Fairly local to the Cafe, but had heard so many good things that we decided to try it for Sunday lunch with granddaughter. Blown away! Food brilliant, service first rate, great value. An extensive menu ensures a quick return. Put simply, food that tasted exactly what it was, home cooked. Lots of passing trade, but just as many locals who realise that they have something first rate on their doorstep. Standards are obviously important to the Cafe. The premises were spotless, produce quality high. Top drawer....

An excellent all day breakfast, the sausage is particularly good. Vegetarian friendly lovely to see a Veggie breakfast as standard on the menu. Also a huge selection of gorgeous homemade cake!

Want to thank the 68 cafe staff for the service today, we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea prize from the childrens Easter cooking competition. So attentive even though they were very busy. Really enjoyed it. Thank you.

We stop here every time we visit family nearby. Hot, wholesome food. Baby friendly. Service slick, and although you might wait a little while for food, it's always good quality. Moussaka was (almost) as good as mine.

This gem of a Cafe is located around a mile from my home and I seldom visit, this is about to change. Today I had the best breakfast of my life. The A68 Special Large Breakfast at £11.14p it's was superb. Black pudding, two rashers of bacon, two sausages, two mushrooms, egg, beans and a slice of fried bread and one slice of toast. Cooked perfectly, you could taste the constituent parts and not grease like other places, this is no greasy spoon, and is a roadside restaurant for those in the know. Of which there were many in attendance, regular customers were enjoying everything from toasted sandwiches, to Sunday Dinner piled high, it looked delicious. Never fall into the trap that the A68 Cafe is a regular greasy spoon roadside cafe, it is not, it is a destination for an extensive range of quality food coupled with fantastic service. The counter was covered in an abundant arrange of fresh home baked cakes, at which customers had called into simply to purchase to take them away. The service was cordial, cheerful and quick. Added to the comfortable immaculately clean environment that I had to enjoy my meal, added greatly to the experience. This must be the No 1 roadside cafe in the north of England, never mind County Durham and it deserves all the accolades that it has garnered. The old adage " you only get what you pay for" springs to mind, it was worth every single penny. And I will be back sooner rather than later!

We have just been to the cafe for breakfast on our journey back to the homeland from a week of work in Scottish Scotland where we were supposed to be getting breakfast provided. There was no bacon! The standard breakfast was delicious and the nice lady even gave me extra bacon!! I would definitely recommend you and will return. Thank you very much! 🧡

Personally I found the interior to be a little reminiscent of care home, but I’m a designer so I’m preceptive to these things. The staff are friendly. Nothing wrong with the food. I just feel things could be done with a focus on healthier dishes and local meats etc(perhaps it is already local but that wasn’t highlighted). The chips would be better if made using freshly cut potatoes fried in beef fat, rather than pre cut and frozen catering ones.

I love this place and always go when taking the A68, sometimes making a detour to visit. They have a pretty varied selection of food ranging from the obligatory all-day breakfast to homemade pies and decent vegetarian selection. Homemade cakes and sweet pies if you fancy dessert, all of which are amazing, with the key lime cheesecake being practically a transcendental experience. There is a good-sized car park outside and a beautiful view across the valley, too.

Stopped off for a bite to eat on a business trip as it seemed like a nice place. Glad we did, great food at great prices. Highly recommend the burger, just make sure you have an empty stomach before hand!
