What a smashing little pub! Had a fantastic lunch here with family. The restaurant serves up tapas style dishes and an amazing roast. It’s served up on sharing platters so everyone can dig in and help themselves. Great local produce and cooked beautifully.
Love this pub. Great beer Lovely atmosphere. Food to die for, completely different. Spanish and Devon tapas cooked to perfection. Excellent cook, friendly and helpful staff. Going back on Thursday for more tasty tapas. Go there for a wonderful experience. Thank you.
This was my first experience of tapas, and I can honestly say that I was not disappointed it was amazing. I was with a group who normally ordered from a fixed menu in advance. The host was very happy to extend the full menu to us to order on arrival. The service was prompt. The staff were very fri
It's no surprise it has great reviews. The concept and food choice and quality is a real winner. I think we had 7 different dishes from sirloin steak to soft shell crab, tuscan sausage, cray fish, chicken of the woods to name a few.... it's been a long time since we have had such an enjoyable experi
Absolutely loved it. We had 6 dishes between two of us and it was ample. Each dish was a taste sensation. The hard part was choosing which dishes to have. Reasonably priced food, lovely staff. Gorgeous old building, been a pub since the 1700s. Will definitely visit again tonwade my way through the
What a boon to our village is the Black River Inn. Chef Pallatt is a magician with food and Gill Pallatt is the perfect host and manages her restaurant, bar and team with flair, style and a smile. I have never had anything but amazing food at the BRI but last night’s eating experience was exceptiona

Awsome venue with proper old time pub atmosphere..great ales..the food looked suburb though I didn't have time to try as was on a bike ride.. very extensive menu.. magnificent views of the "proper" Devon from the back garden..happy friendly staff.. totally recommend it..
Brilliant evening out, despite the kitchen problems..... The staff are friendly, helpful and a real treasure that I hope the owner realises he has..... they handled an unexpected situation brilliantly..... we enjoyed everything so much we booked again for the following night but unfortunately it w
Beer was ok but it could have been better. The food however was fantastic. It's a small plates/meze/tapas menu, cooked over a wood fire (you can see into the kitchen) , nothing pretentious here just simple well cooked food, we had 5 dishes all were delicious, the dishes arrive when they are ready so
Great starters and mains, the dessert (tart) wasn't great but maybe just steer clear of this as everything else was incredible! The two young waiters were rushed off their feet all evening so felt a bit sorry for them...but they tried their hardest and did a great job in the circumstances.
This is a fantastic pub with great food cooked on a wood fired oven. One of favourite places for roast ever. The oven makes your pork all smokey. Run by nice people. Prices are great.
Lovely little pub, with a tasteful but quirky interior. The staff are lovely and the food was fantastic. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu and the chef was happy to make some additional vegan dishes which were all fantastic!
Just had an absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch at this lovely pub, very friendly & welcoming. 3 meat roast was lovely &the best pub roast potatoes ever. The Golden Arches apple pie was the best ever. A real must to visit. Oh, the Devon Dream beer was exactly that, a definite 5 stars from my friends &
Wonderful evening with incredible Tapas .....cosy and comfortable with excellent staff!!
Great food in a lovely village pub and good service, thank you.
Lovely Devon village pub that does a range of tapas , it wasn't quite what we were expecting but there were some delightful dishes and the food was presented well and tasted great. Service was a little slow but hey it's high season and they were busy. Staff were attentive and polite. We'd go again.
