The best fish and chips I have ever had! We ate in the restaurant part, which serves alcohol, in a group of 7. The service was extremely good, but the food was incredible. Can't rate it highly enough.
Winkies has the absolute best fish and chips I’ve ever had! The fish and chips isn’t greasy, the staff are lovely and has a great vibe.
My wife and I always go back to winkies everytime we visit the UK. Bonus tip: make sure you get the curry sauce.

Excellent traditional fish and chip shop take-away, with adjoining dining room. All cooked fresh to order, so everything is piping hot, and only about 10 minutes wait. Large choice of options (including unusual items such as veggie Quorn burger and spicy bean burger) and all at great value prices - with generous size portions. Nice, friendly, helpful staff, too. Will definitely be back next time in Brightlingsea. Really cannot beat Winkies!

Very nice chippy. The staff are friendly and courteous; Sophie in particular was very helpful on my visit. The chips were light and fluffy and there are plenty of vegan options too, including a Pukka "chicken" pie which I had and was delicious, vegan sausages and vegan nuggets. Would definitely recommend.

Went to Winkies with friends for the first time. Welcoming staff in their small but comfortable restaurant. Ordered a medium size cod and chips as recommended because the large is so big. They were right. The medium was large. The fish was excellent. Nice and crispy batter with lovely white tasty fish. The chips were crisp on the outside and soft inner. Perfect. I wasn't left bloated. The best fish and chips I've ever had. One down side is the parking. Shall return soon.
Visiting Brightlingsea for the first time and after reading the reviews we headed to Winkies and we were so glad we did. We both chose medium cod and chips and the portions are plenty. The fish was the best we have tasted in a long time. So fresh and flakey. The batter is crispy throughout. No soggy bits on the bottom. The staff were friendly hard working and welcoming.
We then chose a dessert each, a knicker bocker glory and a toffee supreme. Greedy I know but it had to be done when we saw them, they were amazing. Coming from near Cambridge it takes about an hour and a half to get there but we would definitely do the trip again just to dine in Winkies. The best experience ever. We would definitely recommend visiting this place 😀

Must say.. Went Crabbing with the kids yesterday and fancied some chips before setting off home and they were without doubt the best Chips I've ever had!
Crispy in the outside fluffy on the inside and not greasy at all!
Even the Sausage in batter was excellent!
Will definitely be going back next time!
Absolutely brilliant fresh fish and chunky but crispy chips - just how I like them. Best all round fish and chips. I've had for a long time. My review is for takeaway, but they also have a sit-down restaurant section.
We have used winkies for many years and have never been disappointed. Great choice, lovely staff. We often eat in their small restaurant as we feel it's even better fresh on your plate.

Excellent. Retro-style decor. Excellent service. Lovely crispy chips (perfect). 2 of us had small cod and were pleased we didn't order medium or large as it was a good size for us. Definitely recommend.
The fish served here is thick really white and flaky beautiful Cod. Their chips are chunky and cooked to perfection.
The waitress was very attentive and polite.
The prices are fair. Will totally recomend that you visit and try their food.
