Perfection, that’s what I seek when I pay over £100 for a fine dining experience. The food at Maribel is arguably some of the finest examples I have had the pleasure of sampling in the West Midlands (set alongside the fine establishments such as Adams and Simpson’s).
The pairing of lamb and a smoked hollandaise sauce was sublime. The fruity rice based pudding was not easy on the eye. However, its creamy texture and tangy notes made it more-ish. Maribel even added drama to the courses with the unveiling of dried ice fumes in the starter.
The interior is bright, modern, with a relaxed view of the square outside.
So why isn’t Maribel 5 star material, one word, service. The descriptions of the dishes lacked a depth, story, connection for me to play with to be completely immersed in the culinary experience. The staff were lovely, kind and warm, but they need to connect with the food. Make me love what I see before I taste it.
We've read some good reviews about Maribel so we've decided to try it for ourselves.
We went for dinner and he chose the six course tasting menu.
We enjoyed every course plus the canapes.
Every dish was excellent and the service was outstanding.
We were impressed by the whole experience.
Thank you everyone at Maribel for the experience. We will definitely come back.
Absolutely brilliant! We've got a new candidate for a Michelin Star in the city! Edmunds (previously in this location) was our favourite restaurant in Birmingham since the moment we've moved to the city. We loved the food but also the service and management. It was a really nice fine dining experience. But at the same time it was a bit obvious and predictable. Guys in charge decided to level up their game. They hired a new Chef, refurbished the interior, they reinvented the place completely. It was a risky move but I think it was worth it! Maribel is amazing! All the good stuff from Edmunds, such as perfect service, friendly and welcoming staff, professional knowledge, is still there. On top of that, they have a top rank chef now, who's menu is exquisite. You can see great experience in preparation, taste pairings and presentation of all the exciting dishes. Everything we've tasted (12 dishes tasting menu!) was amazing and full of flavour. Even the dishes I wouldn't normally go for (squab pigeon) were a positive surprise. Wine pairing from Gonçalo - perfect as usual. Excellent fine dining experience! I would definitely recommend for a special occasion or a romantic night out. I'm sure we will be back again and again!
Faultless. The ambiance, service and the food.
We ate off the three course menu (£35) and the procession of amuse bouches and courses were each a voyage of discovery and a delight to the tast buds. Finished with an espresso, again perfect, which was a great way to wind up the afternoon.
I look forward to returning.
I've fulfilled my wish and returned. Mirabrel have again wowed is with dfish after dish of utterly delicious food. Everything prepared to perfection and likewise delivered to the table.
Apologies, my enthusiasm overwhelmed my efforts to record each dish, so a couple are missing.
Looking forward to the next visit.
I had the menu tasting celebrating my friends graduation and it was all wonderful mainly the service provided by Mariana, always explaining what the plate contained and always being very helpful! Loved the experience might come back with more friends.
Excellent tasting menu, varied and perfectly executed. Relaxed but attentive service, not pretentious in the slightest. Highly recommended.
Absolutely beautiful food at this restaurant. We went for the 3 course dinner option and it was more than exceptional. They catered for my gluten free and dairy free dietary requirements with finesse which I really appreciate. I see good things to come for this new restaurant in Birmingham. All the best!
The perfect way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our first date.
Our first visit to Maribel and it won't be our last, after what was a great experience. We had the 6 course tasting menu - beautifully balanced courses, delightfully presented, delivering a variety of flavours, colours and textures. It was delicious!!!
The staff were very welcoming, attentive during service, prepared to answer questions about the food and talk about their personal work experience.
The size of the restaurant and its sophisticated modern decor create an ambience in which is it a delight to dine. Thank you
Upmarket restaurant in Brindley Place (used to be Edmunds restaurant previously). Sleek modern interior is small but comfortably laid out. Staff are attentive and meticulous in their service. We had a taster menu which I thought was six courses but seemed to be more like eight. Portions are not big so perhaps I mistook an amuse bouche for a course. Either way I was full by the end. The food really is the star of the show as it should be. Beautifully presented and described for us by the waiters. Everything looks carefully crafted to fit the dish and it is all a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.
I don't eat like this often given the price tag, but it felt like a menu that drew on traditional European cooking with some Asian influences rather than anything too wacky. Courses were based on vegetables, soup, smoked pork, roasted lamb and fish and there was no sign of foam, mist or 'boil in the bag' trendiness. Chef seemed to like fairly thin gravies and sauces but they were flavoursome and not intense like some jus can be.
We went midweek and it wasn't too busy so I would say ideal for a celebration meal if you enjoy quiet dining and good service.
Loved the food, although that doesn't quite describe it. The flavours were amazing and the presentation for each dish was a bit of a wow. The staff were all attentive without being overbearing. This place is a little gem
