Midweek lunchtime isn't a fair reflection on the weekend evenings as they're rarely the same. As a first time visitor, it's a nice casual space to fit a dozen or so inside. Floor to ceiling windows mean plenty of light in the airy space. The small outside area adds more tables and in nice weather the open patio would be ideal.
Initially disappointed with the presentation and portion size but actually, having finished what was an unplanned casual lunch, realised that they were right and I wasn't. I'm not sure what makes the difference between an African and say, an Indian curry, but this was very tasty, and packed with flavour. Lots of chicken, not too much sauce, and nice and spicy, just right for a curry rice bowl or as I did, over a base of French fries as my choice of starch base.
I'd recommend the medium level of heat, which I enjoyed but there wasn't a noticeable difference between the mild and medium, my companion and another diner both thought the mild was a bit spiky, and I agreed but a nice dollop of the branded chutney did just the right job.
All in all, it's great for a quick lunch and maybe a nice spot for an early evening beer. Reminded me of the relaxed vibe from an old Backpackers hostel presented in a professional and modern glass walled eatery.
Cool, calm and worth your time to visit. Will be back to try the other menu items, as I'm sure, will you.
Had a lovely lunch and absolutely enjoyed the food. Tasty and hot when delivered at table. Prawns was my favourite amd Pork belly was put off this world. A truly delicious and memorable lunch. The smell inside is so inviting, you just want to eat everything on menu, can recommend the curry's 100%. Well done to owner and staff. Support them, and A definite to go back to restaurant.
These guys totally nail the big flavour accessible prices brief in my book. Was so happy to come and try the South African Durban streetfood and the all-famous pumpkin fritters (totally worth the hype). They had two vegan curries - one sweet potato based the other (my fave) was puffed tofu mushroom and spinach and it was SO GOOD. Add to that the buttery soft fresh roti and banging Mrs Balls hot chutney and the flavours were 🔥. You can choose to have it with rice chips or bunny chow style in literally a loaf of bread 🍞!
You can choose your heat level and I was glad we went wimpy with mild as it was just right. I love how you can mix and match and add on to your hearts content plus a big bowl of curry is only £9 😱. But trust me maybe order about 5 Roti as you’ll love them. And definitely get extra pumpkin fritters as dessert or their palate cleansing mango sorbet.
Really nice vibe, awesome chilled service with an order at the till approach which I’m always fine with. Plus they had great music and do live music nights too.
If you’ve never found it it’s opposite the Sainsburys behind the station. And is definitely worth a visit next time you need a big flavour feast or fancy discovering some of Durban’s classics
