Reviews La Plancha Spanish Tapas & Cocktail Bar

La Plancha nestles neatly in amongst the other restaurants and bars on Moseley’s high street. We arrived shortly after it opened and were ushered on to the last remaining table. It’s all dark wood and low lighting – romantic, perhaps, under different circumstances. We browse over a menu that has seen better days and plump for a selection of dishes to nourish the soul which my friend Greg will eventually pick up the bill for. We order two glasses of good red and toast the passing of a great lady. Others were making the most of the cocktail happy hour. For us it wasn’t that kind of night.

Good points and bad. OK, in no particular order.
Freezing in winter as there is no heating other than a fan over the entrance door.
Tapas is tasty but very expensive (anyone who has been to Spain will agree) and I have seen staff buying the bread from Sainsbury's Local opposite!
Excellent cocktails and the draught beers are well kept.
The owner is very gregarious.
The two long serving bar staff, hmmmmm. The pretty girl is miserable and moody. I have never seen her smile. The aloof male is, well, very aloof.
Good atmosphere in what can become a tightly packed bar.

Moseley benefits from this bar and it is worth a visit. I do feel the tapas is over priced and the bar staff need to improve their customer service techniques. If you want much better food (again not cheap) head to Byzantium in Kings Heath.
Overall 7 out of 10.

The Best Tapas outside of Spain. I am from Madrid and I have to say that La Plancha is the best Spanish restaurant that I have been to outside of Spain and I have eaten in a good few outside of my country. The food is authentic and the staffs are very friendly. The place is cosy and great for a romantic night or a night with friends to celebrate. The prawns in garlic are excellent and so are the lomo. I highly recommend La Plancha. The owner Carmel is a very pleasant person and I would say the hostess with the mostess. I will be defiantly be going back and I will taken my family when they come this summer.

Tasty food and good selection of drinks - especially cocktails. Was fairly quiet for a Friday night, but that might have been because it was a week after Mother's Day and before pay day! I don't think the menu has changed in years, but there's plenty to choose from and the quality remains high. Knocked off a star as they claimed that we hadn't turned up with OpenTable, which I had to correct. On the plus side, being able to book online now is an improvement.

This is a good tapas restaurant. Very busy Friday evening but good service. The food was well cooked and portions very big. We liked the prawns and the lamb. Wine list was okay

La Plancha is the best place to dine or have a relaxing cocktail in Moseley. The service is incredible and the food is amazing and authentic. When we came here, Aaliyah was absolutely incredible with the customer service, and in this restaurant I felt at home. Thank you ❤️❤️

We had a meal on Thursday evening. Ordered the calamari, chorizo tortilla, lamb kofta and the patatas bravas. We were surprised by how quickly the food arrived provided that the restaurant was fairly busy. Our favourite dish was the lamb kofta, I highly recommend it. Service was quick and efficient and the prices are reasonable. La Plancha is definitely worth trying if you are in Mosley.

Great place in Moseley if you like tapas. The food is amazing . I would have given 5 stars but the last time we went we were asked to pick everything we wanted at once because they were closing earlier. But will be back again.

Great food, not cheap but well worth it. Welcoming ambience, but try and get a table downstairs as the atmosphere is better and much cosier than the somewhat cold upstairs. King prawns and paella are a must. Staff are friendly and attentive, and good with little ones. Overall highly recommended.

First visit to La Plancha and will definitely be back. They have a fairly traditional selection of tapas dishes in the standard menu, plus a variety of specials to choose from. We had some excellent chorizo in cider, baked goats cheese, hot honey prawns, anchovies, meatballs, pork loin and paella. Nice small wine list at very reasonable prices. Cocktails looks good, but we didn't try. Excellent value

A welcoming and romantic restaurant, great for couples habit they do cater to groups. Their tapas is one of the best I've had so far and their portion sizes are decent (the two of us had five dishes between us), each one tasted amazing We had garlic bread topped with mushrooms, calamari, scallops, chorizo in red wine and chorizo mixed with rice I believe While we were eating we agreed to visit here again, we were recommended to eat here by a friend and we don't regret it!

What an amazing experience, it was raining heavily and even though the restaurant was closed the really lovely tall gentleman ushered us in and let us in for an hour until 5pm. Best tapas ever. Give it a try if you haven't. Lovely atmosphere and great customer service x
