Stayed in Room 1. Good size room, with a great view of the church to the front of the building. En-suite was nice, but the shower was in need of a little TLC (nothing big, just the tub to the shower head was falling apart). Breakfast was very nice and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We would stay again.
I stayed at the Crown and Mitre in July 2014 with my border collie, Meg. The Inn is totally dog-friendly and our room was clean, comfortable and welcoming. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The steak pie dinner is to die for but you'll need a big appetite to finish the 'large' portion! Great range of beers to enjoy after a day on the fells and the breakfast was excellent as well. Just need to find an excuse to get down there and stay again.
We had a group of 8 and enjoyed our stay. The restaurant was cozy and the food was good. They were short staffed the day we were there but we were not in a hurry. Rooms were comfortable with good beds. Most rooms had enough room for our luggage etc.
Situated in a quaint small hamlet, this Inn is the hub of village life. We went for a meal on Saturday night and luckily I had the intuition to book a table. The staff were welcoming and thoughtful, made sure we had a table with a large enough area for our dog to stretch out. Seasonal menu, delicious local produce. Well worth straying from the tourist track
Stayed here Jan 2014 been wanting to visit for about 3 years but I am a saddo that needs wireless in the room and previously they were honest enough to tell me they only had it in the bar (Unlike some hotels that mislead you) so I was delighted when I called and literally the day before all the rooms had been fitted with WiFi and yup it worked great.
I was not disappointed, the room was great (Room 3) nice comfy bed and a great big bath with lashings of hot water and the radiators were red hot.
The bar is fantastic nice log fire burning and there is a great selection of traditional beers, although I chose the Peroni which was excellent. The food was really really good the Steak Pie is just mental but, above all this was not only the staff but the locals were fantastic company and I spent a great Saturday evening getting bladdered at the bar with them (well I was bladdered they might not have been)
It was my first trip to Haweswater and it's a hidden gem and this place represents amazing value for money. Oh and as for the reviewer that said you had to pre order breakfast what rubbish, breakfast is freshly cooked and delicious, you can order what you want so no idea what they are on about....
I will certainly make an effort to revisit the Crown & Mitre that's for sure
Thanks for a great couple of days !
This is a nice small Inn. We both had a really comfortable night, not to mention that the food was amazing. I had an amazing steak that was cooked to perfection. I would definitely stay here next time we are in the lakes.
We've had a Lovely stay this weekend. The only thing that I would say is that top floor bedrooms could do with blinds on the velux windows.
Fabulous welcome, very comfy beds (we had 2 rooms), great food and a roaring fire. What more could you want? And reasonable costs!
Great place, cosy bar, room and bedding spotless.
Ignore the whinging on Trip advisor about the church bells as they are not as loud as described and are a nice reminder of village life 👍🤗🙂
Come and enjoy👍👍👍
Fabulous food well kept ale,and friendly service,we didn't stay but ate 3 times in a week
Loved this pub, arrived wet and weary to warm hospitality, cosy rooms, best venison burger I have ever had and great beer. Highly recommended.
Great little Gem. Operates as a B&B but open to the public in the evenings for drinks and food. Lovely decor, friendly staff (India) and very helpful.
We stayed here on our Coast to Coast walk. Very comfortable rooms and very helpful and welcoming staff. Very nice dinner and breakfast. Thoroughly recommended!
