I've never really heard people talk about this place, but thought might check it out. It is most the time quite empty I don't know why though because the food is lovely! I had their special burger meal and it was quite cheap but a big amount of food for the price. I was pleasantly surprised.
The waiters were polite and attentive. Except one waiter was trying to "flirt" and put his number on the business card and handed it over saying "if you would like to order anyday give me a call". Which is not acceptable as it is not a dating place it is a place to go and eat.
We visited Poncho Khana whilst on a recent trip to Birmingham. Local friends highly recommended this restaurant and we weren't at all disappointed. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. The service was a little slow but this was compensated by the excellent food. We were in a group of 5 and shared the dishes so got a good idea of the different items available on the menu. The signature Naga Roll was delicious but be wary if you don't have a palate for spicy food. My favourite main was the Poncho Khana House Special Biryani. I personally preferred the Indian fare although they have some great tasting gourmet burgers. They have a limited but tasty selection of deserts and serve traditional Indian tea. Overall the dining experience was truly memorable and I will definitely visit again when next in the area.
One of the best Bangladeshi restaurant that offers authentic taste and excellent menu. All the food is halal. This is our go to place to eat bengali food. Highly recommend their beef bhuna, kala bhuna, tarka dal, shutki bhorta, ileesh mas, beef buri and pretty much everything on the menu. Prices are also competitive. Food quality and taste are absolutely fantastic. Their breakfast menu and price of £6.95 is a banger. We havent had better breakfast anywhere else. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of seating and more seating area behind reception which can also be used for events. They have toilet facilities but no baby changing room. They also do sweets and various other bangladeshi savouries which taste good. Next time you are in Birmingham you need to check this place out.
If you found this review helpful then a like would be very appreciated.
Outstanding dining experience!!!
The service is exceptional – attentive and friendly, staff. The staff goes above and beyond to make the dining experience truly memorable. From the moment you walk in, you're treated with genuine warmth and hospitality.
Poncho Khana also provided us with generous portion sizes that were great for the price. If you're looking for a restaurant that excels in both taste and affordability, this is the place to be.
We ordered jalfrezi chicken curry, tandoori platter and fish tikka
As soon as i had my first bite, I felt as if I was in India.
All the dishes were mouthwatering and yummy.
We also got vadas and jamuns which was amazing and it was on the house.
Believe me, just go and don’t have second thoughts.
Service should me mentioned, warm and welcoming service from Thawhid and the whole team.
Will definitely visit soon again with our friends.
Visited this restaurant with an old friend of mine who highly recommended this place to me.
The food was fantastic, the layout is great and spacious. Waiters have manners and are very polite. As an honest reviewer I'd have to say that the waiting time needs improvement to be fair. One has to wait an age for the food to arrive, but when it does, you kind of forget about the wait. They are kind enough to give you a complimentary Gulab Jamun to make up for the waiting time.
Little touches here and there and this could easily be one of the top places to visit if you ever find yourself in the heart of Small Heath, Birmingham.
Visited with Bengali friends last night and it was a real treat!
The service deserves 5 ⭐: The staff are so warm and welcoming, and explained the menu patiently for those of us that didn't know much about Bangla cuisine. They took much care from start to finish checking everything was okay and offered complementary starters and dessert!
We ordered a seekh kebab, butterfly prawns and nargisi kofta in starters and ayre bhuna, fish kofta bhuna, jhingri bhuna and chicken biryani in mains. Both kebabs were so moist and flavourful and the prawns fell a little flat in comparison. The curries were decent overall but the tandoori jhingri bhuna was absolutely delicious and the best dish at the table! Biryani was good too. The portions were generous and the prices fair.
We were offered the Malai sandwich/chom chom sandwich for dessert which tasted okay-ish. However similar to some previous reviews, we also thought it should be advertised as a Bangladeshi restaurant rather than an Indian one going by the menu.
Ambience wise it's a nice space. The place offers a variety of take away dishes and sweets. Finding parking can be a challenge during weekends and busier hours of the day.
Overall a really good find!
Very very authentic and good quality Bangladeshi/Indian/Pakistani food. Extremely reasonably priced, perfectly cooked food. Service was very good as well, welcoming and helpful.
The best authentic Bangladeshi restuant in West Midlands. Deshi style food is the main reason it brings me back again and again.
Every dish is unique and has its own flavour unlike your Indian restaurant which has same base sauce.
The hospitality and service is next to none. Brother Dulal Miah makes all his customers feels welcomed. Has a geniun talk and laugh.
Always looking forward to going back again and again.
Been about 5 times now
A regular at this place due to its friendly staff, warming atmosphere and food is on point too. If anything isn't to liking staff are quick to rectify it, which is reassuring. Thank you Poncho Khana :)
Came with family, brilliant service from start to finish.
Nothing was too much trouble, the staff are ultra friendly.
After we ordered they have us complimentary pakoras while we wait.
Food came in no time at all and was absolutely delicious.
Prices are very reasonable and atmosphere is great.
This is a great place to come if you want authentic bengali food.
They have a vast menu to suit everyone.
Will definitely be back soon!
Also gave us free gulab jamun at the end.
My family and travelled up from London just to eat at Poncho Khana and we were not disappointed! Everything from the delicious food, friendly service and calm atmosphere was well worth the drive!
I really enjoyed the chingri bhuna and my family loved the selection of traditional Bangladeshi fish curries. I highly recommend going on a Friday to try their Jummah special ‘Murog Pulao’ which was absolutely delicious!
They also serve a wide selection of traditional vegetarians dishes and have two seating areas, making it the perfect place to dine with family and friends.
Service was exceptional - we were served by Kamal who was very kind and accommodating, and we also met the owner who was very friendly and welcoming :)
My only negative is I wish they’d advertised this as a Bangladeshi restaurant as oppose to an Indian restaurant. This restaurant celebrates mouth watering Bangladeshi cuisine and it should be advertised as such.
In my opinion, Poncho Khana is the best Bangladeshi restaurant in the UK and my family and I will be back very soon! :)
