Had my birthday meal here on the 8th of April. 15 of us in total. The staff were so accommodating on booking and had fab service throughout. For the amount of us eating the level of how the food was cooked was spot on. Love this hidden gem. Will definitely be back soon. Everyone on the table was paying complements to how good the food is.

This is very local for us and never had a bad meal. We had a reunion last night, and weren't sure how many would turn up. There was quite a crowd in the end, but the staff handled it with ease and grace......and they even let us pay separately! Would highly recommend it

Had a lovely meal yesterday. Really nice pub. Lovely food and good surroundings. Only slight niggle yesterday. My daughter and I had had a scotch egg starter which was delicious but on the board it was advertised with black pudding and apple salad. There was no black pudding or apple. This was not a deal breaker as everything else was perfect

Dropped in on the off chance as we were staying round the corner at the Brandon Hall hotel, they found us a table straight away and staff were very friendly. We had our 5 year old with us and noticed children eat free with a paying adult before 6pm-great offer! We shared a starter bread/olives and garlic pesto which was lovely then my husband had fish pie and I had lasagne, both were excellent. The gin selection is very good too the Rhubard with ginger ale was my favourite! Great find and definitely recommend.

Had a very enjoyable evening here. Good atmosphere, great staff and tasty, well cooked food. You pay a bit more than a 'fare and square' or 'hungry house' but it's worth it. Definitely recommended.

The food and the time it took to be served was great, but we could hear them making fun of our order behind the bar 😭 Was a good experience outside of that, and food was delicious. Good value if you go at a lunch time too, they do a two for one deal.

My wife and I popped in for a beer and a little snack. There was a nice selection of ales to try. I had the Wadsworth 6X. Very nice. The place was quite full with people enjoying the two for one menu. The food menu looked interesting with several vegetarian options. We will come back sometime soon.

Cheap and cheerful. Visited the Royal Oak yesterday with family. It has a mildly farmhouse aesthetic inside and out, and is dog friendly. The staff were friendly, and came to the table often enough to make sure we were happy and if we wanted anything. The food was reasonable, but it's definitely just "pub grub" - if you want two for one mains, this is your place, but you get what you pay for. I'd definitely go back as I had a nice time and there's enough choice of food and drink for a return visit. There are plenty of pubs with better food selection and quality out there, but the bill is a lot cheaper here!

Having stumbled across The Royal Oak whilst in the area, we now travel here regularly to dine. We find the value outstanding, the service excellent, with very friendly and accommodating staff, and the 241 dining exceptional value for money. We pub is always busy but there's always a table even though we have booked, higher recommended, we certainly recommend to others. Visit you won't be disappointed 👍

First time there. Ample free parking. Sat outside on a sunny afternoon, passing trains were a surprise distraction but not off putting. Food was very, very good, we ordered the surf'n turf and the lasagne, both cooked perfectly, and the 2 for 1 (limited days/times) was a pleasant surprise to the wallet. Even without the prices are reasonable. Service was friendly and efficient. We will definitely be back to sample the interior ambience. Thanks.

Would recommend surf n turf steak if going for 2 for 1 offer. I've had it 3 times so far but will go for a burger next time and mix it up :)

Having stayed at a local hotel really dissapointed last time with their food thought I would try this local pub. Booked a table over the phone no problem and was shown to my seat upstairs. Waiting and bar staff very young but were all great so credit to them. Ordered a steak and was one of the best stakes I have ever had. Cooked superbly and you could tell it was good quality meat. When the waitress said plates and food was hot she was right. All in all a good experience and will becoming again in January with others when I have to come back for a conference.

Went for lunch on a Sunday, service was very prompt and lunch was on the table within 5min of ordering, making it feel a bit rushed. Vegan selection was ok main meal wise, but only sorbet available for dessert, which meant no one bothered having a pudding. Generally a nice pub with good service and pleasent atmosphere.

Efficient friendly service. Food was perfect, well presented and attention to detail. Simple things like the butter being soft, and little twists like the ploughmans being served with a roasted head of garlic to spread on your fresh chunky bread. Found it by chance after coming home from Go Ape. Would definitely come back.

Very nice pub. Food was great, no complaints. The service was a little slow on a not particularly busy afternoon, but the food was cooked fresh.

Consistently good pub food, we visit several times a year and it never fails to deliver. They offer a loyalty card which is stamped after each visit and, when fully stamped, it entitles you to a free main course. The portion sizes are on the large side (which suits me!) if you're a small eater you will struggle with more than just a main course. I'd definitely recommend sharing the camembert between two (pictured). There are a number of vegetarian options, of which I highly recommend the veggie lasagna (I actually prefer it to the beef). If you can manage a dessert, I'd highly recommend the Movenpick ice creams from the specials menu. Reservations are advised, especially at peak times, as it tends to get quite busy. People in wheelchairs may struggle, not sure if it's possible to come through another entrance but the restaurant area is up a flight of steps. Having said that the bar area is on ground level and it's possible to eat here too. Worth giving them a call to ask. During winter the restaurant area can be a little on the chilly side, so if you feel the cold make sure you've got a jumper (it's never uncomfortably cold mind). There are two car parks, both of which are free to use and I've never struggled to find a space.
