At the end of October, four of us went to the Strafford Arms for the first time for their Viva Mexico themed night where we were promised Mexican Small Plates, Mexican Cocktails and live music with a mixture of English & Spanish songs. The food was exceptional with decent portion sizes (small plates definitely weren’t small! – just how we like them lol), the drinks were lovely (and flowing easily), the live music was heavily English biased but was still nice to have (although a little loud for some). We enjoyed; PULLED LIME & TEQUILA CHICKEN (GF) £9 – this was our favourite dish in terms of flavour, could have eaten another plate of this! FULLY LOADED NACHO FRIES (GF) £10 – another fave of ours, wow what a bowlful! Really enjoyed how much was on this plate, definitely filled us up. Didn’t spot the chips underneath all the nachos and toppings at first haha. SHREDDED LAMB SHOULDER EMPANADA, CHILLI SALSA £12 – a nice portion and spicy salsa was good, would have liked a little more filling? CHORIZO, BLACK BEAN & CORN SALSA £8 – a nice, refreshing dish Traditional Margaritas – strong & salty 😄 It was great to see many gluten free options. The service was really good, staff were friendly and food service was speedy. A lovely evening. had by all It was the first time we’d been to this cosy, country pub and I would return to try more of their food.

Me and a friend went for the Wonka Afternoon Tea, the pub itself is so cosy with the fire going, you can see the chef working away up at the top, just a lovely pub all clean and the staff were fab, will be going back very soon

The decor is busy but fascinating. The food Incredible. I had a beef burger, and the bacon was honestly overdone, but it didn't matter as it was still amazingly tasty, with such a lively bacon flavour. My wife had the lamb and couldn't stop professing her admiration of the flavours. Skip the parmesan chips, the normal fries are just as tasty The lemon posset however should not be missed, again, wonderful flavours and with the most amazing, pleasantly soft shortbread!

This was a we’ll need pint break after walking the grounds! Such lovely creatures that greeted me with smiles! The pub is so beautiful and has all sorts of events taking place! Live bands the last Friday and you might catch a wedding! The outdoor seating is phenomenal on a sunny day!

Beautiful afternoon tea. The only improvement could have been maybe a couple more savory sandwiches.

Absolutely fantastic, the afternoon tea was amazing! Very unique, love the quirkiness of the miniature picnic bench. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Very organised and overall spot on. The fish and wedges were cooked to perfection aswell as the mini chicken burger. The selection of desserts is great as everyone likes different ones. The scone and the mini cheesecake were the best 👌 thank you I'll be visiting again x

Eat here quite a bit, enjoy it 9 times out of ten. Went for Sunday dinner today, I won't be doing that again. Tiny portion of meat, Bland gravy and poor mash *which is an extra charge as a side. Dare I say it I'd rather a Toby carvery Sunday lunch. The pub being so nice is relied on to make up for a few faults here, always thought the same..

Only went in for a drinks and kids meal. The place inside is lovely and the staff were all super great! One lady was doing peek a boo to keep my unhappy toddler smiling. Amazing customer service! Thank you😊

4th Visit… Decided to try the Lobster, was perfect and accompanied by Parmesan fries which completed the dish! (Photo added) 1st Visit… Fabulous food in a lovely setting with nice friendly staff! We had the sharing Tomahawk steak and were blown away by the meal, it was PERFECT!We turned up hungry and as there is a 40 min wait for that we ordered deserts first! Random, but worked a treat! 👍🏻

Always a lovely atmosphere but vegan options are sometimes hit a miss, risotto was very salty. My partners pie was lovely though and the chips were amazing.

Had King's themed afternoon tea. The portions were very generous and there was a good range of food, which was well presented. The bread on the sandwiches was a little bit stale, hence 4 not 5 stars. Would go back again to try a different theme, as it changes monthly!

Lovely pub out in the Barnsley country side. A very popular pub and so would recommend. Had cod loins which was really tasty. A nice atmosphere as it was busy and so could see it was a popular eating place. Varied menu. The afternoon teas looked a popular choice.definitely recommend. Need to book as saw quite a few people turned away.
