Reviews Agra Tandoori

Having always been a lover of a damn good Ruby, imagine my surprise to discover this little gem nestled up in Fiveways not two minutes from my front door. Proclaiming itself to be Undoubtedly the Best Indian Take Away in Brighton & Hove, I couldn't possibly let it get away with a claim like that without putting it to the test, could I? And you know what? They may well be right... Having been steadily working my way through the Agra's menu since September, I haven't yet found a bad dish. Their curries are tasty without being overwhelmingly spicy and unlike a lot of curry houses, their meals aren't swimming in fat. But do they pass the ultimate test that of the non-soggy onion bhaji? Of course they do. I even order double so I can eat them to next day. Lush. The only downside (if you live anywhere other than right on top of it, like me) is that it doesn't deliver. And I must admit, it's for that reason that on a cold, rainy night we have gone elsewhere for our Friday night curry fix to save ourselves from changing out of our pyjamas and donning waterproof jackets to walk the five minutes there and back again. But when the weather is fair enough for us to shake off our laziness and venture out to collect our order, we've never had to wait more than half an hour, even after 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. Their prices aren't bad either a fair few dishes come with rice included in the price at no extra cost compared with other places, which saves a few pennies on side orders. Having been unable, thus far, to sample every curry house in all of Brighton & Hove I can't comment definitively, but as far as a good Ruby goes this is definitely one of the best you'll find.

Agra probably has to go down as one of the better Indian takeaway's in Brighton. All of the food is freshly made on the day, and I think you can taste that in the food. I have yet to meet anybody with a bad word to say about Agra (that even includes vegetarians). I personally have only positive things to say about everything i've eaten here. I normally order the chicken passanda and the lamb tikka, both of which are as good as i've had anywhere else. I'd definitely recommend Agra if you're looking for a new curry house.

Agra Tandoori is only take-away... and this is also one of my only criticisms, although it does lose it a whole star rating! This is because it's so bloody frustrating that they don't deliver... The food at Agra is worth going out of the way for: it is really something special. Their menu is absolutely massive, with loads of different dishes available for between £5 and £10 (extremely fair, I'd say): I've been here with vegetarians and, ehm, normal eaters (un-PC?), and none of us have gone away wanting. Apart from the selection and the price, the actual quality of the food is surprisingly good for takeaway, with sauces that taste unique enough not to have come from the same vat (we've all been to places like that), and plenty of starters that don't taste like they've all been dunked in the same deep fat fryer. It's just so much better than your average take-away: you'd almost expect it to be a sitdown meal. However, this is the biggest problem that Agra has: it is just a takeaway. If you live anywhere more than 5-10 minutes away, it's just not worth going out to Agra: anything more than that, and the food's cold by the time you get home! As well as that, they don't deliver, almost adding insult to injury... There's no way to get at this excellent food, unless you're a driver, full of cash for cabs, or live very close by... rubbish. If you live in the area, why aren't you eating there yet? If you don't, this one will have passed you right by... I'm still sulking, and it's been 4 years since my friend took me there... Still sulking.

Agra only does take-away Indian food and is based up in Fiveways so if you don't live nearby...I apologise for the frustration this review may cause! Agra has a quote on their window that says something along the lines of 'Brighton's best curry'- it doesn't seem particularly modest but in my opinion the claim is justified. Agra has stayed the distance for us amongst several delivery places- we now always choose Agra over another place despite having to walk and get it. We get some exercise and the food is much much better! My favorite items on the menu- I'm a vegetarian and boyfriend is carnivore so the favorites are from both of us- the lamb tikka xacuti, this curry has such an amazing flavor, unusual and moreish- always go for the tikka meat, it's much more tender. The ceylon is also good. The madras is suitably spicy and fresh, not too much spice to take the flavor away though. I love the peas paneer and the sag paneer- they make their paneer fresh and you can taste it. The naans are soft and delicious, the rice is cooked perfectly and the onion bhajis...oh, my god, the onion bhajis... I could eat a whole meal of these scrumptious fried balls of onion and spices- the best I have ever tasted! The waiting area has stacks of new magazines and a Tv to while away time although I have never waited more than 15 minutes even on a busy Friday night. The guy who serves us is really friendly and the prices are very reasonable for the usual generous curry portions.

We have been getting take away from here for over fifteen years and it has always been first class. I know people who (even though they don't deliver) order from there from all over Brighton (and further). They have all the classic dishes and lots of special ones too. Try the Goan dishes - Xacuti is my favourite - a tangy, slightly spicy curry. And the prices are very good too and they have very friendly staff. A must!

First class Indian takeaway. I used to live round the corner from these guys and ordered, in average once a week, from them and I don't remember being disappointed once.

This is a excellent Indian restaurant the staff are friendly, the service efficient and the food delicious. The food is good value for money and the menu is vast. The only downside is that they don't deliver (its collection only) and there is no where to dine in. They truly are the best Indian in Brighton so they can afford to not deliver. They are situated in an area of Brighton called fiveways which is up Ditchling Road a bit of trek from town if you're not driving but a great local Indian if you live closeby.

So good I bothered to sign up to sing their praises. They claim to be the best Indian takeaway in Brighton & Hove, can't really comment as they are the first I tried but doubt I'll ever feel the need to try another. Would give 6 stars if I could.

We ordered a takeaway for my daughters 17th birthday as a treat. The person who took the order on the phone was so polite and helpful, the food arrived in time and I can honestly say that it was the best Indian food I've ever tasted! I especially loved the sag Pannier, it was so light and not swimming in oil, and I loved the coconut rice as it contains slices of coconut. My chicken Cylon (vindaloo hot) was so tasty. All the food was so tasty and beautifully presented. I wish we could afford to do this more often, but when we can afford another special treat, we will definitely be back and will tell our friends. Thanks for making our night so special!

Moved away from the area 5 years ago, came back last night and got a curry and it was just as amazing as I remember. Chicken quality is the best honestly, other places im worried about gross chicken but the breast they use is perfect, bit more expensive but worth. Absolutely delicious. Chicken Phall is just mind blowingly tasty and hot. Leaves me giddy. Maybe worth the journey in future! Far better than our normal local

Buy the Thali. Absolutely spot on! Not greasy and has a range of great tasting dishes which are way above your average takeaway. No delivery is a drag for a takeaway but it stands head and shoulders above everyone else. I suppose it means they can spend the money on good ingredients which definitely shows

We read the amazing reviews and was really excited to order from here for the first time. The food was delivered within the 45min slot they gave me, and it tasted phenomenal. We had chicken Kormas with rice, cheesy naan, poppadoms and mango chutney. We will definitely order from here again

This really is the best curry house we have ever been to. The food is always full of flavour and we especially love the side dishes they offer. Definitely choose collecting at Agra rather than getting any other takeaway delivery.
