Reviews The Punch Bowl Low Bentham

An excellent location, and lovely owners! Let me just put a few of the common complaints on here to bed! Trains- The trains are very infrequent, and not overly loud when they do travel past! The kids all wave at them too which is lovely, and if you're lucky you might see a stream train!! Mud- The ONLY place with mud is in the entrance, most of which I think has been caused to be honest by people not knowing how to drive through a wet field!! We are still here writing this review and have seen multiple vehicles drifting around in it on purpose! Location of pitches- Excellent and varied! You choose where to go! If it looks cramped in one corner DONT put your tent there.... Simple. Toilet and showers- the toilets are absolutely fine, a million times better than I was expecting after some of these reviews! The shower is very basic, but is ok for an occasional shower ( this is the ONLY thing that could do with being a bit better).Again, this site is SO CHEAP if you want a luxury shower pay 3* the price! Very well priced, and an excellent base to explore! It is not a 5* site in terms of the official status BUT for what you pay to stay here and what they provide ( flushing toilets, a shower, picnic tables etc) it is 5*.

Just had a great weekend at The Punch Bowl. The owners and their son could not have been more friendly, helpful and accommodating. The site is exactly what the owners describe - basic - however the toilets are clean and there is electric hook up. We went for food at the pub with a choice of English or Malaysian cuisine. Most of our party of nine went for Malaysian and it was wonderful. We had read some of the negative reviews before we went but I think it is about customer expectations. If you want a campsite with all the amenities then this isnt the site for you however if you want a cheap, basic campsite in a beautiful location with friendly hosts (and three gorgeous dogs) then you can't go wrong with this place.

Extremely friendly and helpful owners. Had booked a meal and we were given the choice to eat by our tent as it was a lovely evening. Waiter service from the owners son. Fantastic young man. 👌

I have just stayed at The Punchbowl Hotel for 3 nights and I can’t fault a thing. The family that run it are the most kind and welcoming people. We rented a caravan and it was as described, basic but comfortable. The campsite itself is basic, with 2 toilets and a shower, but it makes a good base for exploring nearby areas. The true high point of our stay though was the food. We had both breakfast and dinner every day, and tried both the western and Malaysian menu and everything was perfect. I would honestly say it was some of the best food I have ever eaten, and you can tell it’s all handmade with love. This is one place we will definitely be returning to.

We stayed here for a family camp with camper van and two tents. On arrival we were allocated pitches and made welcome. The family who run the site and pub are extremely helpful and friendly. We ordered Malaysian food one evening and were given the choice of eating in the pub or on the site. We opted to eat on the site and the food was brought out to us by the owner's son. It was served hot and was delicious. As mentioned in other reviews, the toilet and shower facilities are basic but functional. We were told that they would be improved in the future. We wish the owners success and hope to visit again in the future.

Great hospitable site. Had 2 nights there in our caravan. There is a shower and toilets but we didnt use them as we had our own in our caravan. Shanty and her son was so accommodating, a well stocked bar at very fair prices. Shanty kindly gave us some free food to sample, whilst we enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. It’s was delicious. Other people who were dining said the food was amazing, I must admit it smelled fantastic. Hope to see you again and thank you

What can i say , this was the first time we had stayed here and i have to say the owners are brilliant, nothing is to much trouble for them. My husband and I stayed at the bank holiday weekend and we had a fabulous time, I can't understand why some people leave bad reviews for this lovely couple and there very nice son. Yes the toilets and shower are basic but this is explained before you book. The owners will be having the toilets and showers refurbished at some point and as my husband is a plumber he has offered to help them with the refurbishment because they are such lovely people. Also in these times where we have just come through a pandemic why not help local businesses , who may be struggling to make a living instead of leaving bad reviews. We have stayed on many sites and this one is very good for the price you pay, Jo and Howard.

Myself, my partner, our lodger, and 2 dogs stayed on the campsite from Monday, the 12th, until the following Monday. Well, it was supposed to be those dates before the weather decided otherwise. We ended up staying an extra 5 days after talking to the camp owner, Dougie, due to our tent taking in water from the roof section and the fact that it wouldn't be dry to pack away ahead of our train journeys back to Scotland. He was kind enough to on the night of us informing him of this moving us into one of their caravans on the field. It's a basic campsite, but that's by no means a criticism. If you want something fancy, then search for it, however f you want something basic where the people you meet are friendly, approachable, and helpful, then The Punch Bowl is the place for you. The only criticism I would have, and it is in no way the site's fault, is that because we didn't drive, your nearest shops are a little bit away, and unless (like us) you find friendly neighbours who are willing to drive you, that could be a negative point. That's my reason for knocking a star off in relation to the location; as I said, you can't exactly pick the site up and move it nearer to the village though. We sadly didn't have the opportunity to sample their food; next time we're there, fingers crossed, we will however.

One of the best random food stops I've ever made. Will definitely be coming here for the food from Liverpool. Lovely service and flavours to remember!

Brilliant spot to set up for a night or more. Toilets (bring some toilet roll w you), an electric shower, and electrical hookups available to campers. The family who own the property are welcoming and lovely. They have three massive and lovely dogs (one of whom is afraid of people but the other two are hopelessly friendly) who were a joy to be around. We got in fairly late, but they were incredibly accommodating and still fed us a delicious meal. They didn't have everything available that was on the menu, but the food we did order was downright delicious. The Malaysian dishes were nothing short of divine - but fair word of warning for those of us who are wimps when it comes to spicy food... They make it spicy! So if you know you can't handle the spice, be sure to let them know and they're happy to tone it down for you. Definitely a nice spot if you're going to be exploring the Lake District or the Dales.

Our 3rd time back camping at the punchbowl hotel. The site is as described on their website, basic, but the owners, Shanti, doug, and their son couldnt be any more welcoming. We had an amazing time again and the owners son even gave us a lovely little gift when we left. We will definitely be returning 😁
