Akram's is a Birmingham institution. They've been at the same location on in Stirchley for as long as I can remember. Akram's is a "family run restaurant offering only the best in traditional Kashmiri cuisine." They have an extensive menu to chose from so everyone should find something to eat. There were about 10 of us at the table so we kind of broke off in to factions. The 5 at my end of the table decided to share a large naan. This wasn't as big as the legendary Birmingham table naans but as you can see it was still huge. Fresh flatbread stuffed with flavoursome spiced lamb mince. I could probably have eaten that on my own with a bit of sauce to dip it in. My friends around me started picking their mains while I was still making up my mind. I remembered what I'd been told by a friend of mine - "You can always recreate the sauced dishes at home but how many of us have a tandoor in our house?" With that, I chose the Akram's Tandoori Speciality, or Mixed Grill. It took a little longer for mine to come to the table than it did for the others but it was absolutely worth the wait. The plate was sizzling hot when it was put down in front of me. Not only was it hot, but it was also very spicy. I loved it. There was sheek kebab, tikka lamb and chicken and tandoori lamb chops and chicken. This was all sat on top of onions and peppers which soaked in the juices from the meat above it. I would not hesitate to order this again. Next time though, I'd make sure that there was some bread left by the time the dish got to the table!

We went on a Thursday evening and it was buzzing! Nevertheless the staff were attentive, despite the big groups. We went straight into the mains but our orders arrived quickly. I would say my butter chicken was more like a Korma, but still really nice! The garlic naan also had more garlic in it that I've ever seen in my life!;) Happy to go back:) Don't forget-take your own booze!

This is a lovely Indian restaurant and I think that it is well worth a visit. It is very roomy inside and so I think that it is ideal to come here if you want to celebrate someone's birthday or a special occasion. The staff were really friendly and very welcoming when I went in with my friend. The menu had all the usual Indian dishes on, but it did include some specials. I settled on a Prawn Biryani in the end with a peshwari naan and some plain rice. It did not take long to be ready and whilst we waited we had poppadoms, which were great. When our main meals arrived, we were pleased to see that the portion sizes were very generous and the naans looked amazing! The food was delicious and really tasty. We had such a lovely evening and we will definitely be returning. I really recommend it.

Akrams is a beautiful and spacious restaurant with a lot to offer and in my opinion, beats the rest of the curry house and Indian restaurants along the Stirchley strip hands down! They can cater to parties of many members as I went there with a group of twelve girls including myself. I found that they handled our table very well considering how many of us there were, I also found that my party were all able to eat together rather than having that inconvenience of waiting on one more meal. The naan breads were the highlight of my night, as my medium naan, which I thought would have been of an average sized naan, however was the size of half of my bedroom radiator! It was absolutely huge to my surprise, which is a great aspect to any restaurant... Expecting the least and being delivered great quality. I absolutely loved my experience at Akrams and would definitely be going again soon!

Akram's Kashmiri resturant is 'THE BEST' Kashmiri/ Indian cuisine we have had!!!! The food cannot be faulted it is great, the portions are generouse and the décor is fitting. The staff are all very friendly and are always happy to help - even if you need your curry altered they are ahppy to do so, which has happened to me once. There is nothing bad I have to say about this place other than that I now live too far from it to vist as frequently as I used to :0( Actually every time we go anywhere else we alway regret not going to Akrams!! The ersturant is kept impecably and to a high standard I would certainly recommend this resturant and you cant give the peshawri nan a miss. Be warned they get very busy at the weekend so best book before you go !!! Perhaps time to expand? Definaely go and try it you'll love it

By far one of the best curry houses in this area. The food is delicious and the service couldn't be more friendly. Unlike many curry houses the portions are a good size and never too expensive! The atmosphere in this restaurant is unique down to the decor and overall relaxed service. I truly rate this restaurant highly and would advise anyone passing through the area to stop for a meal. Family friendly and also teen friendly, unlike some restaurants they dont take advantage of a group of teens celebrating a birthday etc by over charging they treat every customer fairly!

We went to Akrams on a recommendation and were not disappointed. My 2 companions were late, so when I arrived I enjoyed a frexh popadom and various pickles etc. while looking at the extensive menu. I chose a starter of Prawn Puree and it was delicious. The prawns were hot and juicy, tha sauce tangy and sweet with a hint of chilli heat, and the fried bread crispy. My companions finally arrived an hour late, so they decided not to bother with starters but went straight to the main courses. They both plumped for the balti chicken jalfrezi and the empty dishes at the end were a testament to a well prepated dish. The bombay aloo and nan breads that accompanied their meal were also well received. When ordering the waiter did ask if they would like their jalfrezi medium or hot, and they both decided on medium. Afterwards one confessed that he probably should have asked for hot as the medium was not quite spicy enough. I decided on the Akram Special Biriani and was presented with a huge plate of golden rice and large chunks of chicken, lamb, prawns and vegetables in a mildly spiced vegetable curry sauce. Perhaps unwisely, I'd asked for a garlic nan to accomany this feast and the inevitable result is that I couldn't finish either of the dishes! The service throughout was quick polite and professional, with the water jug being refilled contantly without us having to ask. Akrams is unlicensed but there is a good off-licence directly opposite on the Pershore Road. The cost of 3 main courses. 3 nan bread, 1 bombay aloo & 3 popadoms was £32 which we all agreed was good value. I'm pleased to recommend this restaurant and will certainly be visiting again. Parking can be a problem on this stretch of Pershore Road, but there is usually some side street parking nearby.

