Our first visit yesterday. My lunch of hot beef roll and chips was lovely. Enough melt in the mouth roast beef to feed at least 2 adults. So much infact that i had to leave the bread bun! 'Proper' hand cut chips and a gravy boat of tasty beef gravy. Kids meal of fish fingers and chips went down a treat. Lovely polite and friendly staff too. We will be returning very soon!

Very friendly staff, nothing is too much hassle for them including, lovely relaxed environment and best of all after letting the dog off for a run along the beach you can end it with a nice glass of wine.

It is on the Coast and Castles cycle route and makes a perfect rest stop before that last push to Tynemouth/Newcastle. Having cycled past it on many training cycle rides, I hadn’t really noticed it was there as it is slightly tucked away and doesn’t really advertise itself. Only because a friend recommended the food, did we stop. The food is amazing and the service very friendly. I will certainly be making more stops there in the future. Thank you.

Went into the bar initially for a coffee. Very friendly lots of character and an outstanding setting facing the beach. Met John Charlton who assured us his fish and chips were the best around. We went for a walk and returned for lunch. The fish and chips were excellent far better than anything available in Manchester.

We had a fabulous lunch at Charlton's today. The service was excellent and the food was perfect and well presented. We were so full that we could not manage to eat it all and the Waitress kindly provided us with a container to take the remaining food home which we enjoyed later in the day. I was born in Cambois Village and used to visit Browns Farm, as a child. Therefore, I was able to take a trip down Memory Lane. We look forward to our next visit. Thank you for making our visit so special.

Took my mother here for lunch today. The barman was very friendly and helpful. We both had Tuscan chicken and chips and it was delicious - best chips I've ever had. Had a good walk along the coast afterwards.

In the quite area of cambois where you usually expect nothing, lies a quaint little facility once known as the buccaneer, an old pub now pleasantly revived and providing a lovely atmosphere. The interior was that of a simplistic and warm vibe, the only slight downside was just simple housekeeping, with some placemats dirty and a few dead flies on the windowsill, a good roundhouse clean and check in the morning would sufficiently fix this issue. Where the visit was enhanced was from the food, now were not talking gastro pub gourmet here, it plays to happy, warm and classic food, and on a Sunday this facility definitely hit points. I had the soup to start, a lentil and bacon, and there was no shed of water downed processed product in sight, this was real i am thick homemade soup and it was moorish indeed, i indulged in a little bit of the pate aswell and that too was ideal The Sunday dinner mains cane and i was a shock, the plate was piled and plenty of food which is great for a big appetite, and they did not crimp on the trimmings indeed! Was a shock to find out that these meals were efficiently cheap aswell, with the starters at £2 a dish and £7.99 a Sunday dinner ( £1 extra for lamb ). Overall a great experience and the minor cleanliness issues can be overlooked easily if looked at.

Only been in the shack alongside Charlton pub. Just recently discovered the area. Lovely friendly manageress who served me coffee & ice-cream for my grandson. Fabulous walk along beach with small kids park nearby. Real quiet, clean little gem on Northumberland coast. How glad I am that we found this place. My dog goes crazy on cambois beach, he just loves it & so do I. So many friendly doggie people to speak to on our walk from river wansbeck to North blyth if the tide is out. The Shack do amazing fish & chips when you've worked up an appetite. We are now firm fans of Sunday lunch at Charltons. Very tasty choice of 4 meats with good portions of vegetables served by very friendly lasses. Tomato soup starter is fabulous as is pudding especially apple crumble pie. Highly recommended.

Very safe during this pandemic, adjoining restaurant has great food and there is a free car park opposite the pub with a great sea view. They also have a Pool Table and outside seating.
