Wow! we are travelling from South Africa and our very good friends brought us here. I had the Pigeon (one of my top 5 meals EVER!) and my partner the bangers and mash - it came recommended - and will be recommended to anyone reading this. The selection of beer and the variety on the menu of local rustic food was the best we've had in the UK! My daughter is a chef back in stellenbosch and we are always experiencing new and amazing food. But the Royal standard truly IS a standard we have been waiting for and all should be measured to this high standard. Thank you! Dankie!

Such a lovely quirky old pub! Have been wanting to visit due to the Hot Fuzz connection but this place outdid itself on everything. If we could give 6 stars we would. The lamb was absolutely amazing and well worth the money!

Honestly, this is my favourite pub I've ever been to. The vibe, the staff, and the food are 10/10. The staff are so friendly and super on it! The food was great and the table we had reserved was cosy and next to a window. The Sunday roast was delicious, and the Yorkshire pudding was massive and soooo good! The dessert was also 10/10. Also, the inside made me think of The Snuggly Duckling (Tangled reference). Can't recommend this place enough.

Such an amazing place, every corner, nook and cranny had something interesting to see! Plus the food was wonderful, from homemade sausages to hand-raised pies and some of the crispiest pork belly ever. 100% recommended. If we were close by this would be on our regular list.

Amazing old pub! There are actually two main halls each one is with different interior. Very old and beautiful. Warm fireplaces. We had the Sunday roast and a lot of starters. The lamb is fabulous! Huge portions. Nice local beer. The staff is very polite. You should make a reservation online around 2 weeks before if it is Sunday. Parking is free. The area is nice for a walk. Will come back again!

Boasting a plethora of nooks and crannies to explore and intriguing knick-knacks lining the walls, this pub - claiming to be the oldest in England - has a surprinsgly warm and welcoming atmosphere, despite it's spooky past 🍻 The Royal Standard of England has over 800 years of rich history - much of which features ghost stories such as a little drummer boy and the possible haunting of the mistress of Charles II! 👻 Fun fact: this beautiful boozer is an extremely popular filming location, due it's stunning uniqueness. Do you recognise the view in the first photo? Swipe through to see some eye-catching details we spotted on our recent visit... Visit to explore inside this amazing pub, treat yourself to a delicious pie from their kitchen and make sure you chat with the friendly staff to learn all about its history. If you're lucky, they might even tell you a ghost story or two... 💵 ££ 🚻 Toilets 🚗 Free parking nearby

The majority of the food was very nice with a few disappointing dishes/items such as “seasonal vegetables” that was two different types of courgette served in oily water. There were also a number of items that we were informed were unavailable after placing our initial order. It would have been useful to have been told about these at the point we were seated. We also had two members of the party who were served a different meal to what was ordered, without advance warning on the basis that the original dish had sold out. The staff were nice, but appeared to lack experience and were unaware of what they were serving. Finally, the prices seem disproportionately high.

One of the oldest pubs in the UK. This pub is 900 years old. Beautiful original features throughout the property including stained glass windows, wooden beams and sunny courtyard. Great for food or just having a drink. Will visit again when I'm next in town.

Lovely Sunday lunch, dropped one star as the lunch could have been warmer and it cooled rapidly on the non hot plates...... Having said that, it did taste delicious, and the chocolate marquise was gorgeous!

The most atmospheric pub dining experience I have had, incredible decor as the place is 900 years old. Many of it is hundreds of years old but by far the most redeeming factor is the food quality, food here is expensive but it seems you get what you pay for. I have now visited 3 times and eaten different meals each time and all have been great. I always sit at the awesome table 1 although the sofa needs a new base cushion as its pretty uncomfortable other than that 9/10 best pub in and around London for sure

What a fantastic historic location. Had an amazing Sunday lunch and table right by one of the fire places. The rustic atmosphere and staff are brilliant. Generous portions and reasonable prices, as well as good parking.

What an amazing location. There is so much history here and the atmosphere is unbelievable. Very cozy and inviting, the smell of burning wood in the fireplace lends a feeling of home, the food is delicious, the variety of beer is impressive and the staff is very hospitable. I can't say enough good things about this pub, you have to see it for yourself. 10 stars.

This 900 year old pub is a bit of a bidden track. The journey will be worth it all day long. Our group enjoyed an amazing meal here. The prices are slightly higher than your usual pub meals. The pork belly is to die for. The fish was also enjoyed. In fact the food was the most amazing food. It is definitely the most worth it trip for a great meal and night out. The interior of the pub has the character as described, a fantastic place and just worth a visit for a drink to view the original interior and exterior decor. Certainly highly recommended for the very reason we visited this fantastic pub.

great pub with lots of history. service was awesome. food was tasty all be it a bit on the higher end of the scale... maybe riding on the coat tails of fame and taking in an extra pound or two. I mean my gosh and chips was 22 pounds.... pretty steep by average. definitely come here for a pint. great place to sit and visit.
