Posh nosh par excellence!. Went for an early dinner pre-Symphony Hall the day after Boxing Day and chose the City Cafe because it was one of the few places open early enough on this bank holiday.
Though empty and a bit chilly, probably due to the fact we were first in and it was sub-zero outside, the service and food here is so, so good, and made slightly more affordable by the special two or three course meals for not all that much money.
Very nice indeed, will definitely go back when we're not such in a rush to get to a concert. I don't think we've ever had such good service, anywhere.
Service was a little slow in the restaurant. Food and drink on the pricier side but it was good quality and tasted great. We would consider visiting again.
A nicely designed posh interior to this modern continental restaurant part of the Holiday Inn hotel. A good breadth of options, we went for the afternoon tea. It was a basic afternoon tea then those you typically expect from a hotel but was wonderfully presented. The scone was warm. There were only 3 finger sandwiches and we weren't offered refills. The egg mayonnaise was delicious though! The cakes were ones that are from a posh factory bought set, but were nice enough. Mini Carrot and walnut, victoria sponge and a chocolate eclair.
Lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff. I did like the afternoon tea overall but somewhat disappointed in the selection offered, enjoyed the scone and little chocolate cake. But more small sandwiches could have been provided, slightly suprised at the fact so few we're given (3 slim cuts each). But as I said nice scones and little petite chocolate cake. Cream cake was ok to, we both left the cinnomon cakes just due to personal tastes.
I would come back here but to try something from the lunch menu, not for the afternoon tea. 4 stars for the atmosphere, lovely coffee and welcoming staff.
The bar manager is a master of cocktails and puts enormous effort into crafting classics and his own riffs.
Great food and service in a quiet environment. The fish and chips portion is very generous and it comes with different dips. Overall, it's slightly more expensive than other places around, but the quieter atmosphere and the large portions made up for it.
Nice fish and chips with lovely crispy batter, portion was a bit on the small size though.
Four of us went here Saturday evening for some food.
What a fantastic place! Staff are so so friendly! Even after you could tell she had a long day was still happy to go above and beyond!
Food was good, and the place was really really clean!
Thank you!
Excellent value for money, shared a twin room. Very clean although carpet could do with a stain remover on it.
Excellent breakfast, good choice, friendly and polite staff.
Close to city centre and the arena for a concert we attended.
TAG Network Midlands Limited.. aka Denise Morris... was celebrating the 9th Birthday... what an amazing achievement... and therefore had to choose an amazing location... and the Garden Inn Birmingham did live up to it's great reputation... Brilliant...
Visited with a Groupon for afternoon tea. Our waitress was amazing really helped us with a problem we had and let us have the afternoon tea in the bar area when we asked. I can’t complement her more (I didn’t catch her name, but it was 2pm on 31st May in case her manager is reading this)
I would agree there could have been a couple more sandwiches but the quality was good, the scones very fresh and small cakes were great. Having unlimited tea and coffee was terrific as there was a wide selection for each or even hot chocolate. The decor and vibe was fantastic.I would definitely recommend a visit
Came for a quick lunch while in Birmingham with work.
I only wanted something quick so i went for the soup. Service was a little snooty, and I got some is that all your ordering looks, but was essentially very good.
The soup was pretty nice, though i've had much better for much less. Bread was nice but the butter came straight out of the freezer, it seems.
About as pricey as you would expect for a Hilton Hotel.
Excellent service. Made a lovely decorative table for my partner's birthday and the afternoon tea was delicious. Super friendly staff, highly recommend
I and my friend enjoy the afternoon tea a lot. The scone, cakes and sandwiches were all good and quite filling even when we haven't had lunch. A great hang out place in Birmingham
Really good food in a pleasant modern dining area. Extremely good value set menu (£19.99) but a la carte prices not bad. Char grilled Bavette of beef was succulent inside with a flavoursome crust. Puts similarly priced chains to shame.
Service was pretty good. The only downside of our visit was the absence of other diners, which meant the restaurant lacked a bit of atmosphere.
Get in there before everybody else finds out what a bargain this place is.
Loved the environment, the server in the bar was really nice, I believe his name is Mohammed. Would give him 5 stars for his service. Will visit this place again next month when I visit Birmingham again.
Great restaurant in a vibrant location. We had afternoon tea which was lovely. Unlimited drinks refills. Staff were really friendly.
