Starters are well priced and gorgeous to eat, mains are slightly pricey for the quality but overall lovely atmosphere, Kerr/lly also provided quality service during my experience
very good food, I sincerely recommend it, clean, tasty, family friendly. I will definitely come back here 😎
Great Restaurant/Bar, good selection of wine and spirits, plenty of free parking, open fire places, vintage interior, friendly staff, delightful atmosphere
Lovely food in an old pub. Bigger than it initially looks, always a busy place, but usually enough space to spread out guests. Lots of families and groups.
The entrance is hard to get out of when they have queues for tables, filling all the entrance space, it could do with opening another exit or more effective way of managing the queue to let people get out without struggling.
Ah, the Gate. We've revisited this gastro pub many times and it never fails to impress. It's a shame that many locals are aware of its excellence, as it can get very busy and parking can require some creative driving or parking across the road. However, once you manage to secure a spot and make your way inside, the welcoming atmosphere will make you forget all about the parking struggles.
The service is always top-notch, even on the busiest of nights or weekends. The staff are friendly and efficient, and they go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. The menu may not vary greatly over the years, but that's because they've already perfected it. Each dish is consistently good, from the classic fish and chips that are always spot on, to the generous and tasty steak and ale pie. They simply keep a high standard year after year and never fail to deliver.
Overall, the Gate is a fantastic gastro pub that we keep returning to for a reason. Despite the parking challenges and the crowds, we know that once we're inside, we'll be treated to great food and excellent service. It's a must-visit for anyone in the area, and we'll definitely be back again soon.
The food is delicious, good drinks, the staff is nice and they have a beautiful garden and the terrace is open ! 5⭐️
This pub was very busy on Sunday afternoon. We only had a couple of half pints. They managed to provide good service and we didn't have to chase them to settle up. OK selection of beers, but not many craft beers. Not a complaint, just a note that it isn't a destination for craft beer lovers.
Great food. Reasonable price and a car park is a must as this is very popular. Classic pub food. Efficient service, will go back.
Returned in summer and the garden was a delighted, really not disappointed, one of my favourite 🤩
Good food and value for money. Always very busy so can't book. Car park always full but useful overflow opposite
Been any times. Excellent service and awesome food. Best fish & chips in the area, nice moist flavoursome chicken kebabs, lovely ribs and lamb shanks and nice kids meals. They also get their ice cream from Lewis of London, which is the best ice cream going.
This is the first time we have been to The Gate in many years, and we were pleasantly surprised.
The garden/patio has had a complete makeover, and is great for winter or summer.
The food and service were brilliant, and not rip off prices.
We will certainly return.
Enjoyed a tasty late lunch at The Gate with a choice of the tables dotted around the many delightfully warm open fires and log burning stoves. The welcome was as warm as the burning fires as was the surprisingly spicy Cajun chicken burger!
Despite being sat in the end closest to the busy road; we couldn’t hear the traffic at all and really enjoyed watching the endless stupidity of many drivers through the sash window as we enjoyed our lunch.
The pub doesn’t take bookings at all and given the carpark is always so full and chaotic it has always put us off visiting, but a break in the chaos gave us the opportunity see why it is always so manic; The delicious meals, the toasty fires, friendly team and fair pricing. There is an abundance of tables to choose from with a mix of smaller ‘rooms’ and larger areas like the conservatory. As it happens there is more parking available nearby that perhaps isn’t such a war zone!
I would call this place a restaurant and not a pub- table service only. The menu has a good selection of options, including appealing specials. The service is prompt and friendly. The main area felt quite warm in terms of ambiance. We sat in the enclosed patio as we had dogs with us. The beer garden looked great but unfortunately it was raining so we could not try it out. The food was good but nothing to make effort to experience (the pie was good but the veggies on the side were mushy. The chicken tortilla was good but the salad on the side was blah). I would suggest this as a great option for a family group to enjoy a nice meal.
Food well worth any wait and the cost.
We have waited up to 30 minutes previously for a table. The outdoor area is lovely and the heaters what seem small do feel nice but i dont think they would be half as good if we were not sat close to them.
Service is usually warm and welcoming with any issues immediately rectified.
I thoroughly look forward to a roast from here that doesn't involve me prepping, cooking or doing the washing up, I just wished they done a take away for work the following day!
Came here for a Sunday lunch. There was a queue and had to wait 25 minutes so grabbed drinks from the bar. The place is nicely decorated and cosy. Car park is tiny though so had to find off road parking and walk. Food was great, loved the minted lamb and gravy! Customer service was slow, maybe not enough waiters for the amount of people - however they were friendly.
Lovely experience. Tasty food. Smiley staff. Thanks
Great local go-to with delicious pub classics in generous portions. Only drawback is no booking and a small car park that gets busy at peak times. Lovely staff and great service.
