This would have been a 5 Star review if it wasn't for the awful drain smell on the stairs and up to the toilets.Staff were friendly and quick to serve. Our pizzas came out with warm plates and were delicious. The decor and different areas in the place are great. There are 3 different outside areas to sit and enjoy the sunshine and a free car park to the side just tops this Wetherspoons of nicely.Worth a visit if your in the area and I'd love to revisit and give it a 5 star if the smell was gone.
Lovely staff and wel .kept beers..keep up the good work
Our local 'Spoon is right next to the gorgeous Stuart-era Bolsover Castle and has reliably tasty food. The beers could be better and they often run out of ketchup but the staff is good, the bathrooms better than most, and the pizzas and desserts are incredible. Very good curry club, too.

The Pillar of Rock is a large JD Wetherspoon pub that's directly adjacent to the village's single tourist attraction, Bolsover Castle. That's certainly the reason why the pub can get VERY busy during lunchtime, especially on weekends. The layout of this place is very straightforward (one very large barroom), and there's a smaller outside seating area to the front. Otherwise, it's pretty much JDW 101: cheapest drinks in town, including a fair rotating selection of cask ales (though smaller than at some other "Spoons"), inexpensive, streamlined pub food, not terribly forthcoming staff, etc. But a good lunch option after a visit to the castle, which is really the only reason to travel to Bolsover.
This is definitely one of our favourite Wetherspoons for breakfast! The service was super quick and the breakfasts were delicious. Coffee machines at both ends of the bar is really useful. After eating we took our drinks outside and enjoyed the sunshine. Lovely!
Our 1st visit here early dec 2022 was really disappointing. The food was cold and bad service.
Today 16th jan 2023 we were in the area again and thought 2nd chance. Come on it is a weatherspoons so it should be good value.
On entering I saw that there was a manager offer on several meals. I picked fish and chips and a cup of tea for under a fiver. £4.98.
Wife went with a menu dinner.
For the price I expected a small portion. I was delighted when I saw it . Also it tasted really good . Fish was pipping hot.
Wife said her meal was miles better too.
We stayed at our table afterwards for a couple of more free refills of tea.
We are moving near here and was disappointed in Dec thinking we must be near the worst weatherspoons in the UK . Today we are now looking forward to many meals here this year
A very nice Wetherspoons close to Bolsover castle.
Pleasant service and good food. Internet can be hit and miss.
Parking on site for the castle. Not sure if parking allowed for restaurant users
Better than the two in Chesterfield (in my opinion)
Very good Wetherspoon pub. Good quality real ale, nice smart decor, tidy toilets. Best pub in Bolsover (not much praise admittedly as the rest of the pubs and there's not many, are dire). Please note the Pillar of Rock is in Bolsover, Google's location places it in Chesterfield ! (two other Wetherspoons there).
Go for breakfast often at this place but it's not always consistent. It depends which chef is on that day. There's one chef that I really like as they give a decent portion but others are very tight. I had to ask for more beans once because I literally had a table spoons worth on my plate. The only other thing that bothers me is the absolute racket servers make when putting dirty plates and cutlery in the collection area, it's like they throw it from the other side of the restaurant. Not nice while you're trying to eat. It's a nice pub though.
A Wetherspoons at a quiet town and there is a relatively large car park area right next to it. During good weather, the location is good if you want to enjoy an afternoon on a public holiday day sitting just outside the building.
The usual good value selection of food and drink. This place is ideal for lunch after a morning visit to Bolsover Castle. Small free car park by the pub intended for people visiting the Castle. Outdoor seating at the front and side of this place.
Didn't have a meal this time so can't comment but the place was clean and the staff helpful. Will definitely return to sample the food, which looked good
