Honestly, the food did not taste great. It could be better. The oothappam was too soaked in ghee and smelled. For this price, it could have been better.
But the service was very good. They were really helpful. They checked back for our feedback and reassured that they would do better next time. The ambience was also very good.
My husband and I ate here today and we had a 5 course tasting menu and it was fantastic, we were able to try a little of a lot of the dishes and really try the menu, it was so much fun and we really enjoyed every bite. Actually I'm actually upset I couldn't eat everything because it was just that good.
The flavours were fantastic, the food was perfect and just amazing and the staff were friendly and attentive, they have such pride in their food, and were very friendly, I can't fault anything, I highly recommend everything, especially the tasting menu. It was a real treat for the taste buds.
We will be back.
Excellent South Indian food. Been there a couple of times, tried veg Thaali & Matka Lamb Biryani. Both were really good. It's a small place, it's very busy in weekends, and hard to find a table.
Went for lunch and have a nice experience. The chicken lollipops from the kids menu could probably do with something extra to make it more of a meal… though maybe we were meant to order something with it? Kothu parata was tasty though had more moisture than other versions I have had before.
Excellent food and attentive staff. Food was delivered quick and tasted delicious. We had a few starters and a few different mains to share. Make sure to try their south indian food as this is their speciality. Scrumptious!
Divine Indian food - we ordered a mix of street food, some paneer curry and fish wrapped in banana leaf. We absolutely enjoyed our food and filter coffee.
As a bonus the staff here are friendly and kept checking on us from time to time, which was great too.
Its a nice place for South Indian food lovers. We went couple of times and tried different items from veg and non vegetarian and honestly they all taste so good. Staff is polite and friendly. I recommend this restaurant
Very welcoming staffs.
Went during a busy shift, food was prepared quite fast.
Butter chicken with plain Dosa was amazing, and the Dhai Puri was very flavorful would highly recommend.
Watch out for the price as it does stack up and the portion of Dhai Puri is very small
This place was such a fantastic find. The seafood platter was absolutely delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection and beautifully spiced. Everything about the meal was perfect from start to finish. Service was excellent too, polite, helpful and the little touches like them coming round to refill water glasses and check if we wanted anything else was much appreciated. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Stopped by for lunch today and had a vegetarian thali with chettinad chicken. The quality, authenticity, taste are all great and will bring me back (or to their new location in Fleet). The only caveat is that one item in the thali seemed like it has been sitting in the fridge for a while and was quite tough to eat, but yet tasted good. Everything else was good if not great. It is a relatively basic restaurant, so not somewhere I’d chose for a date night, but if you need a South Indian fix, this is the place to go!
This is my absolute favourite restaurant in Basingstoke. The food is amazing and full of flavour and the service always outstanding.
Typical South Indian Meal. Absolute home made comfort food
Has all the right flavours and spices..
Apollo fish was very nice..
Konju Inji Varuv - Prawns fry...excellent
Chicken Thaali - very nice. Although the items resembled lot like the veg thaali and only one main chicken item ( suggest to add more variety of chicken to the thaali )
Veg Thaali - mix of different veg items, loved the rasam
Masala Chai...very comforting. Nice and warm
I tried the dosa. It was amazing and the chutney with the dosa were good too. Sambar was fantastic as well. I tried the very reputed Gongura curry but unfortunately I was disappointed as it was not the best mutton curry or close to real gongura curry from Andhra. Otherwise the dosa was fab, good service, and ambience. I can tell it’s a busy place as was bustling. Overall, I enjoyed the place and food.
Absolutely love this place! After travelling in India for many years, I can honestly say that the food at Channel Express is very authentic and a fair price. Love their Masala Dosa !
Amazing dishes, great service. Just ask for help if you don't recognise dishes. Another fantastic experience.
Never been to Southern India so don't know if this is authentic or not but it was delicious, the staff were attentive and the atmosphere pleasant. Sunday evening and the majority of customers were Indian families. A small restaurant so booking would be advisable.
Great food.. Service was amazing, took work guys there and they couldnt do enough to help us. 100% recommend
Food was authentic Indian, flavoursome and fresh. Service wasn't very attentive, disinterested. Atmosphere needed some music, Indian ideally. Will return for the food
Wow! First visit here and OMG what a meal! The most excellent flavoured food served with great kindness. So a big thankyou goes to Anthony for helping us choose our food and for being a super host, definitely recommend this place!
