Fully booked for new years eve, and of course coming three hours away from San Francisco (actually North Walsham) for the great football match, we never even thought about making reservations. Upon arriving after 7:25 PM, manager said they have no tables and that if we would need the tables by 8 PM. We said let's do this. If you can get us food fast, we'll inhale it. True to our words, we were finished by 8 PM, packed and ready to go. This is compliments to the chef and the staff for accommodating us without notice. Excellent service. And now for the food. I have had many lamb curry dishes before and never have I tasted the Garlic Chili Lamb so tender and jumping with fresh ingredients. It was phenomenal in tastes. The garlic nan we fluffy and soft (loardy knows no one will be kissing anyone tonight). The Chicken Tikka with side of delicious salad appetizer split in half for the two kids were perfectly tender and fresh. Salad had avocados and pomegranate finishes the salad with a bang. And finally, the Chicken Murogh Jhalbhaja was off the hook. Overall, delicious food and great service. My 12 year old son ask if we can come back again. I would definitely do so next time in England. Well worth the trek. Thank you and Happy New Year!

A friend of ours in the states bought a gift certificate to the Viceroy so it could be a nice treat when we moved here. Our experience was absolutely delightful. We booked a lovely dinner for two and were treated with some of the best customer service I've seen. Our waiter practically doted on us. The decor is posh and cosy. A nice little window shows a view to the kitchen so you can watch the chefs work their magic. The presentation and cooking style really showed their artfulness in crafting good food. We ordered a variety of dishes and shared: bombay aloo chat, cabbage kofta bhuna, matar paneer, papadums, and peshwari naan. The papadums come with a caddy of some of the most delightful sauces and toppings I've ever had. We scoffed down almost all of the sauces and ordered a second helping of papadums just to smear on more mint sauce. We didn't expect the bombay aloo chat to be so fancy. Most places just present a small bundle of fried onion/potato cakes. These were larger and presented with a lovely salad and sauce on the plate. One recommendation I'd make is to order the small option for the entrees. We split two small orders and were stuffed! Couldn't imagine how much food would have been in a large entree. The music and lighting were perfect. I will definitely be going back!

Since I've lived in the Jewellery Quarter a few businesses have opened up on an odd little stretch just at the end of Warstone Lane on the corner of Carver Street. Unfortunately none of them have lasted too long and when I noticed a new Indian restaurant opening in one of the vacant units there I was intrigued but a little apprehensive - especially as it seemed to take a long time to actually open. But open it did and we ventured down for a friends birthday (by this point a couple of people I know in the local area had recommended it to me). I'd perused the menu online beforehand and while not cheap it's nowhere near the price tag of local favourite Lasan. After deciding on a nice bottle of viognier, Vicky and I went for the banquet menu for 2 - it seemed like the best way to try the maximum amount of dishes for the least money! At £20 a head for 4 courses it provides a lot of bang for your buck. An initial course of popadoms were delivered along with the standard array of dips but all were absolutely delicious and had much more depth of flavour than your standard selection from a takeaway. Then a wealth of starters were brought out - a fine selection of lamb skewers, paneer and chicken liver. By this point I was getting a touch full but then the mains were brought over - rioja lamb, methi chicken, king prawn, saag aloo and a dahl served with rice and naan. The rioja lamb was absolutely delicious, tender chunks of meat in a surprisingly creamy red wine based sauce. We polished this all off with a cup of coffee - which I certainly needed after consuming that much! All members of staff that I spoke to were fantastic - friendly, helpful and quite understanding of the noise we were making due to being a large group. One of our party did have some issues with her main course but this did seem to be resolved fairly swiftly and the cost of the dish was waived. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the city looking for fantastic Indian cuisine - there is a huge selection of dishes and an extensive wine list that should suit all budgets. Hopefully Viceroy Tandoori is a sign of things to come in the JQ!

