Food was very wholesome - hot (which always makes a difference). Good choices. Definitely somewhere I'd return to.

Nice for a pub lunch but a couple more smaller plates on menu would be a bonus for older people.
The food is absolutely outstanding and great value as well, Ive been here 3 times in the last few months, ordered different meals each time and it's always been spot on. Honestly cannot fault the food. Best pub in the area at the minute I'd go as far as saying. Much better than the hilltop
First time here and will definitely be back we went mid week for our tea and was just lovely we booked for 5.30 service by young lads was very good

We have been to Beamish Museum a few times so how have we missed this gem. We were staying at a local hotel but chose to come here for our evening meal for a change and so glad we did. Lovely pub, barstaff really friendly and food absolutely spot on and a great price. The portions are a little on the large side so unfortunately no room for desert on this occasion. Agreed when we visit the museum for the day we will call in for a meal on our way home. Already recommended to friends, especially the mixed grill with best black pudding ever.
Food was plentiful and did not disappoint. Service was excellent from walking into the pub. Visited on a Sunday and menu was varied, price very reasonable. Good atmosphere.
Popped in this place after visiting beamish. The staff were really good and the food was excellent value for money. The large mixed grille you see in the photos was Β£9.99! The other is a homemade lasagna which was also really nice.
I also got to watch a fully grown man panic when a wasp flew near his food πππ

Food is exceptional and definitely value for money.
Portions are huge and everything is high quality and home made.
The young staff are professional, courteous and friendly.
Overall thoroughly impressed. Only downside is no dogs allowed inside but there is an outdoor seating area which is pet friendly.
Lovely restaurant/pub. Looking forward to going back there again, hopefully for a sit down meal. This was my first visit there but sadly, the car park was full, so my girlfriend sat in our car while I got fish n chips as a takeaway. Fish and batter were stunning. The chef provided a good portion of fish and it was beautifully cooked, soft but not dry at all. They supplied a lemon slice, which I don't always see, so a small touch that was appreciated. The chips were tasty and not greasy, but I would have liked a less soft, more crisper chip. As a final note, portion size: I have a good appetite but we opted to divide up the meal as we needed to be able to move afterwards!
Another silver surfer venue at twelve so be warned, it's heaving π. Still, fine country pub, Spit from lovely Beamish. Nice walks round about. Food is good solid pub grub with veggie options (although I couldn't eat that much at lunch without a nap after...π₯±). Staff are lush.
When you get good food, portion size and cost is not really an issue, but when you get good food and good portions for a good price, then you're onto something. We had four meals, and four drinks for less than fifty quid. The only downside was the staff didn't give off that welcoming vibe.
Attended with a large group for a Christmas party, classic 3 course festive fayre. Extremely tasty. Quality food for the price is amazing, the service was outstanding. The team of staff looking after us went above and beyond helping our group with our every additional request. The group had numorous dietary requirements that were not a problem to the kitchen and service staff. Any issues were apologised for and another food offering was made in substitution.
Me and my youngest son have visited here many times and we think it's fantastic for food and drink especially the massive mixed grill which we both had it's massive served on a large metal plate and at a fantastic price, We would recommend The Shepherd and Shepherdess to anyone who likes good food and a very nice atmosphere, Thanks for all the staff concerned, We WILL be back, ππ
