Beautifull setting here very relaxing been here few times with guests always happy with food and the service . Lots of quality wine and outdoor seating so relaxing good prices lots for everyone to choose from on menu very happy here
Lovely, quirky restaurant. Great service, good food. Definitely recommend
Sat in the courtyard and we had coffee and my two friends also had a toasted teacake and gluten free crumpet. Service was excellent and the bill was a reasonable £11.50.
Lovely home cooked food. Excellent choices for vegetarians and gluten free. Freindly staff. HIghly recommended.
Paradise for coeliacs; and Heaven for everyone else.
This was a lovely place to stop for a bite to eat. The food is simple but fresh and delicious. Staff made us feel welcome and there was an interesting display of fine wines and spirits to peruse.
There's a car park right nextdoor so easy to park too.
Will be back for sure!
Extremely generous portions of excellent home cooked, fresh food. Partner's Stilton & Broccoli soup was rated as 'absolutely delicious'. My Ploughmans lunch contained thick cut ham, salads, pickles, pickled onions, and two huge lumps of Stilton and Brie. In fact, had to tale some home as was so full. Sat outside in the sun and made for a very pleasant lunch.
Lovely and quite was very impressed with the recommendations of the pear and butterscotch pie enjoyed it . Shocked at the tea if I remember £3.50 for a pot of tea to share and got so many cups out of it would definitely be going there again . Had to give the young lady a tip to . Everyone smiling and doing a great service . Take your dog there to and very friendly people . Love the old building to . The prices are very good food is wonderful.
While we didn't go on a cafe-crawl in Bishops Waltham we were very pleased at the Anvil. Excellent & atmospheric building, pleasant rear garden. Good service from young personable staff. Fair prices too!
We came in here for a spontaneous lunch and we were blown away! The vegan bourguignon served with rustic mash was incredible.
The atmosphere is very relaxed, it had the feeling of having dinner at a family member's home.
We will certainly come back to try the rest of the menu. If you are in BW, this is the best place to stop for a proper home cooked lunch.
Worth a visit, if just to be served by the beautiful and busy Nicola and hear her lovely Scottish brogue.
Wonderful selection of wines and whisky. Serves, food, beverages and alcohol. Has plenty of seating both inside and out, including a very tranquil courtyard terrace.
Not many people realise, that although the building has the look of a Tudor dynasty dwelling; it is in fact less than 60 years old!!! Designed and built by the owner Fred, it is a remarkable example of British building ingenuity... and testament to his astonishing skills. Ask to see his photo album showcasing the build.
Highly recommended.
🙂👍👍
Another excellent visit to this unique café/restaurant with my Spaniel. The welcome & service was just as friendly as my 1st visit in late march.
The full English breakfast lived up to its very reasonable price point .
Until my next visit, which sadly, might be in a couple of months time.😐..
Came here for a late lunch with my Mum on Christmas Eve. It was magical. A delicious cafe set in a beautiful building. The menu was very extensive and extremely affordable. Service friendly and caring. I also liked the wine and spirit selection on sale. If visiting Bishop's Waltham, this is a must.
Magnificent Chocolate Orange cake to follow a lovely Bacon Sandwich!
Great Decaff Coffee too!
I had lunch for my birthday and it was delicious. Excellent home made food, perfect service, available for gluten free people and dog friendly!!. I recommend to come by. Very nice people!
What a fabulous find! We had a delicious lunch; mum had sausages and mash with veg, I opted for the vegetarian cottage pie and veg, even my dog was given a choice of ham or carrots. Excellent service highly recommended, I look forward to going back when I am in the area.
Had lunch here at Fred's. The ambience is wonderful. So calm, relaxing and happy. My son had chicken ham and leek pie, and i had the fish pie. Both meals were outstandingly good. We didn't really have room for desserts but they were irresistible. We had pear and caramel pie and the one which was full of caramel and mixed nuts. Totally such a special treat for us. Thank you so much. We will be back again soon.
Came across The Anvil as we wandered around Bishops Waltham. Beautiful building, charming staff. Lovely tea and coffee & the best cakes!
Lovely food and staff. Will definitely be going back soon
Very rarely do you find the phrase "Home made" to be anything other than opening a packet and heating the contents. However, at this delightful little cafe our soup was proper cooked from scratch deliciousness. Combined with a choice of coffee roasts served in an individual cafeteria and yo have he perfect spot for a leisurely lunch.
A good tea/coffee stop with good cakes. Great stop for cyclists.
A beautiful cafe with a very welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food! I went there this week with my husband and 20-month-old toddler, and we had a lovely time.
Really enjoy our visit. Was quite busy with people having lovely looking english style meals.