As I have lived the JQ for around 5 and a half years, I am always interested to see new businesses pop up in the area. When I spotted that a new Indian restaurant was opening around the corner from my house, I was both excited and curious to see what they would offer. Viceroy is located on Icknield Street, which I always considered to be a bit of a cursed area for food establishments. There has been a string of takeaways open up in this location, but none of them seem to last very long... Judging by the amount of people in the Viceroy on Saturday, maybe a business has finally found a way to buck the trend? The exterior of the venue is smart and clean. With large glass windows and dark wood frames, it doesn't give much away on first glance. On entry, you can start to see the work which must have gone into prepping this venue. It's airy, clean and has a fresh modern look. I particularly liked the seating arrangement in the venue and the flowers on each table were a lovely touch. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in through the door. Once seated, our drinks orders were taken fairly promptly (we opted for a bottle of Viognier at £13.50 - very reasonable) and we were bought our bottle of wine in an ice bucket (another nice touch). Once the discussion had taken place around the food, another server arrived to take our orders. Me and Dan G. opted for the sharing menu for 2 (at £20 a head for four courses), as it seemed good value for money for the amount and variety of food included. It certainly was the right choice. I only remembered to get a photo of my naan bread, but there were 2 different kinds of poppadom to start (with a selection of sauces), followed by a starter plate (including divine lamb kebabs) and then 3 different meat curries with 2 vegetable sides and naan bread. To say there was a lot of food would be an understatement! Me and Dan managed to valiantly eat our way through all of the food and then enjoyed a cup of coffee as our 4th course. Everything on sharing menu was delicious (including the chicken livers) and we didn't feel aggrieved at all at paying £35 each for 4 courses and 2 bottles of wine (including a small tip). We will defiantly be back again in the near future to try more of the menu!

Only a serious prig on the subject of Indian restaurants would give this gem in the Jewellery Quarter anything less than the five stars it deserves. The staff is knowledgeable and the service is brisk but personal.

Visited at the weekend for a friends birthday. Having checked the menu before arriving, I had high expectations, and was not disappointed. There are a number of unusual dishes on the menu as well as the staples which made it a little difficult to choose, but I eventually settled on a dansak. I fancied vegetable rather than meat, and although not on the menu, they were happy to prepare this for me. It was a good choice, turning out to be one of the best vegetarian curries I've tasted, with generous chunks of veg including aubergine and okra in a rich, tangy sauce. Rice and naan were also both very good. The only downside was that as we were a very large group, one friend's order was forgotten, but when flagged, the staff were incredibly apologetic and offered her dish for free, and it was brought out very quickly after that. Other than this, the service was impeccable and overall a very good meal. Would definitely return.

After reading good reviews on trip advisor we decided to try it out. We were very happy with our decision. The restaurant was nicely set up and clean. The staff were very attentive and gave us some great suggestions when it came to ordering our meal and wine. The turn around on the food was quick. Every interaction we had with them seemed very genuine and sincere. Recommend

My husband & I came here for an evening meal on a quiet Monday evening and I couldn’t recommend it enough! The customer service was absolutely amazing from start to finish, supper attentive and accommodating. The food was out of this world, best curry I’ve had in a very long time. Amazing value for money in a perfect location. We will definitely be back soon.

Absolutely amazing, the service was fantastic. The food was gorgeous, the best meal I've had out in a long time. The waitress and waiters were fantastic and really catered to our needs. When we arrived, it had not long opened, so it was pretty quiet, but it soon filled up, and the atmosphere was great. We were originally a table of 3 but a quick call to upgrade to 5 was no problem at all and due to road works, we were also later than our booking time, this was no problem at all. Will be back for more it was so tasty, and we will bring our friends too 😋 ❤️

It was a rainy midweek night, but it was reasonably busy. Service and food were excellent. I'd not had a curry with beetroot in before, but really enjoyed it with some lovely lamb. I'm not in Birmingham very often but would definitely look forward to another visit.

What a delicious meal in a really nice, bright, sparklingly clean setting. We came here Thursday night around 6pm and had a very warm and friendly greeting from the owner. The menu was very interesting, lots of Bangladeshi dishes and more traditional curries. We enjoyed chicken chaat puree and lamb chop starters. The lamb was utterly sublime, melt in the mouth, delicious marinade. The chicken chaat was very generous and really fresh. The condiments (yogurt mint and mango chutney) were also delicious. Definitely homemade and really high quality. For mains, my OH had chicken shashlik and I had a medium hot chicken tikka bhuna. The heat level was perfect, just enough fresh green chilli to give a kick whilst still being able to taste the spices. We shared a rice and peshwari naan. The interior is modern, really nice large tables, spotlessly clean, sparkling cutlery, tableware. The owner was attentive and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will be returning next week! Yum! Thank you!
