The food at the Powell was amazing, we were visiting Canterbury for the weekend and found this pub by mistake. The food and service were great and to top it off there were 2 singers in the bar that were great so overall a great enjoyable day. We will definitely be back on our next visit
Really enjoyed afternoon tea for 6 people Hot drinks were refillable and we had a lot!! Plenty of sandwichs, sausage rolls, scones, cakes, etc infact brought loads home! Great value costing only £12 for 2 people. Would highly recommend and staff were great too!
First time going here tonight and had the most amazing roast dinner. Friendly, efficient staff and the Christmas tree looked stunning � perfect ornament placement from a fellow OCD ���

Took my Father in law for lunch yesterday with my boys , 16 and 10, and had a super lunch. The Powell burger was delicious � highly recommend.
We celebrated my wifes birthday with dinner at the Powell on Thursday 18th May with my family on an unfortunate rainy night.
Very good choice on menu, excellent food, intentive service, super bar staff.
A wonderful evening and definately see you next year

Great pub! We were a couple of Aussies in town for a few days, went there on our first day and it brought us back every day after that. The locals said it had recently re-opened. We could not recommend them highly enough. Great vibe, the service was impeccable - friendly and attentive - and the food was fantastic, using all locally sourced ingredients. If you're in Birchington or surrounds, go!
People have complained that no cash is taken, however not found an issue. I prefer card payments as more secure and those that moan can easily go elsewhere have found this a very present place
Now re-opened and more geared up for meals. We booked for Easter sunday dinner and sat in the conservatory area. Staff seemed to be a bit new to the job (apart from one) so be patient. We had to ask for salt and pepper as none on the table. We both had roast dinner, my other half went for the lamb which looked to be the better (i went for beef). Watch out as well for the service charge (not shown on the menu as far as we could see!).
Only popped in for a drink nice atmosphere had a pint of cornish cider very nice all in all a good experience

Took friends today for lunch. A very friendly reception, fantastic service and attention. Food was really very good indeed, almost too much on our plates! A great choice, well presented and delicious. A lovely environment, and the ladies room exceptionally clean! Very happy to recommend and will certainly come again. Our friends might even book a room next time they come down to visit as they look good.

Really beautiful room, nicely decorated and very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful and it was a great price. Only couple of downsides were no onsite parking, however there is a pay and display very close where 24 hour parking was about £5 and also a residential road where we parked for free. There is also no breakfast in the pub. We were recommended the cafe across the road so there is an option for food if wanted. Would 100% stay again.
We were in the area for a little break away, we chose to have our food here on the Thursday night (May 5th) and the girl serving was great, very welcoming, talkative and very happy to help. We had a query about what we noticed was a local food - fried pickle - the chef came out to us to ask us about it, didn’t have any pickles but treated us to some fried pickled onions which were lovely! Would certainly suggest people to come here.
Restaurant: Good food and wine at reasonable prices. We had four separate dishes...fajitas, chicken, fish n chips, and linguine. All very good. The chef was happy to change the chicken to include a portions of chips and peas instead of the suggested risotto. Non alcoholic beer available; staff happy to allow one of us to bring non alcoholic wine. Staff very attentive. Will return!

Attended with friends for the first of I hope many more occasions, a nice friendly atmosphere, staff very approachable, and the food was great. Very reasonably priced. I am certainly looking forward to my next visit.
The first time I've had a meal here. Popped in for a drink before and really liked the atmosphere. On this occasion, and under covid distancing rules etc. The atmosphere hadn't changed. Friendly staff, nice greeting with sensible controls in place. The food options were good and a nice selection of cocktails which was a nice option, although I didn't try them. The food was okay. Cooked well and tasty. The wine choices were a little limited I would have liked to see a better choice. Overall had a fantastic time which I feel is the main point of this place. Prices were very reasonable.
