Excellent French Bistro atmosphere with genuine really good French cooking. Well worth a visit!
Fantastic authentic French restaurant. Have enjoyed every meal here
Probably more French than the French restaurants we visited around Roquefort-les-Pins this Summer. The French onion soup smelt wonderful but wasn't quite as good as it promised. The whole sea bream on the bone was delicious as were the accompanying sides. The house wine was one of the best I've had in a long time and didn't make me wish I'd had something else instead. The crepe was also excellent and liberally doused with brandy. It's not cheap but it was good value and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The only disappointment was that Rene didn't pop out from behind the bar to sneak off with Yvette.
Entering Chez Ton-Ton is like stepping into another world! Hidden away in furthest Barnet is this charming French restaurant lovingly presented and cared for by a real French couple. We enjoyed our experience as a whole, although perhaps we found the food lacking a little... ow you zay... "I do not know".... .
I chose the duck fois gras served with figs. The fois gras has a lovely creamy flavour and texture and the figs provided a sharp counterpoint without overpowering the subtle duck flavour. Duck can be a strong and greasy meat so this was an interesting idea. I liked the salad includes cress which tarted the whole dish up nicely. My companion enjoyed a parsnip and leek soup, but despite the excellent flavours she found this a little heavy for a starter.
The lamb main was thoroughly satisfying. The lamb, cooked with bacon, was perfectly done, not too dry nor underdone. I like lamb and I like bacon and I enjoyed the robust combination, but perhaps putting them together skews the dish a little to the oily side. My preference for meats is crispy on the outside and served with bright sauce or side. I enjoyed the mash being mixed with herbs.
My girlfriend is a vegetarian, and opted for a winter veg risotto, a similar dish to another French restaurant, reviewed previously, but far superior. Beautifully presented with a crisp salad.
We did not opt for desert, having no more apetite.
The service was friendly, attentive and very authentic.
Really nice food, we had the set menu. It was great value for money, the staff were friendly.
I would recommend this place for lunch and would go back
Exquisite service and wonderful food that will leave you wanting more despite the generous portions. I have been frequenting this restaurant for years and the standard has only risen. A homely atmosphere so more suited for intimate encounters than business meetings.
Lovely little traditional French restaurant , the calfs liver in garlic butter was superb. Highly recommended.
Nice authentic French food . Very cozy and great customer service .
A delightful find in East Barnet. The food was both tastefully cooked and beautifully presented in an authentic French bistro atmosphere. Service was very good despite a busy Wednesday evening and the owner added that personal touch often missing in restaurants these days. We had the set menu which although limited offered a meat, fish and vegetarian option. I would recommend without hesitation.
A little bit of true France in Barnet. The food here is excellent and like many restaurants during Covid they are doing the best they can. The menu has not been compromised and is as good as ever. It is not cheap but I still believe well worth the money. Staff are great and the owner and his wife are a great couple.
Went for dinner with my wife. Both of us came back stuffed and impressed. Food was great - garlic bites were simple but tasty to start with. What we ate was cooked very well and tasted great. Something very different for the area and great service too. Cosy interior, bit tight but does give a good French vibe
Great little restaurant with a warm welcome. Traditional French food beautifully cooked and attentively served. The prices are agreeable, as well. I shall definitely be back, even though I live an hour's drive away!
Hadn’t been here for such a long time but a friend visited and reminded me of what a great restaurant it is so decided to visit for our daughter’s birthday - we weren’t disappointed as it was as good as ever. Fantastic, attentive and personal service from the charming owner Eric and his lovely, young assistant. Relaxed but time appropriate service of really delicious, authentic French food, served with a very French ambience. Highly recommended.
Being a vegetarian, French food isn't my first choice. However, the soups have a vegetarian stock and there were other choices too. The meal wasn't just a meal, it was an experience. Staff were friendly and amazingly helpful and attentive, the restaurant was packed and the wine was superb. Two happy customers.
