Nipped in here on a Sunday lunchtime for a quick drink. Loved the vibe of the place and the decor! We ended up getting some nibbles from the bar snacks menu as the menu sounded amazing. We weren't wrong, the food was great! We definitely want to come back to try the full menu. Friendly staff too. Great little pub!
Sunday lunch was delicious. Really well looked after by Tom and the middle bell team. Food and service were really great. Just a good family pub with great food and service.
Lovely old pub and very friendly bar staff. The pizzas are amazing, we had the Steakhouse pizza which had big pieces of steak on, served very hot and tasted wonderful. The pub is very clean and tidy and all covid rules are in place and a very safe environment. We will definitely be back.
Lovely family environment, plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. No sheltered area outside. Nice for a quick nibble and pint. Home cooked scratchings with apple puree was delicious.
Lovely family meal. Prices very reasonable and good service. Children's meals aren't the usual bigger portions you find in some pubs but are much higher quality food, maybe order an extra side :) will be back as the teen wants to try the deep fried oreos!
Fantabulous food! Absolutely delicious from first bite. First time going and can confidently say I will definitely be returning. Fish and chips are absolutely gorgeous, served in a quirky style which I liked very much.
What an amazing gem... although we didn't try the food, it looked and smelled amazing... so much so, we're planning on going back to try it
Absolutely delicious and well worth it. We had the Sunday lunch menu 2 course £18.95. Will definitely be going again and well recommend. Could not fault one thing and I'm a fussy eater 🙂 x
Really lovely sunday lunch and my 3 grandchildren were more than happy with their huge battered fish fingers. Staff were happy and courteous. However I was disappointed to see that there were only 2 other tables of diners at peak time. I thoroughly recommend this pub and hope that they have a good Christmas
We've see many owners come and go over the years, some brilliant some terrible but it appears that the Derby Brewing Company led team have now 'got their mojo'. My son (6) and I nipped in for dinner last night and I have to say it was excellent. He ordered the kid's fish fingers and chips and I had the Buffalo Chicken burger as it was 'burger night'. Usually a kids meal is some frozen, breaded 'protein source' and I have to admit I wasn't really expecting much more of a chicken burger.
My son, asked for the triple cooked chips instead of fries and I was amazed....actual triple cooked (not cooked once before McCains freeze them and then cooked in two temperatures of oil) Heston style original triple cooked sticks of potato perfection. Honestly this is the first time I've had true triple cooked chips, done as they should be outside of a Michelin starred pub, well done! He ate loads of the proper, homemade battered fresh fish 'fingers' which were more like large fillets and even all the peas!
My chicken burger was honestly brilliant, I spend a lot of time in America and always find anything in the uk that's branded as 'buffalo' style complete dross, usually a sweet sticky mess, lacking any crunch as it's been doused in sweet chilli based BBQ sauce of some form. This was an honest buffalo sauce, Frank's style with heat and sourness...anchor bar Buffalo NY wings, not quite, but pretty damn good for a pub in Staffordshire! Maybe this direction of really well executed smokehouse style could be a differentiator in a saturated market of "good pub grub"!
We'll be dining here more often that's for sure, coupled with the brilliant Derby company ales, some excellent vintage dry cider, (not foreign muck, sweeter than lemonade, served with ice, or stuff flavoured with dragon fruit and jasmine or some other ungodly combo) p.s why are people buying Swedish or New Zealand branded cider?...last time I checked we're pretty good at Apples in the UK! sorry rant over....
Great service too.....very happy customers.
Thanks Tom, Evie and Jorge (Graham) see you soon,
Rob
Very pleasant bar man. Interesting pub in a quaint village. Didn't eat, just had a drink and sat outside. Lovely inside and the loos were clean and quirky.
Absolutely fabulous pub! Staff were so polite and engaging. A wonderful British pub, well priced and a good range on the menu to cover all tastes. The local ale was a hit with my Husband to boot. Recommend to anyone!!
Lovely food, ended up doing their quiz. Great atmosphere and great staff.
Safe to say we didn't do well in the quiz
