Third time here and well worth passing a few other places for! Our meal was so good and so was the service there was a nice atmosphere to, tho we were a bit unlucky this time with a large table of women arriving close by but we moved and peace was restored once again. I hope the place never goes bankrupt and closes down or let’s people in who use terrible language.
Last minute decision to eat here on a bank holiday as could cater for coeliac / gluten free - what a fantastic idea that was !! Very varied menu & wonderful specials menu - staff lovely & food great - tasty & good sized portions - will definitely come back.
Lovely olde worlde cosy pub, some great ales on offer and some equally good food. Spacious dining area, friendly and efficient staff. Would recommend.
Lovely pub my kids loved the outside play area- and being vegan the food menu was quite limited but the chef made me a delicious veg risotto and salad and was quite happy to cater
Been to this delightful pub quite a few times & NEVER had a bad meal, staff are excellent & the food & service always top notch!

Found it accidentally, looked inviting so stayed for Sunday lunch. Was lovely. Staff were very efficient and friendly. Would definitely go again, worth the half hour or so drive.

Excellent service and really nice food. I ate there with 4 friends for 60th Birthdays and took a takeaway home for my Husband. He said it was the best liver and bacon he's ever had.
We went on a Sunday afternoon. We had Lasagne and the veg risotto and they were both delicious. Really friendly service and great atmosphere. This is the first time we'd been. We chose it as it had a beer garden and play area for the kids. We will definitely be going back!!
Friendly staff. Good food, had quite a few options to choose from. Children enjoyed their food, ice cream and the play equipment outside. Plenty of parking although there were only one or two cars when we arrived, the car park looked quite full when leaving and had got quite busy inside. Might be best to book a table, we didn't, but they managed to accommodate us with 2 different tables, no issues though as the children seemed to like having their own table together.
Good food, very reasonable prices, staff pleasant and attentive. Didn't have to wait long to order or for food and it was reasonably busy.
I had the chilli with tortillas and sour cream was very nice, chilli had a reasonable kick, Good size portion.
My friend had the burger and she thoroughly enjoyed hers too!
Two visits, two great experiences ... and probably the best menu anywhere. It's rare that I struggle to choose between 5 or 6 starters and a similar number of mains, especially from a one-page menu! Great service, wonderful food, lovely beer, and a sensible price.
Dined from 14:30 this time and chose from the Sunday menu. My partner had the seafood salad, and you couldn't have gotten more delicious seafood on the plate...barely room for the salad! I had the chicken, ham & leek pie, and it came as a very well filled slice. Moist, chunks of meat in shortcrust pasty...served with a lovely rich sauce, new potatoes & a nice little selection of vegetables.
Excellent hot food and a nod to the staff who allowed us to take our time.
This pub is now in my top 5 in Essex!
The pub is your typical oldy worldly building with beams and open fire, lots of parking, lots of seating, and a massive car park.
Staff friendliness and service was second to none!
Food was amazing! I had the steak and Gunness pie (recommend by waitress) and it was perfect, full with filling and crusty pastry.
Made by the chef which they said most food is made and prepared on site.
We all loved the food here so much obviously we had to squeeze in dessert which was made up fresh on ordering.
So glad we came here by chance as we will definitely be back here.
I highly recommend you visit to eat and also may be worth booking as it did get busy by the time we left at lunchtime.
This is a great pub with good food. Some items better than others but it has a lovely garden with swings and slide etc for the kids. On a warm day this is the perfect place to go with a young family. The kids menu is fab and the staff really lovely.
We had an amazing family meal on Saturday 8th July. Nothing was too much trouble for our wonderful waiter(didn't get his name, but an experienced and senior member of staff)

Went for family meal in June. The food is amazing. The staff are very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Exceptional service by the big boss and all of the staff. Very good value for money. Will certainly return.
Went for Sunday dinner. Lovely environment and food and the staff were great. Tables quite close together meaning you can hear other conversations but apart from that it was perfect. The portions are huge so make sure to are hungry.
Popped in for lunch today. Was welcomed as soon as I walked through the door. Saw I had my mask on & immediately asked if I would like to sit in a secluded corner.
Had already decided what I wanted to eat until I saw the specials for today!! Game stew it was then.... delicious & very warming.
Just a couple of tables had been taken when I arrived, on leaving 45 minutes later the place was packed!!!
Had a lovely meal here on a dark damp weekday evening with friends. Despite it being cold outside, it was nice and cosy inside, and had a nice atmosphere about it.
In terms of food, it isnt a cheap pub food type place, I guess it's a gastro pub of sorts. There is a main menu, but also a number of specials available - feeling adventurous I went for Partridge Sausages which is something I had not even thought of having before. The meal was very nice, and the service was very quick / efficient! If I had not been driving I would have tried some of the beers, but perhaps next time...

Wonderful food great staff nice place to visit
It's great to find a place that does nice food, but also has a playground for the kids. Add to that that they are happy to serve outside so you can enjoy the last of the summer and you're got a recipe for a five star review.
The roast was great, and the desserts were tasty and we'll presented. There was minimal wait for the food as well. The play equipment is extensive for a eatery garden, with a tire swing some swings a seesaw and some climbing frames.
All in all definitely worth a visit.
Nice traditional pub, choice of ales and lagers plus cider etc.
We visited on a Monday night and it was pretty quiet. I know others who have been on other weeknights and seen it busier.
Large choice of specials on the wall and reasonable menu choice. A lot of dessert choice which was tough to decide on!
Staff very friendly!
Maybe a bit more veggie/vegan choice please but that would be all!
