Our first visit, and it was for our second wedding anniversary, we had a fairly early table as I was driving (from Newport) and knew I'd fancy a few drinks back in our town after dining. We were politely and efficiently received and seated, and found the floor staff to be fully attentive. Our order was taken for starters and mains once we had made our decisions, and the food came.. It was thoroughly enjoyable; I'd had the pigeon breast starter and my wife had garlic mushrooms, both were delicious. Mains, I had a rump steak (a very good rump and cooked exactly as a rare should be) and my better half had the venison suet which were both lovely. We progressed to deserts, I had a hot waffle with rum and raisin ice cream, and my lady had a cheeseboard and port. Again, lovely.
Lovely premises, pleasant and attentive staff, and clearly run with care, would certainly recommend.
Always a special experience visiting a B & P pub/restaurant. We've been to several. We occasionally like to make one the focus of a day out. The Oakley Arms is our most local and used when we want to impress family or special visitors. We were able to eat out on the terrace yesterday afternoon on our latest visit enjoying the view overlooking the pretty pool. (The inside is also excellent with a real "feel good" factor). Varied menu freshly printed daily is a nice touch. Hate laminated menus. Staff friendly throughout. Recommended....
This was our second impromptu visit, lovely setting and in summer will be fab to sit outside. The food is all freshly cooked and very high quality, the staff are very friendly and will help you with everything. The menu is really affordable in price and good value. Would highly recommend the Oakley arms.
