A really nice refuelling stop after a nice walk around the castle. It was empty (a late Sunday afternoon) and the waiter was excellent. Excellent burger with delicious fries. The decor, as you'd expect from the name, is a bit mad!
So glad I accidentally came across this quaint cafe while passing through! The staff were very friendly and the service for ice creams was fast. The decor was spot on. The menu was reasonably priced. I wouldn't hesitate to go back!
We went twice on our recent visit to Barnard Castle nice place and dig friendly. Didn't have 3 of the GF items I asked for from the menu though , however the food I had was lovely
Went In to shelter from the rain, lovely little tea room with home made cakes and scones. Staff were friendly and efficient.
Very freindly staff and very reasonably priced with good quality cakes and bakes, their dog freindly too with drinking water for them aswell as a couple of free buscuits too.As the name suggests its Alice in wonderland themed inside. All in All a great little cafe and we will return.
This place is a down-to-earth, genuine cafe. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and happy to have a laugh with their customers, especially in quiet times. The Alice in Wonderland theme runs throughout the decor, although not on the menu.
The food is standard fare: beans on toast, full English, etc. Despite this, the food is excellently cooked and generously portioned. The pricing is reasonable so that you feel that you have had a decent feed at a good price. One suggestion I would make is to describe the contents of some of the menu so customers know what they are getting, particularly the vegetarian breakfast, for example.
The vegetarian breakfast was well cooked and decently proportioned (which makes a nice change). The eggs had amazing large yolks, plenty of beans and a sausage I've never had before.
Went for a nice stroll around the castle at Barnard's Castle. This place is literally just around the corner and a lovely little gem of a place. Staff are extremely polite and the food was gorgeous. Tried the eggs benedict, which had a lovely slab of ham and perfectly poached eggs. Definitely recommend
First visit 22nd January 2019
Tempted in by the beautiful looking cakes in the window, not disappointed...
Jacket Potato with Pulled Pork, delicious.
Eggs Benedict, delicious.
Salted Caramel Cake , delicious
Frangipan Cake, fabulous.....
Finished off with excellent coffee.
Enjoyed the food and the chat with the owner was great too.
Thank you.
I really love the decor and themed parts as I am a big Alice in Wonderland fan. Friendly staff and they were helpful. The fried egg was a little under done and had lots of excess oil. Such a good place for a cuppa. Reasonably priced too.
Looking for somewhere that served Sunday lunch and came upon this place. Really glad that we did. Roast dinner was fabulous. All home cooked to order with huge Yorkshire's and loads of veg.
Will definitely try Hatter's on another visit
We had an excellent lunch at the Mad Hatter's Tea Room; great service and delicious food. The chicken gyros and fish chowder were both superb, full of flavour and something a little different to the run of the mill choices on offer elsewhere.
Friendly welcome tea room just taken over by new and experienced chef. Lovely scone and tasty coffee so and we decided to return - good choice. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and eggs florentine beautifully cooked and served. Good luck with your future plans and thanks for sending us on our way with a delicious brunch.
Generally a great place for a full english. This morning however, not quite up to scratch and the half a slice of black pudding looked mean especially as I requested no mushrooms. However, the extra toast probably came free and the Chef who was covering front of house also, was friendly and enthusiastic.
