As someone who rarely orders fish when dining out, I caveat my review of Loch Fyne, Bath, unsurprisingly a fish focused restaurant chain. That said, the perfect accompaniment for the rare English summers day is the combination of Salmon and white wine, and these restaurants do both rather well. (I wish I'd been adventurous enough for the Haggis on the menu, but forgave myself as it wasn't a bitter evening in January).
The Loch Fyne location is lovely, a grand but still intimate room with the obligatory Bath marble colonnades, with an open preparation area at one end and a fresh feeling decor. I always thought that the restaurant would work well as more tapas style than traditional, so we ordered a few courses, to start a special of the day, namely a light platter consisting of a variety of smoked salmons and terrine, (very fresh) oysters for next course and for main the starter fish pie, served in a traditional clamshell, for me the highlight. In keeping with the light and fresh mood, decor and cuisine, we ordered a Chabis from the well appointed wine list. Enough to fill but not to weigh down, this is a great spot for lunch with a tipple.
One of the best fish restaurants I have had the privilege of dining at. The atmosphere was great. The open kitchen meant we could see the care taken with the food.
Oh.. the food, I'll let the pictures do the talking...
Fantastic.
Lovely interior, an old bank I'd imagine. The dining area is bright and airy, with high ceilings, lovely lighting fixtures, muted colours and photos treated to fishing. When the restaurant is full and buzzing with conversation, it is still possible to hold a conversation.
The open kitchen is always reassuring, and the food is delicious!
We've returned for dinner a couple of times and lunch a handful of occasions.
The mixed fish grill is very large if you are hungry it is recommended.
The prawn linguini is so gorgeous, order done bread so you can mop up every last bit.
Lovely venue, fantastic food. Meal for 4 with drinks £130 very reasonable and friendly staff.
Good concept, but the quality of food and service degraded a bit, since I last time where there. Still good choice if you are looking for fish/seafood restaurant in Bath.
Fresh food with a friendly staff for a convenient price. I would like recomend it, for sure!!
Small Restaurant but good service and fresh food.
This is our second visit to bath. Two years ago we were here for two days and had three meals in this restaurant. The food is excellent with a good variety on the menu and it is fresh and well cooked. We went yesterday for a late lunch, and it was as good as our memories. The menu has changed a little but the food was the same excellent quality, the staff were different to last time but just as happy, helpful and chatty. The young waitress we had was very good, even though we took ages to decide on our order. We had a good laugh with her. It is also good not to be rushed in a busy restaurant. We are going again today at 17:00 and looking forward to it. We love seafood so we are customers that know what is good quality and have in he last few years eaten in a lot of restaurants. Overall a top notch restaurant. We tell everyone about it
Well we went back today and unfortunately is was disappointing, the seafood platter was not up to the usual standard. The crab was not fresh, it tasted old and tangy and was very dry which is a good dictator that it was not fresh. The large crevettes were awful they were extremely dry and tasted off. On reflection I think we had the weekend leftovers which is unfortunate because seafood is what I know about. Regretfully I will not be coming back now. It was the main reason for coming to bath for a few days.
A lovely pleasant stay with great sea food in the restaurant 👍🏻
If you are looking for excellent seafood at an affordable price, this is the place. I had the cream and white wine oysters as a starter and they were excellent; perfectly cooked, very fresh and tasty. For the main dish I ordered the seafood tagliatelle and was completely satisfied by it.
I have nothing to say against the service. The waiter was very polite and professional. I liked the open kitchen as it assures you there is no funny business in it. (Worked in kitchens and have seen many things.)
My husband and I stayed in Loch Fyne hotel in Bath for two child-free nights and dined with them on one night over the weekend. I would highly recommend both- we were so well looked after! Every time we came in or went out we were greeted and spoken to like friends – nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were clean and well-kept and the shower was large and powerful. The location was excellent, right in the middle of the action, yet we weren’t disturbed by the nightlife. Ula appeared to be running the show there and she has a very good team – everyone had a smile for us and nothing was too much trouble for them. We had steak and oysters one night, which was just delicious – well-cooked and well-presented. I was genuinely sad to check out, we will definitely be back! Thank you for making the weekend so enjoyable and relaxed.
We stayed in the hotel above this restaurant for a weekend in Bath and had nothing but great food over the two days we ate here.
If you've got a large appetite (and a friend or partner) the seafood platter is always a great choice, with heaps of fresh cooked and chilled fish, mussels, and oysters; not cheap though!
Service was great, even after a slight wait for a table.
We also had breakfast here twice, which was also lovely. A good choice of stuff with some authentic Scottish touches, but be aware the vegetarian options are quite limited.
Great food, great staff an absolutely fantastic place. Hundred percent recommend this place.
Visited on a very busy Saturday during Bath Christmas Market season . Seated quickly. Service was very good even between a shift change. Started with e salt & pepper squid and loch Fyne oysters. Had the salmon with lobster butter and the salsa Verde sea bass. Finished with the passion fruit cheesecake. Everything was very good. Nice flavors and textures. Would definitely visit again.
The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, however it is a bit loud when full. It was also extremely hot as well, but this isn't surprising given that the kitchen is in the dining room.
We went for mussel madness Tuesday, which is very good value for money - we just would have liked the sauces to have been a bit thicker.
Absolutely amazing sea food. We had the oysters, mixed seafood grill and the salmon fillet. All cooked to perfection. Drinks were great. Couldn’t talk this place up more if we tried. Pricey but you get what you pay for :)
Fantastic meal - a highlight in a special weekend for my wife's 40th birthday celebrations. Beautifully cooked fish and seafood and great service. Make sure you book a decent way in advance and you won't be disappointed.
