With the Blue Light card you can get 10% off your bill - that covers the service charge.
Expect a little surprise if you’re eating in as it’s added on when you pay and your £4.99 is suddenly more. It does clearly say this on the menu but it’s not something you’d pay attention to until you get to the point of paying.
The food was nice. I did notice the larger takeaway box sizes that other customers had. I might do that next time and save myself a 10% too.
It’s nice a clean.
A sweet sea fish service. I can think of many food establishments that should offer good service, but don’t. Service at the chip shop? I don’t expect there to be much over and above the cursory welcome. Well Tasty Plaice does service surprisingly well. The friendly member of staff on the front door offered me fried food samples. They were good enough to entice me inside where a keen eyed member of staff addressed me.
“Sir, can I help you?” She said. I was somewhat taken aback by the respectful welcome. I looked at the clearly laid out board and reeled off my order. The staff member asked if I wanted to eat in? If so, there would be a small surcharge, but my food would be delivered to a spare table of my choosing.
The comfy beach seats were taken, the quality wooden pews allowed me to rest my heavy seat. The food arrived promptly and piping hot.
The chips were special, fried in a light batter to add crunch and a golden sheen to their exterior. The mushy peas flowed from the small carton into the corner of the tray. Non of this congealed rubbish you can get at some chippys. I loved the soft haddock and had my fill for the small sum of £7.
I can’t recommend Tasty Plaice enough. It’s a plaice where the special seafood service shines (apologies for the bad play on words and over use of alliteration).
Fresh cod and crispy fluffy chip (egg battered?!). Very polite service. Clean and tidy shop. Will definitely return.
BEST fish and chips I've tasted yet in Birmingham. The fish was huge and in delicious batter, the chips are lightly battered which was so good. The staff are great and it's very clean place to eat. Reasonable price and cheaper than other chippies.
Prepared the food quickly, fish had crispy batter and was nice and flakey underneath, the chips were great too. If you're looking for a crunch, try it out! But pricey but can't complain too much given the great location :P
Fresh hot fish and chips with curry sauce in a box. I think there needs to be more tables and seats inside as it was busy when we arrived.
The best fish and chips I've had. Oh and the staff are so lovely.
Best fish and chips in town! I crave this all the time especially the fish & chips and gravy! Love it.
One of the best fish and chip meals I have had in a very long time. Good service and very fresh. The chips were perfect and loved the veggie battered sausage. Highly highly recommend and hope to become a regular
Absolute best chips I have ever eaten. The light batter makes a delicious difference.
The scampi was a treat too.
The staff were very friendly.
It is worth a trip to Birmingham just to eat there.
The best fish and chips I have ever had. No exaggeration. The mushy peas were also the best I have tasted. Service was so quick and efficient and it was very inexpensive. If I lived local, I would come here all the time. I had haddock and chips with mushy peas. They asked me if I wanted salt and vinegar and added the perfect amount. Excellent.
By far one the best fish and chip shops I’ve been to and possibly the best place to eat in grand central!!
The food here is so tasty especially the curry sauce. Portions are very filling and price isn’t bad. Wish there were more seating options as when it gets busy it’s hard to sit but otherwise lovely staff and food!
I was in Birmingham for work and needed a quick dinner before my train back home. There was a lovely girl outside handing out samples and was helpful and told me prices when I asked.
I had the cod and chips with curry sauce. The cod was perfect! And it was nice to try the "battered chips" (making the chips crispy outside). It was good value for money and the portion sizes were big- the staff were helpful too and closed up my box and gave me a carrier bag so I could take what I couldn't finish back with me on the train!
Relatively decent and as the name suggests tasty, they have one in merry hill too. The cod and chips are second to none added with the curry sauce and drinks which comes with the meals at a very reasonable price. Portions are generous for the price.
It's hard to find a good fish and chip shop this far from the coast, but Tasty Plaice is really great.
The staff are lovely, their food is sublime (I recommend the battered halloumi and chips), and it's really easy to get to if you're passing through New Street station or the city centre.
The only downside is a few of their meals are a little pricey, but it's arguably worth it considering the quality of the food.
A great bit of fish n chips in the heart of Birmingham's Grand Central Mall...
Staff always friendly and always busy.
Clean, crisp and comfortable.
A lovely place to eat.
The haddock and chips is Excellent !!!
Keep up the good work, Birmingham loves you lot 👍🏻
Best chip shop I've been to in ages! Saw the adverts and finally stumbled across it in Grand Central. Fish and chips were lovely, you can choose from cod, haddock or plaice (we had the cod) a side of curry sauce or mushy peas. I shared a portion with my daughter and it was sufficient. The fish reminded me of a fish shop in Devon, cooked to perfection! The chips were gorgeous, witj a slight batter and slight sweetness. Staff were welcoming and friendly. I'm planning to take a friend to share the joy next time. The food didn't wait for a photo, sorry!
