In Balsham to look at some family history and came in for lunch. Wonderful food. Fish and chips was big and crunchy, duck with hazelnuts, apricots and broccoli was so flavorful and the Black Bull burgers were so tasty with amazing sauces and bun. Will have to come back in the future and try new things and some deserts!

We are very lucky to have a pub so close to us that consistently delivers delicious food. We love not just the food, but the atmosphere and especially like the fact the menu changes (and every time it is very tasty). We look forward to visiting again!

Excellent food and friendly staff..Menu just a bit different from the normal and really outstanding quality .. We stayed overnight and the rooms were very good ,nice decor ,clean and warm!. Would definitely stay again and strongly recommend.. Originally visiting the vineyard nearby which closed after we had booked here but it’s also very close to Duxford so visited there instead..

This was the most amazing place to spend a valentines meal. Exceptional Scallops with bacon, parsnip and black pudding, sensational seafood linguini, and an exquisite passionfruit and mango mess to finish. Excellent wine and ale, and a brilliant vanilla spiced rum to finish. The chef was super friendly, the staff professional yet relaxed. Honestly, a wonderful country Inn for food and drink.

My partner and I haven't stayed in the rooms yet but we are now regular customers who make a point of dropping in from the neighbouring village when we can to have a bite to eat a few drinks. The food is absolutely fantastic and the drinks are top quality. Aside from the food, drinks and impressive historic atmosphere of the pub itself, the staff are a wonderful bunch who go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. By far one of the best, if not THE best, pubs we've ever had the pleasure of discovering.

a solid village pub I've been coming to on and off for 30 years. Has had its share of ups and downs. Went for lunch with my parents and kids last Sunday. Positives: roast was generous and everything cooked well; extra gravy forthcoming when asked; beer good. Less positives: my kid's fish and chips arrived about 10 mins before the other meals, meaning she'd more or less finished when ours arrived; the puddings we're very lacklustre - a small square of not-great sticky toffee pudding and ice cream for £7.50; and the toilets are cold and damp. Needs a bit more thought and care to be a truly great pub.

Just had a one night stay to catch up with friends, lovely meal in the restaurant and really well looked after by Luke who is a credit to the place. Great nights sleep in a very comfortable room followed by a delicious breakfast this morning. Highly recommend this little gem.

A lovely pub in a pretty village near Newmarket. Food is excellent & the staff are friendly & efficient. The pub itself is very cosy. The rooms are well furnished, in an annexe. They aren't very sound proof if there are other guests. It would be good to light the entrance better.

This pub / restaurant is housed in a lovely rambling old building and upon entering the welcome is equally inviting. The atmosphere is warm and the whole place is comfortably furnished. The roasts on Sundays are well cooked and presented and come in ample portions. All these factors, coupled with prompt and friendly service, go to make a popular place so ideally I'd book ahead in future. That said, as passers-by on this occasion, we were fortunate to find they had a table free for us. Overall, a pleasing and satisfying visit.

I traveled from liverpool and have found this gem! I will always come back to the Black Bull Inn. I have come here a few times now , and stayed in their rooms. Everytime I come I am surprised by how great the rooms are and the staff, the rooms are spacious and very welcoming, heating is great and my room was never cold , it was nice and toasty. They are very friendly and helpful and the food is excellent at the Black Bull .

Having just moved to the village, our daughter, her boyfriend and another friend from St Albans, came to celebrate and see our new home. We booked into the Black Bull, having heard rave reviews, for Saturday evening. It was absolutely brilliant. The pub has a lovely, warm feeling about it. The staff were friendly, attentive and the service was spot on.The food was exceptional- the menu had a good mix of dishes, and we were delighted. The fact that it is a short walk from our new home is perfect!! We enjoyed our evening immensely and am sure will be repeating the visit.

Wonderful food, far exceeding our expectations of typical pub grub when we scanned the menu. The current chef arrived last year according to our very well-informed waiter, so take that into account if you see older reviews. He's clearly very skilled. The perfectly cooked and clearly well-sourced steak was impressive but the banana souffle special we had after it, in particular, was genuinely high end cooking. An intriguing and well-balanced wine list too. With enough local support when restrictions end this could well become an outstanding gastro pub of the sort you can't easily get a table at. Get in early!

A pretty thatched building with oak beams. Very good Sunday lunch menu, food was excellent, staff friendly and helpful, prices fair. A good sized car park and the location is about 5 to 10 minutes off the A11. Well worth a small diversion.
