchtime 12 adults 10kids and took out the whole conservatory.
The service and food was 100% spot on!!
Great menu, Christmas plus fantastic Tex Mex, really good portions.
The efficiency of service was brilliant, definitely worth more visits.

Thank you for a great 70th birthday meal tonight at the Gate. Twelve of us took over your lovely conservatory and thoroughly enjoyed all the food and drinks. Your staff were extremely efficient, polite and friendly and provided us with excellent service. We'll be back!

Busy bustling place. For a good reason. Great service, sat with drinks within minutes. Our food arrived very quickly. The rump steaks were cut super deep like a fillet tornados , but cooked perfectly...quite skill for that depth of meat... tasty And tender. No room for dessert. Good formula, book ahead, garden area will be great in summer but heaters are there.

A lovely pub with great top notch food and good selection of beers etc.
The owner needs to sort all of the dining tables. Sand and re stain and varnish, they are always sticky and not always clean because the finish has worn away. 4 for the pub, 0 for the tables. A good place should be proud of their tables.

Arrived and managed to get table for 2 without booking. Made the order at the bar. Was successfully upsold cheese on my garlic bread and was happy to have that as it made the garlic bread.
I had the tex mex which was cooked perfectly and for a big eater i didnt leave feeling hungry which inwas thankful for. Wife had the chicken dish which we liked in particular the sauce.
Checkback performed on meal, steak knife brought with food and additional condiments when requested

I have frequented The gate for over 30 years. I remember being enchanted by its unique and individual menu and atmosphere in the late 1908's. My original favorites such as the Steak Creole and Bluey's Curry (where you got a complimentary can of Australian beer included) have long gone, but The Gate has been there for birthdays, promotions, Christmases on so many other occasions. It was our regular 'Go to place' when we wanted great food ant a fair price. Last night we visited to celebrate my 54 birthday On arrival our party of 4 were shoehorned onto a small square table next to a windy fire escape, despite there being several larger tables and alcoves available. We thought that these were reserved but none were used during our sitting. From then the occasion went from bad to worse.
We waited over 15 minutes and then had to flag a a waitress to order drinks. We ordered two different types of white wine but the waitress forgot which was which and wife and daughter had to taste them. The Beer I ordered ran out and I had to wait nearly 15 minutes for them to change the barrel. Even then I had to remind the staff I was waiting and the beer came after my starters had arrived. My wife and daughters starter of pulled pork taco's left a lot to be desired. The pork was dry and luke warm. Red chilies have always been part of Gate cuisine but the plate was infested with large amounts to the determent of other ingredients. The Main courses were no better. My wife ordered the steak pie. The crust was under cooked and half raw, the pie filling was dry and almost grey looking with little gravy and you could not identify individual pieces of meat. My tex mex came with a huge (and I mean huge) knob of extremely pungent garlic butter which encroached on the salad garnish and the steak. I like garlic but this was inedible. The Chilli with the steak was also heavy with the garlic and inedible (nothing like the dish I have had many times). My daughters Cajun steak was the worst. The Gate prided itself on the fact that they produced a cajun steak the correct way. Coated in spices, seared in butter, served rare because if you over cooked it the spices go bitter. This abomination was an ordinary steak served in some type of cajun gravy which was so bitter it made me wretch. Other things compounded the evening .... The chips were half cooked and cold in the middle and had to be sent back....The steaks weren't that big and despite ordering Ribeyes, rumps and fillets, they all looked and tasted the same .... after eating what we could we left and after making representations, the staff took the drinks off the bill.This wasn't the end of the matter. both my wife and I suffered an uncomfortable night with indigestion from the food, something that has never happened in the 30 years of previous visits. Sad to say farewell The Gate you were brilliant but you have lost your magic ....

Went for a meal as a group of 7 for my boyfriend's birthday. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely visit again.
A bit of a random (but valid) point - the menu was pretty hard to read and a little confusing as there was a lot going on - something to consider perhaps?

3rd visit here today food has on two occasions been beautiful but today was very disappointed, ordered a child's meal of sausage and chips and when it arrived I cut the sausage up for my grandson and noticed it was very pink and uncooked in the centre, had to take it back to the kitchen myself as only 2 staff serving, girls serving were very polite and took the meal back for me and changed to chicken nuggets instead, however when we came to pay for our meals at the bar from who I think was the lady in charge, she was a bit abrupt when my daughter questioned what we had been charged for and answered her saying you changed uncooked sausage for nuggets however was still charged and no apology from her, a bit unfriendly. As I have mention before on previous visits couldn't fault The Gate but today felt a bit too busy to care about their customers.

Celebrating my birthday with a meal with family at The Gate and was not disappointed. The meal was amazing. Not had Tex Mex food before but will definitely going back for more.
Although very busy food was served quickly. Staff were very friendly.