Very good BYOB curry house. Great off license opposite. The large peshwari naan was delicious, sweet (maybe honey on top?!) and big enough for 3 people. My paneer tikka masala was very tomatoey, not the best I’ve had but I have very high standards! The butter chicken, paneer madras and chicken and spinach were all delicious. Poppadoms really fresh and loved the gravy boat of mint sauce. Highly recommend! Very reasonably priced too

Akram's undoubtedly sets itself apart with its exceptional staff, renowned for their friendly and accommodating demeanor. Stepping into Akram's feels akin to a culinary journey through one's homeland, thanks to the warm and welcoming atmosphere fostered by their dedicated team. Moreover, the culinary offerings at Akram's are nothing short of extraordinary, leaving patrons speechless with their remarkable flavors and impeccable presentation. For those eager to explore the diverse and delectable tastes of Indian, Pakistani, or Kashmiri cuisine, Akram's emerges as the quintessential destination. During our visit, we had the pleasure of indulging in the Akram's Tandoori Speciality with Salad and the Balti Chicken Bhuna, both of which proved to be delightful gastronomic experiences. The ambiance at Akram's is equally inviting, providing the perfect setting to unwind amidst a discerning clientele. Additionally, Akram's stands out as an exceptional venue for socializing, attracting a cream crowd seeking to savor exquisite flavors in a relaxed environment. Notably, patrons have the option to bring their own alcoholic beverages, provided they request permission beforehand. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend experiencing dinner at Akram's at least once; the combination of unparalleled hospitality, delectable cuisine, and inviting ambiance is sure to leave a lasting impression. With their commitment to making guests feel at home, Akram's truly excels in providing a memorable dining experience.

Just met up with some friends here and the place was buzzing. Super service, friendly staff, great vibe and food was gorgeous even though mine was a little less spicy than I would have liked. Will definitely be coming back.

Excellent curry (and I say that as someone who usually dislikes curry), quick and polite service and good value. Large portion sizes: large and varied starters particularly and for desert we got SUCH a big slice of extremely delicious cake. That was probably the nicest cake I’ve eaten all year. My only tiny criticism is that the music was a little too loud, but still a very very good restaurant. This is my new favourite place to dine whilst in Birmingham. Two thumbs up! 👍👍

The food was incredible. One of the best Indian restaurant I have ever been. (My manager who is Indian said the same) The staff was kind. Sidenote, you cannot get any drinks with alcohol in the restaurant, but you can bring it with you and they let you drink it with your meal. There is a shop right in front of the restaurant where you can buy beer, cider or wine. Highly recommended it.

We came here for an eid celebration with family, and we are so happy we chose to celebrate here! From the moment we entered the managers Iftikar and Nazir were fantastic. They answered all of our questions about the menu and quick to give suggestions based on our preferences. When the food arrived it was sizzling hot and tasted fantastic, not one item was missed! For dessert you must try the coconut ice cream it is one of the best I have ever tasted! Throughout the meal staff were attentive and never too far away should we need anything. I cannot reccomend Akbars enough. A 5 star service and food local establishment! Thanks for a great experience, we can't wait to come back.

Brought some friends tonight to iftar with me on a Monday night, nice to see a mix of Muslims and people out just as normal, the atmosphere was calm and 50% full. We had chicken korma, mutton biryani - asked for this a little hotter - was lovely. My friend had the tandoori chicken sizzler and naan - it was really juicy. Food was just great, satisfying is how I would describe it. 4/5 for service just because the staff, including the owner, looked really rushed off their feet. We were served by a really nice youth white waiter and were really pleased. IDK if I would visit on a weekend as I think it would be too busy, but tonight was just right

Chance visit while looking for a Curry. Everything was good about the visit. A busy popular restaurant, so it has the vote of the people. I will visit again & when I have tried a wider selection of dishes will probably upgrade my review. Don't know where to go, definitely try Akrams first & decide for yourself. Update... I have returned at a quieter time, tried additional dishes. Still maintaining good food & good service, Increasing rating to 5 star.

Excellent customer service. Food out quickly and when it came out the order was delivered perfectly.it was absolutely delicious , the cheese garlic naan was the best ever ! I had mushroom and paneer balti . I asked for it hot and it was hot . We went as a party of 5 , one had a meat vindaloo. Others had a variety of dishes and sides that were all amazing...We are a hard lot to please but this was so good I felt I had to recommend it. I will say book in advance there's no free tables and I'm not surprised. Very reasonably priced for Excellent food. Thank you for a lovely meal

One of the tastiest currys ive ever had. Went with the family as hadn't been out for a while as our little boy doesn't like to sit still for long but he was amazing and so were the staff and the food. We have been before but forgot how tasty and delicious their curry's were. Can't wait to return. Xx
