Cosy pub. Friendly staff. We had Sunday lunch. The Vegetables were cabbage, carrots and cauliflower cheese. We had the beef and chicken. Extra gravy boat. Desserts were tasty. We were spoilt for choice.

We have often passed the pub always promising ourselves we would call in. Sunday we did and had lunch which was nice and a good portion for the price. Everyone was helpful and friendly the pub was clean and traditional. I definitely recommend it and will have a beer next time we call.

We visited on a Thursday in the middle of the month. The pub was relatively busy with people having a drink. There was a lovely real fire burning, and whilst I didn't feel welcomed, I didn't feel unwelcome either. Parking is on the road in front or in the car park up a steep slope to the rear of the building. We ordered the steak pie - which was delicious, though it IS a topper which was a little disappointing. The chips were hand cut and possibly the best I have had in a very long time. The Caramel cheesecake was tasty and my OH devoured the apple pie that was drowning in custard. The pie did look a little soggy (microwaved) but the flavours were there. Service was good - served and left to eat as I like it!

we arrived 1:15pm on thursday, not many customers. the meals were value for money. the steak and kidney pudding and catch of the day (haddock) were good. the lamb tagine may be spice for some people. the special starter belly pork in teriyaki sauce was OK, it would be better with more pieces of belly pork.

Great pub with a variety of ales to try. The views outside are outstanding, they face towards Cawthorn and Barnsley in the distance. Worth visiting to drink in the scenery.
