We went here for the first time yesterday. The place looks great and is really clean. The staff are attentive and the food is amazing. We tried the limited edition Re-Born Slippy burger and it was full of flavour and one of the nicest burgers we have had in the UK. Oh and make sure to upgrade your side to the dirty tater tots. Out of this world!
Yummy! Nicely cook burger! The chef definitely know how to cook it right just the way I like it. Medium rare done to perfection. Thick patty. Awesome onion rings too!
For a burger restaurant in central Birmingham I would definitely recommend this place. All burgers include a side where you can have other options than just fries.
The buttermilk fried chicken in the burgers is under seasoned but the portion sizes were decent. However, we went on a Saturday afternoon and it took over 45 minutes to received our food for a table of 5.
First visit, but it won't be my last. It was a spur of the moment visit as I was in Birmingham and decided to grab a bite to eat. Was warmly greeted and seated straight away. The menu is all very enticing, but I went for the white buffalo chicken sandwich, which was epic in its appearance and taste. Well done, everyone, and excellent service from all the waitress staff.
Lovely host, took order promptly. Cheese balls were great and I was enjoying them at my own pace (single customer) and relishing the moment of being in cheese heaven when the waitress then brought over my main course (whilst still eating my starter) so the burger then had to sit there getting cold whilst I finished my starter and then let that digest. I then felt rushed and not relaxed.
Once finishing my starter and then having a 5 minute break I tackled my burger. I ordered the Swiss Tony with a side of coleslaw. I thought that choosing your own side was a great idea. Although it was now luke warm the flavours were amazing.
Was a great start to the experience but was then left to feel rushed and quiet annoyed with the whole process. The restaurant was busy but still had tables left so wasn’t sure why there was such a rush? Possible lack of communication from FOH staff to the chef? The chef just wanting to get it done and out the way?
The food starter was delicious. The burger would have been too if it was served at the correct time and therefore temperature would have been bang on.
Great portion size and value for money. Just a shame about the timings as when I did then want to eat my burger it was luke warm and the cheese had congealed, instead of oozing. I will definitely recommend and come back as the flavours were amazing. I hope next time my burger won’t have to sit there getting cold whilst I order more of those amazing cheese balls.
If you need a dirty burger alongside some dirty snacks, Fat Hippo is the place to be.
It's not much to look at when you go in..... quite small and basic, but the food definitely made up for it!
The fried pickles and tater tots were so moreish and my fried chicken burger was crispy, juicy and more than I could manage.
2nd visit: Managed to get our nom on! Had PB + JJ and Swiss Tony. They are quality burgers and can’t fault them. Really enjoyed the freshly made slaw. The dirty tater tots were just the right side of crispy and the perfect starter. The cheese tasted like liquid beef (not complaining as was tasty, it’s just the first time I’ve tasted cheese like this). The only thing was the beer we got came in room temperature. Not the end of the world - we left with full and happy tummies. Staff were friendly. Would 100% come back again, though hopefully there’ll be toilet paper in the toilet.

1st visit: Went on an evening as we had a hankering for a meaty burger. The service staff were fantastic - repeatedly asked if we had allergies. Whilst we don’t, it was nice that they’re so attentive.
The reason for the low stars wasn’t because we hated it, it’s because we didn’t have any food in the end. When we were about to order, we’re told that we’d have to wait at least half an hour for our food if we ordered, which in my experience usually means 45mins+. Why? Because the kitchen had just received a batch of food orders. There was a big table of 10ish so I was trying to be understanding. If I wasn’t ravenous, we may have opted to stay and had a couple of beers but the hanger was real so we left for another place. We’re thankful to the lady, who proactively told us the situation.
All in all, this place had a nice vibe. The service staff were great. The menu did look pretty immense so better luck next time.
Heard big thing about this from Instagram and saw that they did some good looking burgers. Went to try it out, service was quick to get orders but seemed to take a long time to get drinks my Milkshake came before a bottle of cider which was weird. Burger taste was average compared to most places, milkshake was pure syrup and not great. Tots have good flavour. Place just seems like one for the gram without backing it up with flavour. Good value for money.
Had a vegan burger with the first edible vegan cheese I’ve ever tasted. Absolutely delicious. Got even rarer meat envy from my friend’s PB&J burger. Got a table quickly on a busy Saturday afternoon as well. Definitely returning and recommending.
Absolutely amazing food (as always), and fantastic service from Michael! Super friendly and took lots of time to chat and make sure everything was perfect. This place is worth travelling to - as we have done on many occasions - don’t miss out.
