Great food, love the mince on toast with a potato cake added on top for the winter times, good selection of sweets and is my fav place in the birkdale/ beach haven area
Very polar reviews on this cafe.we live down the road and go often. It is way better than cafe au bon coin. The chinese owner doesn't seem to remember anybody and constantly tells off her staff. We have found the other staff very friendly and the coffee very good.the atmosphere is average but anybody who complained about the food should revisit.
the rissoto cakes are really good lovely food but the service is not great eastern europeon lady very unfriendly and stern unwelcoming feeling maybe music would be a good idea and some changes to cabinet food would be nice
My morning coffee stop on the way to work: never lets me down! Lovely range of food, particularly love the smoked fish cakes or enjoy the bagel with cream cheese. The only complaint is they aren't open on a Monday when I most desperately need caffeine but they work so hard they deserve a day off 😎😎
I've been here quite a few times as its in the neighbourhood. Staff are always friendly and attentive. Coffee is great, never had a bad coffee from here but sadly the menu is quite outdated and boring. It would be great to see something new as they've had the same "special" since I first came here 2 years ago.. Nonetheless the food is ok, good serving size and reasonably priced.
I like there coffees and there atmosphere. I have been here on two completely different occasions and got the same standard of service.
And the food was good quality, top notch food.

Best brunch on the Shore. The fish cakes are especially excellent and are highly recommended. I would advise coming early as it can get busy, or if there at peak times order at the counter to expedite service to your table (otherwise you can sometimes be waiting a little while to catch a server's attention). Totally worth the wait though! So good. Would go every weekend if I could.

FOOD: Excellent, it was exactly as described and tasty... the coffee was up to scratch too.
SERVICE: Friendly and attentive. The food was a little slow to arrive but they explained that they had to redo a meal (forgot to put the hollandaise on the side as requested), and gave us free coffee which was much appreciated.
ATMOSPHERE: A little dated/rough around the edges. We went for brunch on Saturday; it was busy but didn't feel too packed as the place is split over a few different seating areas.
My first choice of the local cafés when a friend suggests a coffee.....the staff are always polite and friendly, the food is great and not overpriced, and the atmosphere is relaxed, with nice views from the deck out the back. The baking is superb. I have sometimes sat here and chatted with a friend for a couple of hours after only having a coffee, this is the kind of place you can relax and do that in. Really lucky to have this in our neighbourhood.
This is a fantastic down to earth place to eat! Introduced by a friend a few months back over from Brisbane visiting ~ We met again last week enjoyed fabulous Tea & Coffee ~ Beautiful food made with homemade passion! Such delightful combinations ~ I had the same as Olivia.W review, Gorgeous! My friend had had the smoked fish cakes and simply loved them! Now I live in Orewa have a meeting tomorrow in Wairau and need a place to eat with one of the peeps afterwards! Yes Its most definitely worth the drive.
Tremendous mushroom risotto cake with salmon and hollandaise sauce on a poached egg accompanied by leafy greens and tender green beans. It really was fantastic!
My daughter had the oatmeal porridge with cinnamon and brown sugar syrup plus stewed rhubarb. My daughter absolutely Loved her fluffy, which was free, and quite possibly the best style of fluffy I have ever seen. Complete with coloured sprinkles, chocolate dust, lots of mini marshmallows and a chocolate fish on the side!

Recently discovered this little suburban eating oasis which can proudly and easily compete with any other "smart city eating establishment". Located opposite the roundabout intersection of Rangatira, Birkdale and Verrans Roads in Birkenhead [opposite the bus depot], it offers good and traditional Kiwi kai from the food cabinet. I always enjoy the chunky ham and cheese muffins along with great blackboard-menu food. Thoroughly enjoy the traditional bacon and eggs...served on multi-grain toast. Excellent tea is served in grandma's not-always-matching bone china cups with non-matching pots whilst their lattes are pretty damn good too. Prices - surprisingly modest for such good quality food. Service - consistently pleasant and courteous from wait-staff for whom attention is never too much trouble. They aren't afraid to indulge in conversation with their customers either. And, they rarely walk past a table without offering to clear used cutlery and crockery. Most often NZH available but huge selection of magazines too along with wi-fi access. Slightly bohemian surroundings but genuinely friendly atmosphere with an obviously consistent clientele. Plenty of tables, inside, out back and a couple on the sidewalk as well. Try this neat little cafe - you won't be disappointed.

This is a great cafe to enjoy with a partner or few friends. The cafe is small to medium in size with tables tipically seating 2-4. Decor is nice and simple following a nautical theme with pops of greenery. Large glass windows let in a lot of light make the cafe bright and inviting. Seats are comfortable and for any sturdy sided people out their like myself you will find seat that are large enough fit most bums nicely.
The Chef does an amazing and most importantly consistent job. Everything i have ordered is cooked perfectly and with great care to balance the flavour.
Hands down the best Hollandaise sauce in all of the redlands so I insist you try the eggs beni. For the coffee lovers the coffee is a very smooth and chocolately, caramel blend that doesnt have the sharp bitter flavours of most other cafe blends. So if that sounds like your kind of coffee preference i highly reckonmend trying it in a latte, if you take sugar with your coffee you can go with less sugar for this blend of coffee.
Finally if you looking for something sweet to go with your coffee the glutten free browny is my goto, normally glutten free can be a gamble on good or bad but here you will win! I personally avoid glutten free because of that reason but this brownie gives me hope that glutten free can be amazing!
Overall this cafe has been consistantly making great food and coffee that its top of my list for cafes to visit in the redlands and highly reckonment checking it our for yourself

Very friendly staff. Very quick service. Coffee in record time and hot fresh food soon after. Kitchen is hidden so you don't realise what a big menu they actually have.

Stumbled upon this little gem while on holidays. Very warm and inviting and lured by the breakfast bruchetta. The coffee dining in is very good and overall quite reasonably priced. Will definitely continue to come back when in town.
