Lived in Berkhamsted for a while and regularly drive past this restaurant but until last weekend, hadn't ventured in. Pleasantly surprised on booking brunch that very morning that they actually had table available unlike some others in town. We were a group of 5 plus a very friendly dog. We all had something different from French Toast to Shaksuka. I had the Full Plates Breakfast with a side order of their Hash Bites with freshly squeezed OJ to drink. Everything was delicious, the only minor negative which I mentioned at the time was that the poached egg had been overcooked so didn't have any delicious gooey yolk to enjoy. Staff were very friendly and gave the dog a bowl of water along with a treat. Will 100% be returning soon.

We went for breakfast for my dads birthday. What a find. Absolutely amazing place. Really enjoyed the breakfast and ambiance of the restaurant. The only small criticism i have is that due to how efficient the servers were they cleared some of the plates away before some of our party had finished. I always feel they should be cleared at the end when everyone has finished. Putting this aside I would highly recommend plates.

Lovely experience today at Plates. Waiters were lovely and very helpful and the food was delicious! Would definitely recommend. Coffee offered with the breakfast for free, which was the cherry on top. Manager was really nice!

I really enjoyed my breakfast. There were a few new flavours to explore in my full English. This won't suit traditionalists, but I think it worked. The coffee is really good too. Expect to pay much more than your average cafe.

The Brest breakfast place! Reaaaaaaly good food! The quality is amazing! Never liked English breakfast but the way how they are serving it’s absolutely stunning! I wish only they could have more home made pastries for dessert. Really lovely food and friendly staff

This was only my second visit but had I had one of the best things I’ve ever eaten today. Christmas sandwich with turkey, stuffing, cranberry, cabbage & gravy mayo. Quick service, amazing food and drinks, service with a smile…..I must go more often. Apparently they’re hunting for a new chef, I just hope it’s not to replace the current one!

Stopped by for a quick brunch and it was everything I’d expect! Served quickly and with a smile. We had the fish finger sandwich, and the basil chive hollandaise poached eggs. Yummy food, beautifully presented, and a fresh OJ and grapefruit juice to wash it down. (Not too bitter) Coffee was great too, but expect nothing less from Fred and Ginger. Have also had dinner here, was particularly fond of the burrata, meatballs, fresh doughnuts, and the open style kitchen! Always nice to see chefs at work, and keeping it professional at all times. Excited to see what seasonal delights will make their way onto the menu next time round!

I had a delicious eggs Benedict on sourdough bread. Cooked perfectly and presented very nicely. The venue can be a little loud/echoey on the door side.

From the team at Fred & Ginger, a well executed bistro style dining experience has been created in Berkhamsted. With a touch of Scandi style and a dash of hipster art (the F&G way), this venue creates a warm and welcoming space to enjoy delicious food that is complemented perfectly by organic wines and speciality coffee. In the current COVID climate the company has distanced the tables perfectly, the team are all masked up and super friendly, and the tables even have essential oil-fragranced anti bac... nice touch! Highly recommend their breakfast and brunch, but I am yet to have a free evening to enjoy their later service. Can’t wait! Cheers ☕️

On Sunday 3/07 Myself and 4 family members visited Plates for lunch. As usual the food was delicious and appealed to the youngest and and oldest in the group. The staff are welcoming and attended to our requirements quickly and what impressed me was the fact that glasses and a bottle of water were immediately placed on the table and the staff regularly replace the water once it has been drunk. I have found that in restaurants, one usually has to ask for a top-up!! During our time at Plates the staff were attentive, friendly but not intrusive. Once again a thoroughly enjoyable lunch and we will definitely be back!

This is a little gem, situated on the North end of the High Street. Understated, with delicious food, always a fabulous combination. Great for vegetarians and carnivores alike. Thank you for such a delicious lunch.
