From start to finish, the whole Sunday carvery experience was absolutely fabulous. The staff were friendly and attentive, but not overly.
The food was exceptional, possibly the best carvery we've ever had.
Would definitely recommend, and will return when we're next in the area.

Extremely friendly team, met with smiles and nothing was too much to ask. We emailed ahead as our daughter finds eating out tricky so requested simple pasta and cheese. I had a response straight away and it was no problem. They even made a note of this request ahead of when we arrived. It made our daughter feel much more comfortable. The food was delicious and the choices on the carvery were great. My husband was very pleased with the portion size of meat he was given. Lovely pub and we will definitely keep coming back. Good food. We only wanted small plates as we don't eat a lot. We had to pay top price wasn't happy at all.. So we went somewhere else for Sunday roast. Food was very good had small plates paid £ 11.00 so Bowd Inn lost out for 3 more Sundays for 4 people we are holiday makers from Yorkshire
I am not one to leave reviews as a rule as this is now mainly the domain of habitual whingers but it was justified in this case. We were staying in nearby Sidmouth and were looking for somewhere to eat on a Sunday evening. Not an easy task- The Bowd Inn kindly fitted us in last minute. We were surprised to hear that the Inn had only reopened 2 weeks previously after being closed for 5 months. You would not have believed this, the staff were well organised, helpful and friendly. The place looked great. My wife had the carvery that looked very nice and I had the chicken curry which was pretty good for a pub curry. We finished off with a lemon meringue pie each with good quality ice cream. In summary; Good food, good value, lovely place and great staff. Well done guys, credit where it is due, you are doing a fantastic job. Will happily return when we are back in the area.
Loved it, loved it loved it!! What a great experience. We both decided to try the food here and went for the carvery and have to say, it's one of the best we've had. A choice of three meats, beef, turkey and pork. The beef melted in the mouth and the turkey was juicy and flavorful. A really good choice of veg and to top it off, a Yorkie pud ( almost as good as the wife's ) ( she made me say that lol ) From the minute we walked in we felt welcome, the staff were superb and very attentive. We only wish we had found this place earlier. Highly recommended.
Absolutely lovely place.. staff/owner's are really nice only stopped for a pint and charge my phone beautiful building and grounds fantastic thank you guys

Turned up with the kids on a busy Sunday lunchtime, with no booking. They were busy but still happy to get us a spot. Friendly welcome. Good carvery. And a decent pint of Guinness
The Bowd Inn is well known locally, but now has new owners. Food standards and choices are high and you will be made very welcome. Their carvery has to be experienced, but make sure to book. EASY PARKING and access. Toilets were spotless as was the cutlery and glassware. I wish it was my local!
We had a very good meal here. The sea bass with linguine was changed fir my husband to have new potatoes instead of linguine for my husband to make it gluten free. It was delicious. We also had a sticky toffee pudding and. Roulande which were both lovely. The service was spot on . We will be returning.
Have driven past this place many times on the way to Sidmouth and always looked busy. Decided to stop off on the way back home . Really lovely place, warm atmosphere, friendly staff and lovely food. Now I know why it aways looked busy. Will definitely be visiting again when we are down on holiday.
Very friendly welcome.....not too busy as it was shortly after the lunch time slot had started. The food was lovely my wife particularly enjoyed the cottage pie........puddings were fab as well.
Lovely old building, with lots of nooks and crannies. We are outside as it was a glorious day.
Service was a bit slow, don't know why they give you a paddle number, rather than numbering the tables so they know where you are? Their ice-cream, that we had for sweet, was gorgeous!
We had a starter and a sweet, so less expensive, but that was enough on a working day...
Warm, friendly folks. Good food and they served us even though it was getting on for mid afternoon. Wonderful black beams Tudor interior. It looked authentic too. No theme pub.
Only downer was the flies trying to land on the dinner as the front door was open, But this has happened to me in many places this summer. Damn flies everywhere this year. Really stops one from being able to chill when one's food is under Ariel attack.
When I think of old fashioned pub grub, I think of a warm welcome, a quality meal, value for money and a good sized hearty portion.
Let me tell you that the Bowd Inn delivered on all counts. The mid-week carvery deal is definitely the way to go. I have no hesitation in recommending The Bowd.
I would recommend booking a table beforehand. It gets quite busy with "mature diners".
The meat portions and quality were excellent, as were most of the vegetables. Unfortunately, although tasty, the potatoes had very hard coatings and were very difficult to cut into. My Yorkshire pudding was burnt on the bottom, and it was also very difficult to cut into.
Very dog friendly. The time arrived, it appeared everyone brought their dog... but then I think I was in a section where dogs were aloud. Food great, Otter Ale is great and good service.
Superb food, exceptionally quick service and friendly staff. Very reasonably priced food, particularly in the current climate, and some very good real.ale on the pumps👍🏻
