What a great dine in or take out experience. We enjoyed lunch so much that we came back for dinner that evening! The service was cordial, the food was tasty and made our mouths water. And you got a nice view from the window walls. The dining area inside is small but there is an outside seating available. Many locals were in ordering take-out. Our food was served promptly and was hot. We would be regulars if we lived in the area! The establishment sells mugs, bags, and tin cups if you desire. A must stop in place to add to your journey through the Shetlands!
Wonderful Mussels in honey and chilli. Best I have had, complete with a digital display showing me the boat which catches the fish locally. This and many other nice touches, makes this worth the effort to get to.
Great chippy. Excellent classic fish, chips, mushy peas and tea one night (take out), then back again for sit in with muscles and fish cakes a couple of days later on their patio. Everything was top class.
Saw this little last year on way back from Cullivoe to lerwick, but was pushed for time so didn't stop.
This year we managed to stop and wasn't disappointed.
The food was excellent, we arrived at 12:00 and there was only a few tables left unreserved, so make sure you book if you want a seat.
The haddock was tasty, the batter crispy and the scallops were super fresh.
If you are in Shetland, make it a must stop.
Stopped off on spec and the staff were helpful and got us a table even although it was busy. Shared a fish supper between us and it was excellent. Really fresh fish.
Nice cafe/restaurant with a view In the small village.
Decent sized portion, tasty chips and the chicken was top quality.
Great service and served promptly
We wanted to dine in but all tables were reserved (17:30ish) so we opted to take away and eat in the car.
Quickly prepared. Excellent fish and chips. Excellent mussels. Amazing mushy peas. Very nice tea (English breakfast).
Definitely recommend, and would go back. 😁
The fish, chips and peas were delicious. They even brought us a piece of bread and butter which wasn't on the menu.
The only slight downside was the coffee was a bit cold and of course the price, but these days everything is going up as we all know.
Fish, chips, peas, a slice of bread and butter cost over £40. A fish supper to take out £13.50.
Delicious shetland fish and chips and great mussels. Worth the drive
what a brilliant restaurant, up there with the best! I had pan fried scallops and they were wonderful!!
Absolutely Delicious!
So happy to have found a fish and chip place that proposes fresh gluten free haddock with delicious chips!
As a newly diagnosed coeliac it has been awhile since I had battered fish because the other fish and chips in the UK do not propose gluten free options.
I have to come more often to Shetland for Frankie's Fish & Chips.
Thank you and again very good food (recommend also pan fried scallops)
Meal with a nice view. Had fish and chips. Fish was delicious and the chips were so delightful.
After removing the breading and soaking up the grease in a napkin the fish was very good. Sadly I am unable to eat deep fried foods. Cute place, glad I went.
Frankie's Fish and Chips is famous and award winning for a reason. The cripiest and lightest fish and chips ever and consistently so. There food is always very good here but the dining room is very small and they do get busy so if you want to eat there I would make a reservation. They also close quite early so be sure to plan ahead. But you can also take your food to go and this is a beautiful area so it's not a burden to take your food outside and eat with a beautiful view. If you are in Shetland, you really should visit at least once on your trip. My FIL had the black pudding and he loved it.
It will cause arguments but for me the best fish and chips in Shetland. Bit of a wait. And pricy for fish and chips but worth it. Recommend booking if you want to sit in so that should give you an idea of how good it is.
The battered haddock and chips was amazing! Light and crispy. Delicious! My cousin, a cook, thought the steamed mussels with parsley and lemon were outstanding! Best she's ever eaten. Her husband said the fish cakes were true fish cakes and perfectly seasoned. He rated the fish cakes and chips as excellent. Salad was fresh and crispy served with a house mustard dressing common in the islands. Worth the trip to Brae and the cost. See menu photos for price at time of visit.
Lovely food but I downgraded the service and atmosphere as we had hoped to be able to sit in. This was to be our lunch, enroute to our campsite. However, we weren't to know that we had to book a table and, therefore, had to accept a takeaway. OK for those that know - not so good for the holiday travellers, like ourselves, who don't know the local area
The smoked and breaded haddock was the best fried fish I've had. ever. A recent experience at an 'award winning' chippy in Fife made me want to leave a review after their breaded haddock was sorely lacking in flavor and crunch.
