Really nice food. Huge naan, and probably the best masala fish I've had.
Most staff seemed busy/not the best attention, but our Bengali waiter was the opposite, very attentive and smiling.
Was a bit surprised to be asked if I wanted to tip as we're in the UK, but there's nothing 'wrong' with that.
We visited Akbars today and can say its just the best restaurant in the whole of Bradford. We were served by Faizaan who went above and beyond with his fantastic service, food was amazing cant ever fault it.
We attended Akbar's Restaurant around 17:55 on Sunday 09/07/23.
As soon as we entered were greeted instantly, the lady was professional and informative she did advise they have stopped selling alcohol (I didn’t even know they sold it I would have left if they did sorry but personal preference).
It was quite busy so this must be popular establishment.
We were given a table for 2 but this was quite close to the entrance and little privacy and besides us 2 lady’s were given the same type of table and they requested a more private sitting which staff did honour there requests, so I asked the gentlemen (I assume he was the manager) if we could get a larger/private table, he did state that he could put the table the ladies left together with ours to make it bigger but we wanted something private, we did notice a table that was getting cleaned but they didn’t give us that an showed us a table further in the restaurant (same size as the one given previously) but it was close to the kitchen and stairs as it was better than the first option we took this option.
Once seated we realised the table was wobbly and every time someone walk past (mainly staff) as the floor board were slightly sunk due year of staff walking past it would shake our table so we have to be careful with drinks and the family naan as it would feel like they would topple over. Also, the music was really loud in the establishment or we were seated in close proximity of a speaker.
There were a lot of waiters and they did ask if we were ready to order.
We ordered:
1 x Veg Samosa Chaat
1 x Keema Cheese Samosa
1 x Spicy Chips
1 x Pilau Rice
1 x Chicken & Chilli Balti
1 x Family Naan (the really big one on hook)
2 x Harrogate bottles of water
Total = £39.75
I thought the total would be around £45 so price wise they are okay.
Starter took around 6-8 minutes to arrive which I thought was fast and the Mrs loved the samosa chaat and the keema cheese samosa was amazing! Spicy were okay I was expecting more spice but nothing major complain about, I did have to call over the waiter to ask for our main to come as I didn’t want to finish my starters and wait for long time to get the mains, my Mrs stated she didn't like the pilau rice (she is very picky with rice) so we didn't eat that, the chicken & chilli balti was really good also but our family naan was burnt quite a bit (I compared to naans given to other patrons).
Our waiter was very nice and helpful (I only tipped due to the service he gave) when paying you are given an option to give tip, they are not pushy on this (which is plus) the waiters carry with the tasks until you have paid or call them over.
We did ask for food to be prepared in take out boxes and to my surprise the waiter came with take put boxes, lids and bag for the naan – I did mention this to my Mrs but she stated other people had to pack there food away then later on I saw another couple do the same, not impressed with this method I understand this is self service (this assists staff with less work) but the last thing I expect in half decent restaurant it getting my hands dirty (after cleaning them) to pack my food away, especially on table so small, would not have been a big issue if the table was larger!
Also, the toilets were really clean and they have lolta in the men's restroom (but the ladies restroom doesn't - Mrs advised me) unique wash basins.
One plus is they have there own parking across the restaurant, I confirmed with the manager both parking lots our for Akbar’s Restaurant.
I don’t think they have prayer room but I do think they would benefit from this.
Food 3.8 stars
Seating, Service and Atmosphere 3.5 stars
Price Wise 4.4 stars
Overall 4 stars.
I would only recommend my family and friends to come here on less busy periods, I personally believe if we attended on less busy period the overall experience would be much better.
Absolutely fantastic place, I went today with my family, the service is absolutely amazing, very friendly and polite staff, staff were great with my daughter, brilliant atmosphere.
food was awesome, I wish I didn’t have to travel to Bradford for this amazing food.
Will certainly be visiting again.
Big thank you to Ali (our server) keep up the great work.
Was reluctant due to reading some recent reviews but found it exceptional.
Remember key to get service is to speak up and ask what you want.
If find anything is lacking mention it straight away as we did and they happily 😁 addressed it
Highly recommended!!!!
Been here many times. We spent nearly £400 yesterday. It was the spiciest we've ever had. 10 of us ended up with stomach pains. I Was on the toilet 3 times this morning. More came out, then went in, came out more spicier aswel.
Will I come again?......100% I will. Expert advice, just ask for less spicy, to avoid fireworks later.
Great food, great service. Always very busy, but we didnt wait long for our table of 7 to be seated.
Although busy, we didnt feel rushed at all. The food came quickly and was delicious.
So glad they still do their signature GIANT naan bread on a tree!
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal
We went to Akbars restaurant with friends & had an awesome night out. The restaurant was very busy & we had to wait but when we got the mocktails it was so worth it. The food was awesome from starter to mains. The giant naan was delicious. Was a nice memorable evening. The interior is well decorated too & staff were very nice & served all the food in a nice manner. Food was all presented very well & tasted so good. We got the kebab for starter & the paneer & chicken curry for mains. My friend got the bhindi curry for vegetarian dish. The mocktails were awesome & i had to get them twice they were so good. Top marks for this restaurant in bradford 10/10
Lovely food and a great place to eat! Always excellent food.
Update October 2023: no longer serves alcohol but the food is still great. Can sometimes be a wait to get all the dishes served for large tables (10-12 or more) but this is unfortunately normal for most places.
Akbars cafe moved to Akbars restaurant but dnt sell alcohol or allow it, which is great.
Abit of wait for it as it was extremely busy but was worth it.
The chicken steak and lamb steak were delicious, well charcoaled, flavoursome and had the Asian spice. Ie went nice spiced but not too spicy, well. Balanced.
The pasta is always a bonus, again tasted fresh.
I was stuffed with that meal but normally there meat chops are delicious too.
Pina colada and rhe strawberry daqari were on point.
Defo recommend for steak lovers.
Take card and cash.
Best karahi ever!!! I will start with the mouthwatering meat chops, they were very well seasoned and very tender probably one of the best chops I had. Lamb Charsi karahi has to be the winner, definitely have to try it, probably the best karahi I ever had . First time tried spinach chicken balti and it was amazing too. Akbars never disappoint!!! Definitely try the lamb charsi next time when you go ..
Havent been for such a long time. So glad I came back. Absolutely delicious. Love the taste of their curry's here. Definitely one of the best restaurants around Bradford. Staff are so friendly and always on hand when you need something. Thank you.
