My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Damascena. The coffee was rich and flavorful, and the hummus was absolutely delicious. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made our visit even more enjoyable. We'll definitely be returning soon!
Lovely place to have a bite to eat when visiting Birmingham. The atmosphere is calm and Arabian. We had the Lamb and Beef shawarma, turkish coffee, Jus Mush and the one that is like pizza. All the food was above average, however, if you like quantity, their servings are a little small. However, even though we like to eat a lot, we wanted something light for breakfast so this was perfect. Food is authentic and lovely. Definitely recommended đź’Ż
Mine and my husband’s favourite cosy spot. The food, the ambience, the decor, everything is perfect. We love coming here. Our favourite thing to get on the menu is the Shawarma Arabiya and the Lemon Zest Chicken baguette, it’s a must try if you visit.
Perfect spot to go with small group of family/friends or couples. 10/10 highly recommend
I'd not been to a Damascena before, so was delighted with my experience today. Asking a busy cafe/restaurant for a table for 1 at 12:15 often results in an eye-roll and begrudging sacrifice of a table for 2 and the resulting lost revenue & tips. Not here! I was immediately offered a table by the window overlooking the cathedral square by a warm and welcoming host.
My order of a chicken shawarma wrap and a side of hummus was accompanied by a zingy ginger/orange/carrot juice. There was a fair wait for the food, which was fine by me as I had an afternoon to kill whilst waiting for my partner to conduct business in the city.
The food was delicious, authentic and beautifully presented with a garnish of various pickles, which should do wonders for my gut microbiome.
I topped lunch off with a pastel de nata and a black coffee, both rich and satisfying, and allowed for an extended period of laptoping. After another hour, I thought I'd pay for my table space by ordering a selection of Baclava-style sweet treats and a peppermint tea.
All in all, I can say that I've rarely arrived in a new city, found a comfortable spot with a view, been fed as and when needed, and got my head down to some semi-serious business. Well done Damascena team, you've made a life-long friend and supporter.
This place is really good.
We just popped in for a coffee, which was excellent, and found ourselves tempted by a plate of assorted havla (6 pcs for ÂŁ4.95) it was surprisingly good. Not over-sweet, crunchy and full of flavour.
I need to return for more, and to try the delicious looking flatbread based options.
I returned and had a meal. Sadly the food was quite bland.
Beautiful place, unique ambience and scrumptious Lebanese food! Moustafa and his team were amazing in giving us recommendations and ensuring a lovely vegetarian meal.
We only had quick breakfast, waited quite long to get the food tho. Nice omelette, the mint tea was refreshing. Lovely atmosphere. Sitting inside is better than outside. All halal đź‘Ť
If we visit Birmingham again, we would come back to try other dishes especially shawarma & the afters!
I tell everyone that is going to Birmingham to go to Damascena. I've been so many many times and always come back. The food is absolutely fantastic, and it is one of the few affordable places left to eat. The decor really makes this restaurant stand out. A great selection on the menu and the portion sizes are massive. It'll always fill you up. 10/10. Always has lots of customers.
First time visiting. The service was fast and staff were friendly. Decor was very pretty and it was all clean.
We had eggs on flatbread with optional salmon and egg on avocado with optional salmon. The flatbread itself was delicious, the eggs were cooked well. The avocado on toast portion was particularly small, not much avocado.
The karak tea had a lot of powder congealed at the bottom of the cup which was disappointing. It was a little underwhelming. We had a pot of normal tea to share after and that was much nicer (and better value)
The fresh Syrian baklava was amazing!!! Each piece was different and unique and beautifully presented.
We stayed for about 90 mins and the restaurant was filling up rapidly around us. We never felt rushed and staff were polite and friendly at all times. When we left, every seat was full and there were people queuing waiting which shows this place must be super popular , which is nice.
I would go back and maybe try a wrap or something rather than breakfast.
