I love this place. The food is excellent. The service is fantastic and, in my opinion, good value for money. Real flavour of the Caribbean. Attentively waited upon and beautiful flavours to boot. We. Had a fantastic view over the harbour and nothing was too much trouble.

Love love love Vernas! Food is always fantastic never disappointed! Relaxed atmosphere great cocktails and views of Brixham harbour. Hosts are always super friendly. Recently had a 30th birthday meal here too, everything went really smoothly accommodating our balloons cake and 20 guests. Would highly recommend ! Thanks Verna and John !!

Loved this place. Food is amazing and the portions are very generous; so ensure you got there hungry. They do a large selection of cocktails and some awesome rums too. Family and dog friendly. These are upstairs above another shop.

This is one of the hidden gems in Torquay! I's rare to find a well run family business but this one exceeded our expectations on a number of fronts. Firstly the young daughter greeted us with a warm friendly smile and we were seated promptly. The father was also very polite and welcoming and brought us out some delicious complimentary Pholourie Verna’s popular Apple & Garlic Trini dumplings. The food was amazing and fresh and came out promptly. We had the Chicken curry Rotti, coconut rice and peas, salad, Potato and Chick pea Rotti and Fried Plantain. All of which were to die for! My only gripe is that I cannot manage dessert (my own fault)! Although we didn't get to meet Verna we have to say her cooking was magnificent and you can tell from the presentation and taste of the food that she is passionate about cooking her customers high quality and great tasting food! I would also like to add that all the staff there were very welcoming with our young 5 month old baby girl, who occasionally screamed with glee. And last but not least, the restaurant also offers a lovely view of the harbour. Too bad they are planning on retiring soon, so get there before they do!

We had an amazing meal here with the best table in the house, the window table looking out over the harbour. Complimentary apple and garlic dumplings for the table, big juicy spiced prawns and paratha to start, then Trinidad spicy chicken washed down with local lager. Attentive service from John. Honestly the best Trinidad meal I have had.

We were a hen party of 4 going out for a civilised meal. Absolutely fantastic service, we arrived and the lovely gentleman server even moved a table for us so we could sit with a sea view, totally unprompted! We were offered a delicious complementary free starter while waiting and the cocktails were delicious. The food arrived promptly and the spicy prawns were wonderfully fragrant, not insanely spicy but a pleasant amount of heat and the jerk chicken with rice and peas was delicious, authentic and a good portion size. The chef and server both visited our table to check everything was ok with our meal and we couldn’t have been happier with the quality of the food, the price and level of service we received. Thanks for making a memorable evening. Also worthy of note, the restaurant has artwork, beautiful handcrafted jewellery and even costumes for sale. Worth bringing extra pocket money and bringing some of the magic home for the memories!

First time eating at a Caribbean restaurant and it won't be the last. The food was spicy (not hot) and full of flavour. We chose different things off the menu and tried each others, agreeing that we liked the all the dishes. There is a wide selection of cocktails to help things along, so we did! Nice owners and I'd recommend a visit.

We booked quite last minute as it was.my wife's birthday and everything else seemed booked. I am glad they were because we had a wonderful evening here. We are a lover of Caribbean food and my wife has been a chef so we can be fussy. No problems the food was wonderful and for once a good selection for vegetarians / vegans. Owner and all the staff were attentive and helpful. Portions were plentiful and arrived timely with no rush. But the food was a stand out star. So tasty. Wonderful. Oh, and a lovely view into the harbour.

Fantastic place. Service was superb. We had rum Cocktails and they were ace very strong and tasty. FOOD... the best chicken skewers ever. I had Goat curry, very lean and tender. Tina had Jerk chicken which she loved. Honestly one of the highlights of our Brixham break. I'll be back.

I’m no stranger to Caribbean food and have to say I was not disappointed with Verna’s. We ordered in advance for collection and everything was ready on time and lovey and hot. The portion sizes were generous, enough for leftovers the next day ☺️. Verna came out of the kitchen to say hi which was lovely. Our fiends who were are holidaying with we’re trying Caribbean food for the first time loved it. The jerk chicken was succulent and the curry goat was tender and flavoursome. And the ribs! Amazing. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely! Yesterday we ordered a takeaway from them but were in a bit of a rush and they were nice enough to finish making our food ten minutes early. Additionally, the food was so flavoursome! They also had a lot of vegan/vegetarian options for anyone curious. Will definitely order again.

What can I say about the pepper shack? If you want real Trinidadian food then this is the place. We had the San Fernando Spice Prawns and Panko Prawns Verna's Curried Goat Spiced Rum Panacotta Banoffee Pie. If you are brave enough ask to try Verna's hot pepper sauce. We ended up buying 2 jars to take back home. You must try the Cocktails Brixham Painkiller 3 types of rum are in it. And Planters punch Thank you Verna and John for a lovely evening. P.s the views over the harbour are wonderful

Takaway for a family of 4. The food was absolutely fantastic, we have a vegan memeber of the family and it's so difficult to find a takeaway that caters for us all. This one however literally knocked out socks off. So tastey and the portion sizes were huge. Every single one of us were positively bursting at the seams because it was so good we couldn't stop eating👍 if your into your Caribbean food then this is the place for you. Definitely 5 stars.

Absolutely amazing food and brilliant range from veggie/vegan to sea food and jerk style meats. Although the wait for the meal was a little long (which is understandable because of their small group of family staff) it was WELL worth the wait. All of the staff are amazingly lovely and friendly and the atmosphere was perfectly set in the top floor of what used to be a home - Transformed into an exquisite restaurant. If you enjoy Trinidadian or Jamaican cuisine. This is the place to come if you're near by of even have to travel. It is 100% worth it. I would definitely recommend The Pepper Shack.

I can’t recommend enough. The food here is absolutely delicious! We recently hosted a hen party here and every single one of us were licking our plates at the end. The staff were friendly and professional and so accommodating. As for the view, go on up and see for yourself! And order something yummy while you’re there. The locals rave about this place and for very good reason! Top notch!

Another fabulous takeaway, with generous sized portions. Always return for Verna's curry goat and roti. Her rice and peas and coleslaw are good too. Thank you from a 'repeat offender'.

This is a great little restaurant overlooking the harbour. The staff are friendly and the vibe definitely brings out the Caribbean sunshine. They have 2 pages of cocktails including a Brixham painkiller which was a great spin on the painkillers from the BVI. Food was excellent, I had the mutton and rice while my wife had the prawn roti, both of which had amazing flavour and were well cooked. All in all a great experience and something a bit different in Brixham.
