What’s not to like about Yo! Sushi? It’s got plates of food moving around on conveyor belts, an open kitchen so you can see the food being prepared, lots of yummy Japanese tastes to experiment with, choices galore, and didn’t I just say it’s got FOOD ON A CONVEYOR BELT!
I’ve written twice about Yo! Sushi before, still I can’t help share some visual proof of the mega £60 (sharing with a friend) lunch I had at their Selfridges outlet in Birmingham which is situated in their lower level “food court” area and has a very busy yet open feel to it.
A little warning though, it’s easy to get carried away at Yo! Sushi and ignore the plates piling up on the table as one of the drawbacks of scrumptious food revolving at hands length is that sometimes – more likely every time – it’s hard to resist.
My suggestion – unless money is not an issue – is that you set yourself a spending budget and try to keep a track of all the coloured plates – The dishes are priced as per the colour of the plates and range from £2.15 to £8.50. You could also carry a pen and paper, although I’ve never seen anyone do that, and I certainly haven’t.
Did you know: Some plates have a time (not date) printed on them. That’s the time when the food, if not picked up by a customer till then, will be removed from the conveyor belt as it has been out for “too long”. Fresh food at its best!
I’m not going to go into details of what I had and how it was because most of it, including the Sprite like tasting Banta/marble bottled Japanese drink called Ramune Soda, was excellent, fresh, and a celebration of Eastern flavours, not to forget that the Sushi was one of the best I’ve had at this cost.
Their Temaki (Hand Rolls), Sashimi, Yatai (street food) and Yakisoba, all of which are available with different ingredients are a must and equally available for vegetarians as they are for non-vegetarians – however, the choices are a lot more exquisite if you eat fish and meat.
Move back now… Here comes the sushi train

Yo Sushi! Undoubtedly one of my favourite restaurants ever. No fuss, quality food, fresh ingredients and decently priced. All you are looking for after a long day at work or shopping around the bull ring. The place is always crowded which is something that speaks for itself. The staff seem well trained and quick for I have never had a complaint! Even if you don't pick up dishes off the conveyor belt and place your order off the menu, the wait is not too long- such a PLUS! Love to couple up my sushi with ice-cold sake and wrap up with a custard dorayaki or two..as dessert. Absolutely adore the place..highly recommended!
Nice sushi restaurant to stop by if you are Shopping in Bullring or just hanging around. Sushi and other japanese or chinese stuff are categorized in different colours and priced according to these colours. You can either choose from the conveyor belt or order from the menu. The prices are average. Worth to try...
I absolutely LOVE Yo!Sushi!!!! It's my favorite place to go for lunch whenever in the city, although it can get expensive, if you keep tabs on how much you're spending (i use the app for it) then Yo!Sushi can be an amazing place. The atmosphere is buzzing with shoppers and happy smiley waiters and kitchen staff. Everyone there is really friendly and make sure you have a drink and have enjoyed your meal. The people are wonderful and the conveyor belt is so much fun compared to just ordering! It's not just a restaurant, it's an eating experience! 9/10 - loses a mark because it can get expensive, but it is really worth it!
Yay sushi!. I sometimes eat here when shopping in Brum. The food is pretty good, but you have to keep tabs on what you eat, otherwise it will start to get expensive.
There's a huge variety of dishes available, from sashimi to cooked tempura.
8/10
Great place to try sushi for the first time! Can get very busy at lunchtime and weekends. Be careful you don't get carried away and spend more than you intended to. The best dishes are the most expensive!
came yesterday with my mom for a quick lunch and it was really good; the food was absolutely delicious and quick to arrive. the waitress which was serving us had purple and black hair, she was absolutely lovely and so friendly, she answered each question we had with a smile (it was our first time) . even though the food is a bit pricey i do think its worth it would recommend the chicken yakitori!
My best place in birmingham to have a delicious sushi ever♥️♥️♥️🥹
We went to Yo sushi yesterday (11/4/22) which was very busy! The food was amazing as always however service and help from staff was slow which reflects on the 4 star rating! I usually order on my phone however it wouldn’t accept my 20% blue light discount so I ordered through a waiter.
Overall the experience was good, the food was once again amazing!!
Our waiter Jose was incredible ! He made our entire stay infinitely more enjoyable! He was very patient and helpfully even though we were a bit rowdy. 11/10 for the staff!!! The food is delicious but the portions were more on the small size.
Helpful staff, lovely atmosphere and great concept. Easy to order and delicious food. Just wish the portions were larger!
The restaurant has adopted a new and effective layout for covid prevention, which runs smoothly. The staff were attentive and kind, however the sushi is pricey.
Nice staff, good food. What's not to like.
Just been to the Sushi School experience here and it was amazing! Our instructor was friendly, enthusiastic and full of character. The whole experience was interesting and great fun. The other staff were helpful too. Highly recommend and great value. We have full bellies and a bag full of sushi to take home 🙂
A great place to eat for a relaxed bite with quick service. Food can be a bit pricey in total but the quality is generally good. The new street food menu is great - worth a visit.
Good place to try sushi. Not extraordinary but does the job. The wasabi is not very strong but I give you a tip: request the "to go wasabi" which is much stronger.
First time dining in today. Came as I needed to work on some coding error on a software update and needed to fuel my body.
Staff was courteous and very keen on tidiness. Customer satisfaction was great.

Good sushi, not as good as the Yo in Cardiff, but still nice. Chicken katsu was underwhelming, but the salmon sushi and Korean chicken were both lovely.
Me and my boyfriend love this location and come on a regular basis. But this visit was 100% the best food yet. It was so fresh and tasty! Thank you Mr Chef. You were very busy because of the commonwealth, but you took it in your stride and smashed our expectations once again :) Thank you for a great meal and we will see you again soon!

Fresh and tasty sushi but very expensive
Came here once with a friend and we spent about 40 pounds per person and we were still a bit hungry afterwards. It tastes good but I think its kind of expensive for that it is. The service is good and overall has nice location and atmosphere. I don't know if I would go again but it was a cool experience.
