Staff were beyond friendly and welcoming..especially the bar lass..so helpful!! Lovely food that was reasonably priced and our Thor was made to feel like a king!! Lovely features like beer garden and pool table..Thanks so much..we will definately be back!! Xxx
Lovely little pub. Staff really friendly.
Food was terrible. I ordered hunters chicken with chips. This tiny piece of frozen chicken with no BBQ sauce on and cheese it tasted the same as it looked terrible. The onion rings were that well cooked that they just fell to bits so you couldn't pick them up. The portion size was rediculous for the price. Sorry but won't be having food in there again.
Great pub and food. I visited a couple of Sundays ago for the tradition Sunday lunch whilst on holiday.
Myself and my husband really enjoyed our meals. The veg was lovely and fresh, my chicken was very tender and my husband’s beef was beautifully cooked.
We visited in the middle of the afternoon, it was quite busy. I was shocked and appalled to see the way some customers were speaking to the bar staff.
All the best. We’ll be back.
The new landlady was very welcoming and friendly, the food was great and we were given a lovely cosy little spot near the open fire to eat our food which was nice. We will definitely visit again when we're up that way.
Lovely cosy wee pub with friendly staff. Food was great. would recommend. Dog friendly too which meant I got to meet loads of pups!
Excellent pub with fab food and even better service, Lindsey was great! Made me feel welcome for the 4 days I was here! Cracking pub and fab beer! I will be returning
Spent a couple of hours in the beer garden with the dogs in the sunshine. Enjoyed the beers & the sun, didn't order any food as the waiting times were quite shocking. We saw a couple on the table beside us wait for over an hour and when the asked how much longer they were asked "what did you order?"
Obviously room for improvement in the kitchen.
Fabulous couple running this little old pub , very friendly fantastic fresh cooked food , ( nothing frozen ) friendly atmosphere, great beer garden in a sun trap, you must not pass this pub it’s worth a visit, it says on the website that it’s a Wetherspoons but it’s not but you won’t be disappointed, Julie & Andy the inn keepers are great
Lovely, welcoming dog friendly pub. The food was lovely and so was the fire!
Ordered the cowboy burger and felt like I was in the 1600's lassowing an outlaw. Would definitely recommend, great service and kitchen staff were exceptional.
Great food, great service, very friendly staff. Quick and reasonably priced food and drinks.
Highly recommended
Discovered this traditional inn while on a first time sightseeing trip to Barnard Castle. It's ideally located in the marketplace (a parking area when it's not a market day). The inn dates from the 17th century and was apparently built into the castle ditch, which probably explains its quirky layout and why the floor slopes downward from the street entrance! There's a beer garden at the back with a view of the castle. Clean downstairs toilets. Decor is unpretentious, old-world and homely, with a very old fireplace in the front room. Did not have a lot of time, but luckily the pub was fairly quiet and the young lady behind the bar was not only friendly, she was also very helpful. She said she would tell the chef to be quick with my order, and I consequently did not have to wait long for my lunch. They serve the usual classic pub meals, burgers and grills, but I opted for a lighter option of jacket potato with prawns in marie rose sauce, served with a crispy salad. The potato was well cooked and hot, and the prawns were large and tasty. Had a glass of good rose wine to go with my lunch. At just over £11 the meal was not only satisfying but also good value for money.
