Found this gem of a place by accident. The food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend

My wife and I visited this gorgeous fish and chip restaurant/takeaway this evening and had a beautiful meal in the lovely restaurant upstairs.
It's very nicely decorated, very clean and we had a lovely welcome from the lady that served us. Service was friendly and efficient and we were made to feel very welcome.
I had the large cod and chips and my wife just had the standard one, well the standard one was large and mine was very large, perfectly cooked in the only thing amazing fish and chips has to be cooked in, beef dripping. The mushy peas were perfect, the bread soft and fresh and all washed down with a pot of delicious Yorkshire tea.
This was our first visit after finding out about them in the press yesterday saying they were number 3 in the top 10 of Yorkshire fish and chip takeaways by the fry awards and in the 50 best across the country, well done guys, it's a brilliant accolade but certainly well deserved.
We were talking to the owners upstairs and they were telling us they have entertainment nights with singers and entertainers that are very popular, we'll certainly look out for those.

Brilliant food and good choice especially as can have a lighter portion menu. Real added bonus was two local hand pulled beers which apparently change on a routine basis. Cracking beer and excellent price. Will definitely visit asap.
Called in today for the first time, really outstanding food. I can honestly say this is the best chippy I've been to in about twenty years. I would recommend this place to anyone without hesitation, will definitely be visiting again.

Visited early Saturday evening and sat upstairs. Food was excellent and service was friendly. Upstairs has a great feel to it and we would have stayed for the live music had we not been on our way to an ice hockey game. Would definately recommend Ernie's and will be visiting again when we are in the area.
Proper chips and fantastic service - genuinely warm and friendly. Thank you so much for opening upstairs for us on a cold snowy Saturday and for making us feel so welcome. The veggie homemade potato cheese cakes are great, we can recommend them! If we are ever in the area again we'll be back. Thank you!!
The fish and chips are by far the best around but what's even more lovely is the the amazing customer connection they have with you.they are all so friendly and endearing. Just nipped to Holyland for a Christmas market with the wife and ended up in Ernie’s and I’m so glad we did. We love our fish n chips and Ernie’s was some of the best we’ve ever had! Cooked in dripping fat the taste was extremely satisfying, with good portions,cosy restaurant and friendly staff. Needless to say we will be back for an evening session so we can have a wine or two with our next meal. Give it a try you’ll not be disappointed 👍🏻
Ordered two breakfast one small one medium, came with tea 4.00 and4.50 excellent value clean and fast. Was made to feel at home , my partner has been back with a friend and we will certainly go again.will recommend.

Awesome traditional fish and chips. Very generous portions. Beautiful fish everything freshly cooked to order. All the traditional chippy extras that you would expect.
Upstairs café open Friday and Saturday
After a lovely walk around Manvers lakes we decided to have an easy chippy tea and we weren't disappointed. The fish and chips were delicious, best by far for a long time and the staff were very chatty and friendly. We will be returning.
I just had a fab Ernie special it was lovely the fish was so nice it was so nice all of it I would recommend going if you have not been I go a lot but it is the nicest fish and chips round here thank you for lovely food xx
The Fish batter was lovely and light, the meat was thick and melts in your mouth. Great service, decent price. Definitely see you next time 👌
