Excellent authentic Indian food, all freshly prepared to order and just delicious! Extensive menu, not just the run of the mill choices. I especially liked how different dishes were described with a concise personal back story. Really got the feeling of it being a family run business. The service was top notch, friendly, perceptive, attentive and down to earth. Very well looked after and catered for, will definitely be back.
Amazing food and fantastic service. Definitely recommend paying this place a visit.
Our new favourite Indian! Tabby and his father were the loveliest hosts and I even left with lunch for the next day and homemade tablet. The food was amazing! Definitely recommend it! Xx
We went with family from Oz in Jan, couldnt have asked for better service, a fantastic experience...food was delicious and my hubby who doesnt normally like Indian food is now converted! Will deffo be back!!
Meal was fantastic again last night - a great portion size so I finished the left overs for breakfast!
Excellent meal and fab service on Friday night. Thank you
Great food every time from a great family.
This was an absolutely outstanding dining experience. The owner waited on us personally. He was very kind and friendly and shared with us a bit of the history of the restaurant, which was started by his grandfather, and passed down to his father and then to him. He asked us about our flavor preferences and then recommended dishes based on the answers we gave. All were absolutely delicious.
The atmosphere and ambiance were elegant and the restaurant was very clean.
Unfortunately there isn't parking on premesis, but do not give up! There is community parking just a half a block down the street. The short walk is completely worth it.
Our only regret is that, as we were visiting from afar, we will not be able to give this place more of our business. But we highly recommend that you do. You will not be sorry!
This is a fantastic traditional family-run restaurant.
As soon as you walk through the door you're given a friendly welcome and shown to your table. It is buzzing with warmth and they go out of their way to make you feel at home and welcome.
Old or new to the restaurant, You are going to feel right at home and will be treated like you are an old friend.
The cooking and selection of meals on the menu are varied, cooked in a more traditional family method. Rather than the standard supermarket-style meal, that tastes and looks the same no matter where you are dining, these are individually cooked and prepared for you. The dishes are unique and delicious. A true taste sensation. I've travelled and to be honest this is the best tasting food I have tasted of its style on all the continents.
The staff are super friendly and helpful they will recommend and advise. There will be no "you'll need three rice" to boost the taking advice here. On my very first visit ordering for two, I was advised "Don't worry you'll only need the one portion sir" and what a portion.
I mentioned the food was fantastic, but they don't shy away from filling your plate.
Friendly fast and with the added benefits of a Delicious and varied menu.
There is parking, small but I've never had a problem if there are a lot of cars then there is a very large car park in the village less than a 5-minute walk.
If you're in the area or if you have to travel a distance. Honestly, this is well worth the trip.
Go and enjoy 10-star food and service. You'll walk out feeling you've been going there for years and with a smile on your face.
Myself and my wife went to shafiqs restaurant for our 8 year wedding anniversary. we were greeted at the door by shafiq and his son who made us feel very welcome. during our dining at the restaurant we had an absolute lovely starter followed by an excellent main however what made the experience so great was the customer service we expected, both Shafiq and his son we absolute amazing and could not do any more for myself and my wife. this is 1 of the best restaurants I have had the pleasure in dining in for a special occasion and it was truly amazing. would definitely recommend this restaurant to family and friends and we will most certainly be back.

My husband and I visited here for the first time for our wedding anniversary. We were welcomed straight away by a very nice guy, who showed us to our table and chatted for a while. He made our visit perfect, and nothing was too much to ask! I have IBS, so I can't have fresh cream. This was no problem, though, as he did a special dish, which consisted of my favourite dishes! Wouod highly recommend coming here. He even said he could get a staff member to pick us up and drop us off if we wanted to drop our car at our airbnb so we could drink alcohol! What a legend!
We really enjoyed a fun evening! Super friendly staff, delicious food and drinks. The coeliac in our group was thrilled to discover that most menu items are naturally gluten free. What a treat!
Best curry around! Bags of flavour, really good meat and really tasty rice. Fantastic, friendly service too.
Excellent service and food. G Free available.
Expert advice on all dishes with good recomendations. Highly Recommended.
Truly one of the nicest dining experiences I've had. Great attentive and friendly service. I love a vindaloo but it wasn't on the menu so they cooked one especially. Full of flavour and as hot as I like it. The decor is very nice and they clearly spend money on the upkeep. If thoroughly recommend.
An Indian restaurant with a touch of class, nice to have linen napkins and table cloth. Nice relaxed atmosphere and good food with Shafiq on hand to advise on the menu and ensure all is well. Everything we ordered was well cooked and beautifully presented by friendly and polite staff. Prices reasonable for this quality of food.
Been going since 1973, outstanding food, friendly welcoming staff lots of regular customers.
Very good carry out.
We have been going regularly to the Shimla Cottage for about eight years now and have never been disappointed by the staff, the food or the friendly welcome.
The menu is full of interesting main dishes, starters, and sides that really do not disappoint.
Have been going here for over 40years always a pleasure..went to the original..Simla the one across the road still nice to see the present owners father on the occasions he is on the premises..
My partner and I had our dinner here on Friday night. It was clean, welcoming and the staff paid attention to detail. They had a group of young waiters that were learning their trade. They were all polite, friendly and were a credit to their senior staff. The food was superb, the wine was also excellent. To top it off, one of the friendly staff members offered to drive us home when we asked about booking a taxi. We will be back again soon, top class!
Lovely meal and excellent service. Staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Dinner for 2. Food was excellent and good service but I was disappointed with the bill. £105 for 2 starters two mains and bread. £8 odd for a bottle of sparkling water!!!! We had two, and 2 glasses of wine.Worse, £8 for 2 poppadoms and a teeny bowl of spiced onions and a splash of chutney. I'm glad I didn't bring the kids or I'd need to remortgage the house!!
So whilst the food is good, some of the prices are a bit ridiculous so for that reason I wont return. There's a sign on the door that states the price on the menu may not be the price you pay. However this I'm pretty sure is illegal. You need to charge the displayed price so the menu needs to be changed. At the very least consultation with the customer when ordering as most of our items were dearer than stated on the menu.
Went here tonight with family and 9 of us all agreed it was a success! Food was lovely and fresh, nan breads great too. All staff were lovely, one gentleman in particular went out of his way to accomodate our 3yr old granddaughter, who also enjoyed her food. Will definitely be back and would recommend this place highly!!
Excellent Indian restaurant very friendly and obliging staff. We will be back.
My husband Manj and I are visiting here from Canada. We were recommended to try this place and so glad we did. This is the most authentic Indian food that we have ever had. It is a family run business that has been passed down through the generations. Now being run by Tabby (3rd generation) who is a very nice man.Tabby gave us 10++ customer service. The portions were perfect, the flavour was impeccable and the service was second to none. So please make sure you try Shafiq's Shimla Cottage. You will not regret it

This is the best Indian cuisine restaurant ever. The food is all made fresh to order and tastes absolutely amazing. If you want to adapt the dish, they will do so to suit your taste. The descriptions of each type of dish on the menu are really helpful and they have a personal touch too. As for the staff, they are just so lovely. They make you feel welcome, special and the fuss they make over your kids is second to none. Thank you for always making our dining experience superb. If you haven't been, then go. I guarantee you will not be disappointed and you'll definitely go back :)
Ate here tonight on the spur of the moment. We were very warmly welcomed and shown a table by the window. The food we ordered was delicious. Advice was offered on certain dishes and it seemed nothing was a problem if you wanted some ingredients tweaked here and there - this shows all dishes are made from scratch. Remember to order coffee as it is served with delicious home made tablet. All in all a super meal, nice surroundings and genuinely attentive staff.
