Such a warm, friendly and cosy country pub. Delicious food and excellent service - definitely recommend!!
Wonderfully welcoming pub, Very Dog friendly. Log fires, friendly staff, delicious menu. Separate restaurant area.
Cosy country pub- log fires, steak, delicious wines and excellent service. My new local and well worth the 15 minute drive!
Came for lunch the other weekend. Lovely, cosy country pub with great food and good atmosphere. Staff were friendly and dogs are welcome...would definitely recommend!

Bloody Awesome Pub - the best in the area by a country mile....
After a 2 mile walk we arrived at the pub to a blazing fire and a lovely welcome. Sunday lunch was delicious, we had a lovely afternoon and Will be back soon . Lovely to see the pub open and thriving again.
Firstly, let me start by saying that this pub/restaurant is an absolute gem. Situated in a beautiful rural location, it offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the service is top-notch.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the fillet steak. This was hands down the most delicious steak I have ever had the pleasure of eating. It was cooked to perfection - juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was an absolute delight, and I found myself savoring every moment of the experience.
The quality of the meat was exceptional, and it was clear that only the finest ingredients had been used. The seasoning was spot on, and the sides that accompanied the steak were equally as delicious.
Overall, I cannot recommend The Black Horse highly enough. If you're looking for a restaurant that serves up the most delicious fillet steak you'll ever taste, then this is the place for you. The combination of quality ingredients, skilled cooking, and excellent service make for an unforgettable dining experience that you won't want to miss.
We often visit this pub especially for the pie night and Sunday roast. Always delicious and served a welcoming smile. Highly recommended for the quaint pub atmosphere and when the weather is good, the outside space too. And don’t forget your pooch !!
Went for lunch with my brother daughter & niece for a belated birthday meal for the girls.
As soon as we got there we were greeted with friendly smiley bar staff.
We were shown to our table by a lovely young lady who was polite & asked us if everything was OK with the table, which it was.
She apologised & said there was a 45min wait for food is that going to be OK & it was for us.
Food was amazing I had the belly of pork roast as did two others & it was very tasty indeed cooked to perfection !!
We were asked several times if everything was to our liking, it was.
Lovely location great food & fantastic staff.
We will be back again.
Thank you Black Horse 💖
I stopped here last night for a drink and directions as i was lost and the satnav was not picking up any signal. The kind gentleman behind the the bar gave me directions that got me back onto a main road. I was extremely grateful! The pub was so lovely and friendly, with a wall of photos of some of their canine customers and welcome biscuits on the bar for dogs. It cheered me up after my frustrating journey! I only wish it was near me as I would definitely visit again with friends!
Lovely to come across a friendly welcoming pub.
Good food
Will be returning.
Thanks to Charley who was a helpful waitress with a great smile.
Great historic country pub with well kept ales and good wine selection. Good pub garden for the evening sun and the food is all well prepared with good vegetarian options. Come here regularly for the delicious roasts too.
We visited The Black Horse on New Years Day for lunch based on a recommendation for our host while we were staying at a holiday cottage nearby and it did not disappoint. Such a lovely welcoming atmosphere with a beautiful open fire. My husband and I both ordered the rib eye steak and chips and it was perfectly cooked. When the staff saw it was our anniversary they sent over a bottle of prosecco to say congratulations which was so thoughtful and completely unexpected. We could have stayed all day enjoying the delicious food and drink and would definitely return if we were ever in the area again.
The staff were wonderful, food was delightful. A 5 star evening. 100% would visit again. The feather blade beef was the highlight of the mains, salmon with salsa verde is a must try.
Table for two, no reservation was a risk but thankfully there was a space. (on a sunday).
A beautiful hidden gem in Hertfordshire. A beautiful garden if you choose not to dine inside. Plenty of space for kids to run around. Would love to comeback in the winter.
A classic, charming well run freehouse country pub.
Lovely establishment, great Sunday roast - I would say probably the best Sunday roast ever! The staff is super friendly and accommodating, the ambiance is welcoming and cosy. A hidden gem!
Excellent service from Misty and we all loved our Sunday roasts - would really recommend !
Great country pub. Friendly staff and great service. The garden is stunning and fab for dog lovers. Highly recommend.
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch here yesterday and without a doubt one of the best I've had in a very long time. Superb roast shoulder of pork, fabulous cauliflower cheese and amazing gravy. The staff were lovely as was the traditional country pub atmosphere. Dog friendly too. Will definitely become a regular destination for us!
Gorgeous location, great food and drink served by a friendly team. Proper old English pub
We had a lovely evening celebrating my niece's 13th birthday. The service we had was faultless, it really was first class. The food presentation was also very good, but the the main thing was it tasted amazing, even the children finished everything up!! So compliments to the chef's.
Our table was at the back which I think was called the Puckridge Room. The decor was really lovely.... Very stately which I like. I also liked the fact that you can see the kitchens working.
The only things I can fault about the experience was, the lampshades that hang down over each table was clear glass. You found yourself constantly looking at the light bulb as it was eye hight. Maybe a shade which directs the light down rather than out would be better?
Overall it was a fantastic meal with first-class servive, and I will definitely be going back and recommending the pub to all my friends and family. It's the best I've seen the Black Horse in decades and I've lived locally all my life so I know the establishment very well.
Thank you to your team

Lovely cooked Sunday roasts with friendly quick service 👌
Love that it is still a village pub and still feels like a pub. We came on Mother’s Day, generally the busiest day for pubs and restaurants. And it was busy. But the service was excellent, polite and attentive staff, the food delicious and we can’t wait to return. And it will be very soon! The roast beef is calling!!! 😊
Rafaela was very attentive we recommend this pub
