Initially I avoided Bilals as they had a poor food hygiene rating but they seem to have got this up to 4 stars. I have purchased Veg Pakora from here on a few occasions and they were lovely. Below you see photos of two Katlamas purchased on different occasions. They are the best I have personally tasted in Alum Rock. The pastry is nice, crisp, not too thick and the meat is flavoured with onions and spices with a little fresh chilli. Took me back to the 90s when I first had a Katlama from Mushtaqs. These are a bargain too at £1.70 and blow sajid shahi out of the water (see my review for them). The shami kebabs are a shambles I’m afraid to say. Haven’t tried the sweets but getting tempted to buy a box. Unfortunately traditional Pakistani food such as shami kebabs, samosa, pakora, katlama, mint sauce is now a dying art but at least the Katlama and Pakora from here is somewhat of a throwback to a different time.

Desi breakfast - Bilal sweets I was yearning a desi breakfast and having exhausted the majority of Birmingham I decided to make my way to Bilal sweets on Alum Rock Road. I was greeted with a friendly smile and the service was super quick. I was out within 4 minutes despite at least 8 other customers present. I was overly impressed by the low price of the breakfast and quickly made my way back to my car (by the way, parking is extremely difficult here). I drove like a man possessed as the aroma of the breakfast in my car was driving me mad! I just could not wait to try it out! This place did not disappoint me the least. In fact, this breakfast was one of the best desi breakfasts I have had in Birmingham, period. The chana (chick peas curry) was in one word: sensational. The spices, the salt level, the lack of oil and the perfectly cooked chana was truly stupendous. 9.8/10. The halwa was equally as good. Again I was impressed by the lack of grease. The taste was amazing, not too sweet and not too bland - just spot on. The only negative I would say was that they could include sultanas and coconut (as is the case with conventional halwa). 8.5/10. The puri's were fluffy, thin and absolutely colossal. Unfortunately they were overly greasy but it is impossible to get a puri without grease. The taste made up for all this and quite frankly I was more than satisfied! 8/10. The combination of puri with chana was just mouthwatering and truly satisfying. The halwa too was enjoyable with the puri but in all honesty I ate 90% of the halwa with a teaspoon. Lastly, this meal is a massive portion and 2 adults can easily share 1 meal! Thefoodsheikh says: I highly highly recommend this establishment if you are after a proper traditional Pakistani breakfast! @thefoodsheikh #thefoodsheikh #bilalsweets #desi #desibreakfast #halalbreakfast #halaldesi #halaldesibreakfast #halal #sweets #sweet

Great experience with Bilal sweet. We had 11 boxes of sweet for my New born son's celebration. Sweets were tase fresh Berfii , Gulab jamin , small and big Ras gulla. Packing looks nice , well presented boxes. They were frying fresh Pakora so we give go ahead to taste and have positive feed back nice parora as well. The location is well known on Alum Rock Road opposite to Akram Jeweler Near the Mini Roundabout. The Guy who serve us was very polite and gave us good suggestions to choose. Next time we will try their Breakfast Halwa puri and chick peas.
