Decent M&B pub, however you would not know it is M&B, as little advertised. Cosy and clean, decent clientele, far enough away from the drunken yobs that brum attracts. Four in attendance eating fairly average food. Burger and fries are about £10.25, and meat feast pizza was £10, Steak and chips were about £12-£14. All ok, though, nothing mega exciting. Drinks are expensive, as are everywhere, avg £6 pint now. Easy access from train station. Nice cosy pub, nice seating inside and out. Marketing the M&B app would have been beneficial, either by a notice or verbally, as there are food discount offers on the app. Better than most venues, will defo visit again with friends or family, so a healthy 4. Thanks all at the Royal Oak.
Great pub and everyone in there was very friendly! For less than 9 pounds I had a beer and the jerk chicken wrap with chips and coleslaw which was lovely. I would definitely recommend to anyone that is in the area or works in the financial area of Birmingham because the service was very fast as well.
First time visitor to The Old Royal tonight around 10pm, quite a late visit for me but on finishing work thought would pop in for a drink and a bite to eat. Little tucked away in Birmingham, but close to Colmore row and worth a venture across pay a visit.
Atmosphere - good music choice, and happy crowd, just fine for a Saturday night. Sport on the TVs and well lit. No problem finding a table to sit at.
Ordering - Used the QR code at the table to order. Drink came quickly with no problems at all on the service side. Noted no number on the table to order to, so used one from an adjacent table. Could do with this being checked to make easier in future.
Staff - Welcoming, friendly and polite. Proactively came to tell me the food would not be available as kitchen closed when spotted looking at the menu, rather than leave me to find out when came to order. Can't fault her service at all.
Point to note on the tables - did need to grab menu from another table as one on mine was stuck together with what think was vinegar.
Visited the toilets, generally quite clean. But noted randomly there was some pants left hanging up in the gents cubicle! No impact on score as could have just been left there. Little difficult to wash hands as the tap only runs for 3 seconds at a time, ideally could do with a bit longer.
Conclusion: Happily revisit. Few minor things above sorted would make it a 5* so hopefully take on constructively as its a nice place.
The 14 0z Gammon was cooked to perfection absolutely delicious really enjoyed the meal.
Also the manager happily added on a grilled tomato for me when requested after I had ordered the meal.
Great food, brilliant service and excellent atmosphere.
This pub is very well run and a bit of a hidden gem in Birmingham city center.
Hats off to the chef fazel and dave the manager who served me, much appreciated and thanks for a fantastic meal!
Just a standard pub to have a pint, nice ambient in background. However this is during early hours.
Been a while since I've been to this place ,(I live in Bangkok these days)it's a great pub, please do try it. Staff are very nice too.Good selection of beers too.
New Year’s Eve drink, this place was brilliant nice a quiet and out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the city. Beer was average and wasn’t amazing and a little lifeless on the bubbles. Decor was brilliant and someone had spend some money.
Compared to pre refurb, I love the new decor and furnishings. The layout is great and much more spacious. Windows still don’t close in the downstairs ladies, so potentially still the coldest toilets in Brum. Raised with the manager and he has said he would remedy. New items in the menu and the same friendly staff.
Nice pub near the Temple area. Asahi on draught was a bonus. Would recommend 👌
