Heavenly supper on a cold, rainy day. Loved the beef dripping butter, the homemade baba ganoush, the Torbay sole. Bliss. Lovely staff, happy room, waiter with a sense of humour. Reading the review from 14 Jan with dismay. Our experience couldn't have been more different. The staff were warm, funny, welcoming. Worth the forty minute drive. Thank you so much.

Finally made it to The Pointer following recommendations. Friendly, stylish and all round tasty looking. Contemporary upcycled classic furnishings and a lovely layout. I ate in the bar and was given a bespoke vegan menu - a wonderful starter farm fresh from The Pointer smallholding featuring delicious vegetables and salads including charred radish and a pea puree. Next up baked squash with a moist, savoury bulgar wheat and walnut centre - and perfectly steamed seasonal greens. Pud - a poached pear with a light as you like pear sorbet and nutty sugar crisps. This feels like a fun pub with good management, a friendly open kitchen who were up for a chat before service began about my food choices. Will love to return soon and for now I thank them for accommodating me, creating and printing out my own vegan menu and for the warm welcome extended to me and my dog, who was welcome in the bar dining area. There's a great looking dining room and garden courtyard too so a good place for social dining, groups and events. Thank you K

Went Friday evening, this pub has a good atmosphere very busy, make sure you book . Third time always good food, new head chef settling in nicely service is good, would only suggest allocating tables to staff to give continuity to customers. Would recommend to all even suggested to Raymound, he gives it a try.

Excellent as always. Very friendly welcoming staff, great bar selection and such a chilled relaxed atmosphere. Have also eaten here several times and the food is always the finest quality made with the freshest ingredients most of which is home grown locally on The Pointers own farm. If you go during the day be sure to pop next door and see Jon in the adjoining butchers, highest quality meat at very reasonable prices.

As a country girl at heart my ideal Sunday is spent mooching round the countryside in wellies, dog(s) in tow, working up an appetite for a hearty Sunday roast in a beautiful village pub. And that's exactly what I spent the Sunday after I got back from Japan doing (blog posts on Japan coming next week btw). I'd been sent the press release for a pub called The Pointer, in Brill near Oxford, by a PR I work with, accompanied by her “favourite pig picture ever” and an invite to spend the morning on the farm that produces most of the fruit, vegetables and meat used at The Pointer, where I would then have lunch. Polly and I jumped on the 3o minute train from Marylebone to Thane and Haddenham Parkway, where we were greeted by Fiona, who along with her husband David, owns and runs the farm, pub and butchers in the village, as well as running a weekly market in Brill where local producers can sell their wares. She whizzed us straight to their farm (which they've grown from what was essentially an extended five acre garden when they bought it, to 150 acres) where we donned some wellies for our guided tour of the land and animals. I’m a massive believer in eating good quality meat (and veg) and it was so refreshing to see how well looked after all their animals were. Fiona and David are absolutely committed to growing chemical free food and rearing animals to the highest welfare standard. They breed cows, sheep, chickens and pigs on the farm that are reared on natural feed and live full, happy, free lives. Some of the animals are bred as show animals and have won many prizes, and others are bred for meat. We saw their Highland cows, Longhorns, Tamworth Kune Kune cross 10 days old piglets, Indian runner ducks, Middle White pigs, Hampshire Down sheep and lambs, a couple of horses and their bee hives!

There are some places which just have that star quality and there are others which unfortunately think they have. Sadly it’s the simple truth and with so many restaurants around at the moment, the market has become awash with fine food – or at least food which looks and thinks its good – but doesn’t deliver on flavour. The style over substance experience has happened to me so much recently and finding a meal in the UK within around an hours reach from London has been deceptively difficult this year – until now that is.

A couple of years ago I ate at what turned out to be my favourite restaurant of that year, The Pig. The food was great, but what I loved most was their dedication to sourcing ingredients within a 25-mile radius. The result of which was super fresh and very seasonal food. Since then a few other places have embraced this approach, but taking it to the next level is The Pointer.

Small but perfectly presented, the shop displayed a small selection of meats, along with fresh bread, pork scratchings and bottles of their locally brewed 'Pointer Pint'. Their brew isn't the only local link, The Pointer do need to be praised for their belief in using as much local produce as possible: When we say

Went here for a special birthday dinner the staff were lovely and inviting. Dinner was really nice and well presented. Both myself and someone with the same pudding choice were both a little disappointed with it but think that was more personal preference. Really nice atmosphere. Parking is a little difficult when busy, however I manged to park down the road okay.

This is one of the nicest places I have ever stayed! Travelling with work I am often travelling alone - the team here were so friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious ! Rooms are quaint and have everything you need - comfy bed and room was spacious. Breakfast did not disappoint either. The village itself is beautiful - looking forward to returning !

The Pointer is amazing! The food is delicious, the portions are generous, the service was just brilliant - Miguel offered us lots of advice on the menu and also had a laugh and a joke with us which I love. My parents had just got married the evening before and stayed in one of the rooms at the Pointer (they said that was incredible too) and Miguel gave them a complimentary glass of champagne each. It was busy but that didn't impact service, it just created a lovely atmosphere. I can't wait to visit again and bring new friends and family!

A lovely evening with friends. Service excellent and no delay in being served. The starters were superb, chicken livers and prawns simply brilliant. Main courses of chicken and fish pie were plentiful and pipping hot, such a pleasant change . Overall could not fault the quality or service. Thank you we will be back !

Set in the hart of Brill, The Pointer offers a wide range of quality wines that pair beautifully with the menu. Oliver the host greeted us at the bar and suggested a local gin, that we very much enjoyed with his recommendation of mediterranean tonic water. He led us through to our table in the dining room, lovley decor and cosy! Food is if a high standard and the on-site butcher provides amazing cuts of meat. We enjoyed the Haunch of Venison, the option of a Carafe made the wine very affordable. The staff were attentive but not pushy, they were busy but not stressed, nor were they running around, everything seemed well managed. The hotel room was fresh, clean and comfortable with a hearty breakfast being served in the pub the following morning. Caitlin, Mandy the managers were amazing. Bartender Ailisn and waiter Jacob were both fabulous. Definitely returning!

Called in for the first time since COVID restrictions for a quick pint on the way to a curry in Long Crendon...beer was good, barmaid was polite...customers made for a good atmosphere - the food seen looked tasty and plentiful but I can't comment on taste or quality on this visit experience. The location only loses a star because this is the second pub in Brill and as The Pheasant gets 5* in part because of its impressive location with views across the windmill including incredible sunsets it would be an injustice to give them equal billing

Whilst I enjoyed the meal I ordered, some at our table missed out on their preference. An out of character busy night apparently, so they were un-prepared and under staffed. Waited quite some time for our meals. This English way of adding 10% gratuity - unless asked not to, is something to be aware of. As when we get to the time of payment, we've forgotten all about that. I prefer to offer tips as and when I feel it warranted. That's just me. Would return to give them another go. Food was tasty.

Met here today for my dad's 90th birthday and want disappointed. Really lovely stylish pub with a really nice, unpretentious menu. I had chicken livers too start then a burger cooked with bone marrow, which made it super tasty. Definitely recommended

The wife and I have stayed here a couple of times in recent years and loved it. A beautiful pub restaurant in a quaint little village. Waddesdon Manor and Bicester Village not far away.
